Is it possible to purchase separate centrifugal bowls, so it can be replaced and put back in service immediately? That way, the centrifuge can be running, while the bowl is being cleaned, preparatory to replacing again. I'm interested in this, as a way to remove algae from a Koi pond, without having to replace filter media. For what I'm doing, I think the basic 2-pole single phase motor would suffice. Is there a larger, lower speed model that has a larger bowl that you would recommend for my application?

Hi Vincent. Yes, an extra bowl will be $250. Contact me at jason@algaecentrifuge.com for a quote. Thanks!!

Could this work with sugar beets to separate the white sugar 🤔

Unfortunately not. This machine seperates things which have different densities. Sugar dissolved in water is a solution that has the same density throughout. You might think that because the sugar molecules weigh more than water that you’d still be able to seperate them but apparently this is not how such solutions behave (imagine how easy it would be to desalinate water if it was). I suspect it’s got something to do with the chemical bonds between the water and sugar being far stronger than the force of the centrifuge but that’s just my guess. You could perhaps use a centrifuge to separate the liquid from the beets themselves I guess but I can’t see the point unless it’s being used on an industrial scale as a final step to remove every last drop of liquid.

@@charmio You're on the right track. There's a difference between a suspension and a solution. Sugar water is a solution - the sugar and water molecules have formed weak ionic bonds and are completely dispersed at the molecular level. This liquid therefore acts as a single unit, if that makes any sense. A suspension, however, is much larger clumps of particles floating in the water, and they are only kept in suspension because the water has been agitated. They can still be very tiny, sub-micron sized particles, but they are still thousands of times larger than individual molecules. The easiest way to tell if a centrifuge can be used to separate material out of a liquid is if that material would settle out naturally if you left it alone long enough. You can think of a centrifuge as just cranking up the gravity a few hundred times higher than normal - things settle out faster much faster, but they're still just settling out of the suspension. That's why it works on oil in a WVO setup - the oil, water, and particulate matter left over from use as fry oil would eventually separate out on their own if you left them sit long enough. Putting them through a centrifuge just speeds up the natural settling process.
