As an adult who is mathematically illiterate, I am fortunate indeed for people like yourself who have taken the time to share your knowledge with us online. It is appreciated very much!
8yerbrain Freaking dang straight. Not everybody can learn math well. Heck 4 out of 3 people suck at math...see what I did there lol ;) but for real, I floated through high school and graduated. Never could learn math well. These videos have helped me more in the past 30 minutes of just watching them more than all my years in school till I graduated.
It's 2am. I'm supposed to be studying for my University torts law exam. I haven't studied any maths in 3 years. Idk why I'm here; but I enjoyed the algebra refresher.
I think teaching math is probably harder than teaching other subjects. It's very hard to explain something like algebra that makes sense to a bunch of school kids.
Tried doing my GCSE math at school and failed every time really badly , thought math was just impossible for me . So After I finished my alevels , I really needed math to do anything . So I went to a local college one night a week for 6 months and used this channel to revise and refresh topics I found difficult . So I did the exam again and finally got a C . Don’t know why but at school I found that I learned nothing but a smaller class at the college and help from RU-vid videos made me feel reasonably comfortable and confident when doing the exam . Huge thanks for these kind of videos !
I know im late on this but ... To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles, And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep No more; and by a sleep, to say we end the heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks that Flesh is heir to? 'Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep, To sleep, perchance to Dream; aye, there's the rub, for in that sleep of death, what dreams may come, when we have shuffled off this mortal coil, must give us pause. There's the respect that makes Calamity of so long life: For who would bear the Whips and Scorns of time, the Oppressor's wrong, the proud man's Contumely, [F: poor] the pangs of despised Love, the Law’s delay, [F: disprized] the insolence of Office, and the spurns that patient merit of the unworthy takes, when he himself might his Quietus make with a bare Bodkin? Who would Fardels bear, [F: these Fardels] to grunt and sweat under a weary life, but that the dread of something after death, the undiscovered country, from whose bourn no traveller returns, puzzles the will, and makes us rather bear those ills we have, than fly to others that we know not of. Thus conscience does make cowards of us all, and thus the native hue of Resolution Is sicklied o'er, with the pale cast of Thought, And enterprises of great pitch and moment, [F: pith] with this regard their Currents turn awry, [F: away] And lose the name of Action. Soft you now, The fair Ophelia? Nymph, in thy Orisons Be all my sins remember'd.
"Aside from school work, where is algebra used in a daily life?" (no reply button) In doing many things. Programming and web design uses variables and formulas to parse outputs from a database. Even simple apps you can make will store user data in variables and parsed by the app. The only difference is that in programming, variables have names like "DB_unit_value". Scriptmaking can make your life much easier in the modern age. Understanding the underlying math also makes analyzing statistical data far easier and you'll discover a lot more than what SPSS will normally show you. Engineering uses a lot of it. All the hard sciences also use it extensively. Even the humanities disciplines, such as sociology, now use a lot of formulas in literature. Most high-paying jobs require an extensive math knowledge. Engineer majors are doing far better out of college than a history major. Many people fear the math, so they settle for liberal arts degrees. Learn it now the best you can and it will become easier for you and you won't have to settle later on.
I make programs and games and you don't need algebra. Plus, you said daily. I'm pretty sure normal people don't code or script. So yeah, algebra is useless
Good vid, it has definitly helped me. The only thing i don't is why people like to you the letter "x" it looks so much like the multiplication sign 'x', when learning it can be confusing.
Love these videos, I'm looking at returning to education after 6 years away and I'm shocked at how much basic maths I've managed to forget. Your videos are really helping me refresh myself!
I tried everything to learn this stuff until I found your channel. Thankfully, I graduated community college 2 years ago because of your videos. If it wasn't for your lessons, I would still be stuck in remedial classes. I am so grateful and words cannot express. Thank You ... Thank You ... Thank You !!! You are the King👑
I missed so much from you. How come I never come across your tutorials earlier on? Your tutorials on algebra have been so much helpful since I came across them. I can't praise you much enough. Thank you so much. I am now able to teach algebra to my 7th and 8th Graders with ease. Thanks again.
Your handwriting is so neat and you explained it so well. I've got SATS tomorrow and sometimes algebra is in it. Our teacher refuses to teach algebra and this video really helped. Thank you.
I'm really bad at math and it annoys me, so I just put this on while watching RU-vid with the wife who is quite switched on with math. We both started doing these together. I never understood algebra at school (I was in the second last class at my school..). This is one of the first times I actually understood letters in a numbers world. Thank you! I might look at doing an adult math class I think
Yeah, my teacher has tried for months and I still don't understand her explanation. But I understood the first time I watched this video. They also teach overcomplicated techniques that you're never going to use...
Miss Cakelyn I agree! I believe that the simpler the better and if the teacher makes it with some comical jokes, the lesson becomes very entertaining to learn it and that is how I got my As in my CUNY exam because I had a comical professor that a right amount of balance of jokes and lessons and time for questions and practices on board made it much more easier for me to have learned it after several tries with different professors that as mentioned make it kind of boring and tedious and it's really hard to learn this in that pattern. If algebra is taught with simplicity then everything else would be less complicated. :) Hang in there, ...you too WILL A's YOUR ALGEBRAIC PROBLEMS , TOO :D just don't give up, alright? ;D
Legit just watched an online maths class I’ve gone back to studies to finish my year 12 and literally couldn’t understand the lecturers or the study notes I have I’m not even 5 minutes into this video and you’re making more sense
your videos are brilliant and im in the middle of big exams and your videos are my maths study thank you so much i got a good grade for my christmas exam and i hope to get one for my summer exams.
