Algerian Women Quit Urban Life To Pioneer Eco-Friendy Farming | Firstpost Africa
In Africa's largest country Algeria, two women are spearheading the shift towards eco-friendly farming. Born in an urban background, 28-year-old Amira Messous and 29-year-old Ibtissem Mahtout, abandoned their lives in the capital Algiers. They are now working on a small patch of land miles away to grow fresh food, in an environment-friendly way. They have also defied gender norms, as they started the initiative in Algeria's male-dominated agriculture industry. The two women are now running one of the country’s rare ecological plots of land, where the produce is grown in harmony with the broader ecosystem and without using pesticides. This report delves into their journey.
