In September, our family of 4 completed a backcountry canoe trip in Algonquin Provincial Park. We started at the Opeongo access point and took the Algonquin Outfitters water taxi to and from the portage to Proulx Lake. This is part 3 of our trip! Thanks for watching and please subscribe to follow us as we camp across Ontario!

Algonquin Provincial Park is located on the traditional land of the Omamiwininiwag and Anishinabewaki Nations. We are thankful for their stewardship of the land and for the opportunity to experience this beautiful place. (www.native-land.ca)

What a fun trip. Did you find it intimidating planning a trip like this with kids. I would love to do something like this with my kids but don't know where I would start with planning. Any tips? How did you plan food out for that length of a trip? Lol sorry for all the questions!!

Hi, my husband and I did backcountry trips before kids, so we already had a lot of the gear. I pulled out all our old gear and figured out what new things we might need. The girls are used to camping, so for them it wasn't a huge adjustment to do a backcountry trip. We dehydrate our own food and keep it simple: pasta, soft tacos, chili, Kraft dinner, peanut butter and jam on a tortilla... and tons of snacks! We need to know that they will like and eat the food out there so we don't bring anything new/surprising for them. My top tip would be to take what you think you can accomplish in a day and cut it way back! We do short paddles and portages and leave lots of time to setup, relax, and play. Thanks for watching and have fun!