Chambers1831 right? my teacher took like what? a whole hour to explain this while i learned this in the video in 10 minutes so I don't get why the schools make teachers explain things in like an hour when they could take 10-19 minutes
its great how you go over the examples more than once it gives a better impact on learning. You also show great examples for us to do that not many math channels at all do alll they do is explain what it is this is way better thumbs up
Hello! I am a 6th grader, in which just took a MAP test, a test that you take to show are given to your teachers and the school administrators to: -See where you are (Grade level) -To see if you have learned anything (Usualyy end semester -See if to be held back -To see what you need to improve Now with the background knowledge of the test, I may now ask my question. Now the system gives you *harder questions every time you get a question correct*, and if you get them *wrong, the questions will be easier.* I encountered a question(s) which I believe is algebra: 1: x4/ 3 a cube something x2. (Idek how to pronounce the equation) 2: a+b = b/a+c Please answer my questions! (I already answered these questions, so I just want to have a justification of the answer and why it is the answer)
Good video, but you should of used the Dot for multiplication instead of another x. It gets confusing to look at when you do (6x x x 3 x y) at 10:40 . But like I said good video.
he's not using 3 x's he's using the greek symbol chi for the 6chi x 3chi... observe and learn... a dot is not multiply to distinguish for the ignorant and confused how about a *
I wish I had a teacher like this man when I was a kid... I would have not failed algebra the way I did...Teachers will bit me up for failing the exam, and I was always anxious about failing and to make the story short they always bit me up...I grew up in a third world country...viewing this video everything makes sense, is not as difficult as I though it was. All that biting for nothing...
I haven't done algebra for a long time and I forgot a little bit, only when I meet this question, like this: 8y x 9x, but thanks to you, who gave my memory back, I now remember how to do that type of that equation.
Basic idea of algebra, but very essential ones. Learnt a lot from this video. The way you present the lesson make it looked so easy. The explanation also very smooth and easy to follow. Thank you very much.
Hi , thanks for your video, in a long expression there too many signs of addition and subtraction, how do I figure out whether it's addition or subtraction. Here is an expression I am confused with. 4a-5a+b-2b+2a= Answer I had was: 3a+b In the text book the answer is: a-b Thanks
Fajol Miah For a question like 4a-5a+b-2b+2a, to answer this you group like terms. Don't worry about whether you are adding or subtracting yet, just group like terms...So for (a) we have +4a, -5a, and +2a. Put these together to get 1aFor (b) we have +b and -2b. Put these together to get 1bSo the answer is a + b.
Fajol Miah follow formula: P.E.M.D.A.S. P=Parenthesis, E=Exponent, M=Multiplication, D=Division, A=Addition, S=Subtraction. Whatever order you see it coming first , follow this formula. I hope this works. I actually got 1a -1b.
6th grade class be like things I learnt in school year: who to camp in toilet to skip class in this video: algebra actual algebra not school one like x+1=2 what is x?
Chloe Prior P= 5x - 2y Work out the value of P when x= 3 and y= -4Break it into parts,5x means 5 times x. If x = 3, then 5 x 3 = 152y means 2 times y. If y = -4, then 2 x -4 = -8P= 5x - 2y = 15 - -8 (15 minus negative eight!) = 15 + 8 = 23
I'm sorry you just made it confusing tecmath ;) All you have to do is find p's value. Since P is by itself everything on the right added, subtracted, multiplied, and divided is your answer!
im not even in sixth grade but i just want to get ahead , that's why im watching this vid XD....people in my class say that im a robot because im too ahead ;)
X is any integer. It is used mostly in algebra these letters to understand and solve algebraic math problems. It's made this way to help people use more the mind in solving math. I hope this helps you. God bless you....and don't stop, don't give up in learning algebra. Take it from me....it's very hard at the beginning but once you master the concept of algebra you'll love it so much that all you want to do is algebra math all the time...believe me! It's true...just study as much as you can & soon before you know it you'll know how to do these algebraic expressions in math :) Again, hoping that this advice from me helps you :) GOOD LUCK! :D
This is really helpful I use to watch math antics but sometimes I’ll get confused watching that but this helps because u break everything down in explain it correctly I’m having really bad problems with algebra but this is giving me hope
You cracked it, society´s smartest people have been trying to push the frontier of math for more then 2000 years but you sir, you are above them, you figured out its all for nothing and its just bs,. What a genius!
I think you need to learn algebra at least. It's just a shame they don't teach logic in sub tertiary education. You say you don't need math, you might be right, since there are so many jobs now where you don't have to. But guess what created those jobs, or your phone, or your computer, or electricity, or internet, or your stove, or your microwave, or your car. Pretty much any technological advancement you know. How dare you say math is useless, only someone who is scientifically illiterate would utter those words. Be grateful for people that learned the subject so you can have a comfortable life.
Literally all you need in life is to master percentages, division, multiplication, addition, and subtractions .-. Percentages can be many different things like decimals, fractions, and shopping
This was really helpful and I learned alot in just under 19 minutes while school takes me up to 2 or 3 hours just to learn these kind of topics thanks alot this has helped me understand algebra a bit better.
For those worried about the X symbol, remember that the curly X is the symbol and the straight X that you would find on say for e.g. a keyboard is the variable which is times
