Thank you for doing this! Did you use timing charts while you were working on Klaus?
@alfredocassano3194
@alfredocassano3194 Год назад
Hi Joshua, yes. Timing charts are important for the animator as both "note to self" to describe what's happening between drawings, and also for the following department where the "gaps" are filled.

The idea of drawing just the circles to find a good timing for the character first thing is literally a life saver!! ive redone several frames a lot just to get timing down pat lol What software is this being shown in?
@alfredocassano3194
@alfredocassano3194 Год назад
that's right. There is a phase in which you only want to focus on motion, on the "choreography" of moving things. Then, on top of that, you can do a new pass thinking about the drawings, of course keeping into account how the motion will affect them.

Question: why did you decide to change the last pose in your animation from what was in the storyboard? would love to hear your thought process about why that pose wasn't as effective. Thanks :)
@alfredocassano3194
@alfredocassano3194 Год назад
Hey Eileen!! Great to find you here, hope you are doing well :) the last pose in the board was great too, but there are millions of ways to convey emotions and feelings and I felt I needed to try something different. One can as well stick to the board, but unless the director clearly specifies that a pose needs to stay, animators are free to reinterpret the boards if the change goes in the right direction. What is the right direction? That is always a bet, that's why we show a rough first.

@@alfredocassano3194 cool that makes sense! I'm doing well thanks and hope you are too!

Just an insight but: Sometimes in storyboards, poses work more as visual shorthand than they make a natural pose. Espicially once you see the movement. This is because acting choices should showcase some real thought from the character. Are they making a choice because the board demands it, or because the CHARACTER would be thinking it? This applies to subtle choices like Eye direction, blinking, finger movement, and head sway. Other than that though, Sometimes different artists have a different vision for how a character may act in a certain scenario. A storyboard artist for example may have one set of ideas in mind, whereas the animator moving between poses may feel something different might work just as well or better. Obviously different ideas and changes are communicated beforehand. I love your work Mr. Cassano. Was very very informative to see your process.
