I am rather amused by the fact that this is one of the most beautiful interpretations of this aria ever, and the public reacts as if they were hibernating.
@@mariovicente I'm not sure. They look like they are clapping for a cute child who just came up onstage and sang a little ditty. Their faces are absolutely expressionless and cold. But, well... it IS Germany.
What truly amazes me in this video is how calmly he stood there while delivering this earth shattering performance, breathing in ever so quietly that nobody could even notice, then breathing out his glittering silvery voice in perfect technique and sublime phrasing. His performance here is so beautiful one can hardly believe it. Thank goodness someone recorded it.
O nuit enchanteresse! Divin ravissement! O souvenir charmant! Folle ivresse! doux rêve! Charmant souvenir! Charmant souvenir!
Rodrigo here is the beginning of the aria .- here it goes: À cette voix quel trouble agitait tout mon être? Quel fol espoir? Comment ai-je cru reconnaître? Hélas! devant mes yeux déjà, pauvre insensé, La même vision tant de fois a passé! Greetings from Lima, Peru - Aug 4, 2019
The best interpretation of this aria I know. Many thanks to GreekCallas for posting it! Unfortunately, it seems that this excellent record on RU-vid has been truncated from its start. Posting it again would be a great thing to do, if I may suggest.
HERMOSA VOZ . GRACIAS .
The best interpretation ever of this aria (except for his own interpretation in Gayarre which I even prefer although sung in Italian language there). Due to his perfect technique, Kraus (unlike Gigli, Simoneau or others) is not forced to use falsetto technique but is able to use his breast voice even at the top notes, which renders the sound of the aria more natural and more male although at the same time sensitive and empathetic in sound and style. This is therefore the landmark interpretation for this aria! And this was a live performance!
By Gayarre you mean this? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q1rTaw3O1wI.html Well, I agree about the voice and interpretation of the music. Glorious, blissful, what to say. Provided you close your eyes. The costume, the belly, the beard, the wooden face... In this video he's lost some weight and looks much more dashing!
@AKS True. The thing with Gigli was that he used mezza voce extensively, call it spirit of that era, and I hear his notes as at the brink of switching to falsetto, but not quite. Falsetto is usually devoid of aliquots and sounds sheer (although I'm aware of skill Jaroussky, Fagiolli, Scholl & co posses and like their baroque arias interpretation)
@AKS I've just listened to Caruso in 1904 singing it, and you can actually hear him breaking into falsetto, but hey, this is Caruso, and it's sang with such emotion and beauty that in the end who cares if it was falsetto. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RUu08iSV35g.html
I’m studying this song for voice juries, and personally I think Lawrence Brownlee’s performance of this is my favorite I’ve heard, but this is a very close second! Alfredo Kraus is absolutely one of the best tenors of all time, no question there!
How difficult. I have heard a really extraordinary French version sung by Alain Vanzo, a perfect diction and a longer tempo than the Kraus version and it is hard for me to decide. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MGmxAHVbijI.html
Coming back to this comment and performance, it is still as great as I remember. This magnificent performance reminds me of when I tried imitating it, truly, truly, amazing!
As a singer I leep coming back to this video. I think it's the perfect rendition of this aria, the best I've seen - Kraus was always brilliant in this aria, but this video is beyond words. It's inspiring and heart-warming. It's also technical perfection. I never heard a better Je Crois, and don't expect to.
Merveilleux ! Bravo !
breathtaking, high notes.. in this aria..Kraus is the best !!!!!!! i'm a tenor and i'm a big fan of Franco Corelli, but after i've seen this video.. both Corelli and Kraus, they are inside my heart.
