How do I make one of these? Is the one we saw in the video really 5Kw? How long did it have to run to separate that much oil?

My conclusion, after years of trials and errors, is that the concept is sound, and many trials have produced oil from algae, but the leap in production lies with biology. The one who genetically manipulates the chlorella cell from microscopic to grape size, will become very rich.

@ticklemegangrene That's not correct either, remember ultrasonic, meaning sound, which means he is using a 4KW rating of soundwaves. Think a 4000watt power amplifier. Using the barbell however amplifies the smaller signal by vibrations, since we don't know the actual frequency... the higher the frequency the less power needed. So 4000watts at 4000Mhz frequence is different than 4000watts at 60hz (regular US Power) in consumption of input power.

@datzfast I would assume that the virus might decrease the quantity of the lipids, since that's what viruses do: they take over the cell machinery.

wouldnt the thermal de-polymerization have worked better for something like this on a large scale?they are doing it with trash and plastics why not with algae?

Pyrolysis is a great technology as well ! This is more specifically for extracting the plant oil (similar to soybean, or rapeseed oil). This can be used to make bio-diesel, which is an easy, commercially viable pathway. Pyrolysis oil requires refining (unless burned in a "waste oil burner" style setup), and is usually quite corrosive. As you said though, pyrolysis can work with non-recycled plastic, and other trash (Refuse Derived Fuel or RDF). the energy used to extract the algae is more than the produced oil energy from algae.

Hello, I am researching the use of sustainable algae and the creation of biofuel. Does this method of biomass extraction harm the algal cells in any way? As in, rupturing the cells or bursting the lipids?

+Kevin Matos Yes, it lyses (disrupts) the cells in order to wash the lipids out. It does not damage the lipids themselves.

Hi Mr. Pyramid. I see you made a question 5 years ago, but was without answer. Well you have to make a sterification process with the extracted oil to make bio diesel and make the extracted material usable. Look for bio dieses production.

@datzfast so where did you get your Electrical Engineering degree? its 4000 watts / hour.. The average cost of electricity is .09 to .14 cents per 1000 watts an hour. So yea..you should probably learn more before making ill-informed comments. We need information in this world, not MISinformation. If we want misinformation, we can just watch fox.
