I don't think they are a waste of money, for a lot of people it is very important to share such an important event with all their loved ones and have that memory forever. However, yeah, lots of other people only do it for the sake of having a big party to show off, and they spend too much money trying to make a wedding the way they think it should be because of what they've seen instead of finding something special for them. I'm the kind of person that would have a super small ceremony with family and instead use the money for traveling, but I don't think people that want a big wedding are wasting their money. Everyone has different needs and wants.

@@Dino13 I honestly think it's a waste of money. Especially here in NYC! Destination wedding with close loved ones is fine. Big elaborate ones are mainly to showoff and party for family and friends, not for the actual married couple to be. Just my humble opinion.

Really none of your business what people spend on their special day. It's up to each couple to decide what they want to spend, whether that be a small or large event. Who are you to tell others what they should or shouldn't do. How about you give your opinion on what is good for you and "call it a day"

I would say usually bridesmaids pay for their own gown. Not only that, you're obligated to go to the bachelorette party (flight, hotel, drinks, etc.) and sometimes everyone chips in to pay for the bride's share as well. Then you have to pay for hair and makeup and nails for the wedding. It depends on the wedding, but some brides aren't cool with you doing your own hair/makeup/nails because they want everyone to look super done up for the photos. You're also usually expected to help with wedding prep if there's no wedding planner. Of course, every bride and wedding party is different so it could be more or less expensive in terms of both money and labor.

@@boredstephanie Wow, it's really different here in the Philippines. All of those things are expected to be the couple's responsibilities. Including the wedding prep unless they have a wedding organizer.

Depends on the people getting married. I have friends who paid for their bridal parties' gowns,suits, shoes etc. I know others who had everyone but themselves spend money on wedding stuff.

I paid everything for my bridesmaids except for their plane tickets, which they would have gotten anyway if they were to attend as guests. They were still students so I didn't want to financially burden them.

I paid for my bridesmaids’ dresses and my husband paid for the suit rental for his groomsmen. My bridesmaids did their own hair and makeup.

Jon Screen Their Nationality or color of their Skin have nothing to do with this, one of them just won 3 Emmys and created 2 of the best TV shows rn, the other just one an Oscar, a golden globe and a bafta and was nominated to an Emmy. The last two were a crucial part of the arguably the greatest show in history.
