There's one big issue with Algae/Kelp - they're absurdly expensive to buy. I tried it a while a go, it was good, but... until prices go waaaay down it won't get into our diets.

Another amazing, very informative and entertaining video! You did great work with the intro, camera angles (very personal storytelling on site) and I'm excited about the Spirulina video as well! Less methan production within cows, sounds very promising when using algae. Great to see Jonas in your videos again :) And I think it's also important that you mentioned the importance of moderation.

@elinope4745
@elinope4745 2 года назад
There is a type of red seaweed that reduces methane emissions by cows by over 90 percent. This market would be huge in the US but is being held up legally here by a group of animal activists. Foreign companies could benefit greatly by selling red seaweed to cattle farmers in order to reduce methane emissions. Unfortunately, there are people who do not want beef to be legally or economically available for religious and political reasons. Morally dogmatic people believe they have the right to force their beliefs on you.

Fascinating, I was recently watching a doc about this in more northern territories (Canada or Washington) but got thinking about when it scales would you not have a similar situation as you have with rapeseed crops? Overproducing one type of crop in the water might (adversely) affect the habitat for certain aquatic life above/below the surface?

One concern I have about farming algae is that any time we start adding infrastructure to the ocean, we run the risk of having a negative impact on the species that exist in that environment. My first thought when I saw the horizontal matrix of lines in the water was the possibility of entailment with large mammals such as whales, porpoises, or pinnipeds. I also worry about the impact of equipment and machines associated with large scale farming. The images of the Chinese farms are horrifying.
@tylerrobbins8311

At yes farming the ocean 🥰 now if we could just conserve and restore the whale population would be nice. Lot of space to farm whales on top of algae benefits from their waste. It would be awesome we could grow such massive kelp forest that could feed the world over.
@jacobkudrowich
@jacobkudrowich 2 года назад
I didn't know humans could restore whale populations. I thought whales had to you know, give birth to other whales.
@tylerrobbins8311
@tylerrobbins8311 2 года назад
@@jacobkudrowich Hence the farming, it would cost a bit of money but it's only fair we fix the whale population. It's us man's fault the oceans are mainly desert and then atmosphere is becoming more carbon than oxygen. If we fix the whale issue the algae will come back and then entire planet well become more healthy. That amd seaweed salads are criminally underrated 😋
@jacobkudrowich
@jacobkudrowich 2 года назад
@@tylerrobbins8311 farming whales is perhaps the dumbest and most improbable idea i have ever heard. First off whales have a gestation period of 10-14 months. They give birth to one calf and cannot have another for 3 to 4 years. They naturally roam vast distances so being able to control where they go is impossible unless you shamu them. We cannot control whale births because they arent domesticated. Instead of farming whales how about we just leave them alone? Id love to hear your ludicrous thoughts on how this whale farm would work and how it would at all help whales?

I would really love to watch your in-video ads all the way to the end just to support you because I understand you need to make a living. I just feel that they are slightly too long for my short attention span. I often appreciate ads that are 10-15 seconds long.. Those I will watch all the way to the end without skipping them to support creators. Maybe rather try to split your ads up? 10 seconds somewhere in the beginning and then another 10-20 seconds at the end for those truly interested in the sponsor? Otherwise thank you for all the work you have been doing and all the great videos! I imagine it is a lot of work to make these videos and probably really difficult to come up with new content. Your channel is one of those top tier channels when it comes to quality. Well done and thank you!

Just need to make sure we put all that biomass back into the water cleanly. If we eat it, our waste (including our bodies!) needs to be put back where we got it from otherwise it will lead to more depletion of a natural environment. Nutrients have to cycle.

5.24 “Its about 30% protein in this…” Nordic seafarer (where the show is filmed)says its X?variety of seaweed is less than 2% protein. Nori Seaweed Powder might be about 40% protein.
