Hello Dana M. Yes the flywheel we will be supplying will be a machined O.E. Toyota flywheel. The transmission moves forward by 3 inches putting it in the same position as the V6 version of the Toyota trucks.
If your trans/ tcase moves forward 3", then your front driveshaft is now 3" to long, while the rear is 3" too short...may/ may not be an issue depending on the driveshaft(s) slip yolk travel. When is the "kit" planned to be released to the public, and is there a ball park price yet? Thank you in advance, JHK-
Hello MrKunzeification You would be correct. When the transmission is moved forward, driveshaft length must be altered. The easiest way to correct the driveshaft length is to find units fro the same wheelbase V6 Toyota truck (V6 versions had the transmission 3" ahead of the 4 cyl truck), while at it also grab the V6 transmission crossmember. So far, unfortunately, this is shaping up to be the most expensive kit we have designed, due to the necessity of a custom oil pan, custom crank pulley, as well as the intricate large mounts to be able to support the Toyota p/s, alt, a/c. An educated guess so far would be between $3200 and $4000. If things go well, we are hoping to have this kit in production by September . We may have some beta versions ready by early June.
Hi guys, alternator question, I have 1.6 TD in my 1982 Toyota pickup and running original Toyota alternator with it. When idling the alternator is not charging the battery enough ,to the point that I would not be able to start the car, when driving it is charging good. Is it because of different alternator pulley diameter slow idling diesel is not able to fully charge at idle speed. Is the 1.9 kit solving the problem.
I would take a good look at your alternator and make sure the alternator itself is not starting to fail. We have done conversions using the 1.9 AAZ Volkswagen engine which externally is identical to the 1.6 and have used the Toyota alternator without any trouble at all. You should also be consuming less energy with the diesel engine then you were with your Toyota gas powered engine as the diesel only technically needs power to open up the fuel solenoid where as the Toyota engine needed power to run the fuel pump and all of the electronica fuel injection. Your Toyota engine at idle would’ve been anywhere between 650 as high as 1000 RPM. The Volkswagen diesel, even at idle should also be revving at approximately 650 RPM in the overall diameter of the crank pulley between the original Toyota engine and the Volkswagen engine is only marginally different. Even when We’ve had a poorly running Toyota motor that was only idling at 400 RPM, the alternator was still charging.

Hey again M W. I'm hoping for a clear bay in the shop around the end of March so that we can start fabricating on a the 01 Tacoma. Once we start, it usually takes three weeks before we have a workable Proto type. After that it will be another month before we are able to release our "beta" versions (totally produced in house, not laser cut, but done with a milling machine, all tubing will also be mandrel bent, but welded together in house). Hi Kevin G. That's a tough question. While the only way to be totally sure is to physically try it, we may be able to get a really good idea by talking to you directly. This way we could get a good sense of how your engine bay differs from a stock 4WD truck. Hey D. Duerksen, you're not alone! Most people who have not experienced a Volkswagen 1.9 L turbo diesel engine cannot comprehend how much ability they have. Once you get past the stigma that a small engine cannot do big things, you'll find out just what these little machines are capable of. I think the best way for you to see what they're capable of, is look at our other videos. You will find us pulling in excess of 8000 pounds behind a lifted truck on oversized tires, and still achieving nearly 60 mph. You will also find us pushing past 100 mph in a lifted truck on stock size tires. We have never yet had a customer disappointed with the power output. The super bonus is, the ability of better than 40 miles per US gallon! Remember, Volkswagen have been running small turbo charged diesels longer than any of the US or Japanese companies, and if you look at the new GM SUV with a 1.6 turbo diesel, it shouldn't be hard to believe what a 1.9 Volkswagen can do. Hello Nick We don't have this kit in full production yet. We can build non laser cut pieces here in house before the kit is in production when requested, however, our mounts are designed to orient the engine with our adapter plate ( which is different from other manufacturers design ). Our engine mounts also incorporate the mounts for Toyota a/c, alt, and p/s, and require the transmission to be moved 3" forward. Hello Blowin Kk, and thank you for the interest. As of yet (January 20/18) we do not have a cost projection. As we've stated in the video, we still have more to complete for this kit. Things we will be having to supply in this kit, unlike the earlier versions of VW diesels we've built kits for included; oil pan, oil pick up tube, crank pulley, likely 4 idler pulleys, more complex tubing from air filter to turbo, we're now using pilot bearing instead of bushings, and we haven't even started on the TDi wiring (we expect the wiring to be similar to what we've done with earlier VW TDi's), and we've still got to build an install bracket for the VW accelerator pedal. Previous kits sold for between $2500-$3500 USD, depending upon engine choice and model/year Toyota. This kit unfortunately, is more involved, (we've taken huge strides to make it as simple for the customers to install as possible. Nearly as easy as reinstating the the 22R series Toyota engine. No cutting, no welding, no lift kits necessary). At this point we're hoping to be able to sell this kit for around $3400. That should supply everything other than the inter cooler and inter cooler piping.🤞 The nice thing about this kit is; no lift kit expense, no alternator swap expense, no custom starter expense, and no custom p/s or a/c lines.
