Haters gonna hate, but we just saw Algiers live for the first time and they are legit on every level. Their live show is every bit as amazing as this KEXP video and that was to a relatively small crowd in Los Angeles. Unexpectedly spent time with the band before and after the show and, as individuals, they are very humble, normal, and approachable. Their message is their music, but when they're off stage they're just four normal guys having normal conversations. You wanna get deep with them get deep, but they're just as happy to talk about what's for dinner as they are their music.

2 minutes in and I'm speechless. That sound is big. Thank you KEXP for the many gifts you give.

Hello to all of you. I was wondering why the name of this synthetic group was the capital city of Algeria. Here the answer : They chose the name Algiers in reference to a key historical site of anti-colonial struggle, symbolizing a contested space where violence, racism, resistance, and religion commingle. Thanks to have taken this name in memory of the struggle of my people who wanted to escape from the wild and the exploiter coming from ... FRANCE who have a very selective memory in History !!! Besides in 1830 year of this infamous invasion France had a debt towards my country. To thank us they treated my ancestors like slaves. They plundered our land and the resources... Freedom is priceless.

BP was my fav band growing up, but im really glad Matt left. The message of this music is what we need

I needed to listen to something like this I really, really needed

i watched them in a live at the city of Patras, Greece. I've heard only one song of them before, but it was enough to go to the live and pay the ticket for the entrance, although the economical crisis here in greece. Their music was outstanding and for the first time in years i felt the music and the lyrics inside me. But because of the small crowd and some problems to the mic of the second vocals, the band finished the live early and left right away withought any will to communicate with the crowd. So dear Algiers, let me give you some advice. Here in Greece we rarely go to indoors live before mid October(its too hot), so it was bad timing. But when you are in a bad situation you try to make the best of it and not act like a diva. Even though, you are one of the best band that i know, and i am sure that your crowd here in greece will expand

Am I the only one here who fucking loves the keyboardist? Like God, why the hell do people think he's pretentious? This is just how some people enjoy music. Fuck off and let him do it however he wants. He's helping make better music than you ever will. I do this all the time too, much like he does. It's his version of enjoyment. That's all it is.

The name Algiers is a reference to the capital of Algeria.....that was once the Mecca of anti-colonialism....a country that hosted Nelson Mandela, a country that fought French colonial rule for 132 years. The links between Algeria and the US are very very old. The US supported the Algerian struggle since the 18s, and has named one of its cities Elkader after the great Algerian warrior Emir Abd Elkader, who was honored by President Lincoln.

I mean, the sound palate is amazing. The songwriting is amazing. The topical selection is amazing. But pretty much everything is pre-recorded. I love this music and I am extremely disappointed to discover that live they are a one-man show. What a man. What a lack of ensemble.
