Jerry’s guitar has taken the spotlight since Layne left us. God bless this talent that was so integral to AIC and thank you Jerry for keeping the spirit alive ❤
Duvall is not Layne Staley, never will be, but i also have a lot of respect for him, he is filling the shoes of someone great. Layne Didn't contribute much sadly, he did more singing then anything, but he is a voice we lost and might never have a gain. This man does a great job filling the spot, he sounds close enough, and yet his own as well. His stuff that he helped write, sounds awesome.
Close your eyes and listen...picture Layne singing this song now...I know there are differences and he will never fill Layne's shoes...NO ONE WILL EVER BE ABLE TO...but he's pretty spot on.
I think it's wrong to suggest that Layne didn't influence a large part of the lyrical melodies to any of these songs (especially his parts that are in addition to the core lyrics of Cantrell). I'd look at it as he wrote an additional instrument, another vocalist part for the song. Somewhat like people turning Dylan into something else. Imo, whether he wrote the lyrics for many of these songs or not, he's as much a member as any, and clearly a huge part of their sound.
The outro solo is the best I'v ever heard done for this song. Man, what a show. Just because one member dies doesn't have to be the end of the whole band but sometimes it is... Not the case here ! Tributes can be great
agreed, especially about Jerry's playing... he's under-rated as a player and a song writer. The man is tone master! He's up there with gilmour as having that gift of transfering emotions through the guitar. this particular solo is just amazing...
Is Duvall Stayley? Nope. Does he do a great job with Layne's vocal parts very respectfully and commendably without imitating? Hell yeah. He's not a replacement, he's an addition.
No,as per say mike inez, we like Duvall and pick him as new frontman because he didnt copycat Layne vocal Line during Jamm, its take only 1 song with duvall and 3 of us agree to approved.
Magic occurs everytime listening to this sublime song.....Cantrell plays that solo even better and longer live. Helped me out so many times through the years.
1/4 of Alice in Chains died when Staley did. The rest of the band after taking more than a DECADE away from it decided to keep doing what they loved and dedicated their lives to. It's Layne and Mike Starr that are ashes, let those who wrote the music with them continue on.
Duvall done it justice especially with the delivery. Stayley was a one of a kind voice that couldnt be repeated. RIP Layne keep rockin in heaven. Evey time Gerry plays this solo Layne watches over. No longer in pain or wondering where can he go or qhat to do. ❤
All concerts it's my favourite with the sunligth and the best music.. i cry with this :( /m/ long life Alice In Chains.. long life the soul of Staley Layne
Layne voice.Jerry Cantrell guitar. Will never happen again. This song should be left alone. Best song ever written. Driving on a autumn day. Or just to adjust your thoughts. This is the one.
everyone needs to face it man, main man Layne has passed, as painful as it is to face. but aren't we lucky to be able to have the band play on in dedication to the legend? I think so. the fact that Layne would be smiling is enough for me.
4:35 .. in that moment when we tilted his head to the sky and closed his eyes, Layne was with him. He may not have been there singing, but he was there. And Jerry could feel it. Miss you so much.
This version is incredible. I'd take it over the studio version any time if it was Layne singing instead of William, but even with Will this is top tier
I don’t think I will ever listen to this song again in my life. I lost a friend to suicide every time I hear this song, it brings tears to my eyes, but like I said, I will not listen to it ever again.
All these haters hating on the new lead singer. He's as good as anyone is going to get as far as sounding like Layne so get the fuck over it and yeah he's black so fucking what, just thank God he has the same vibe and doesnt fuck up the lyrics and can even play the guitar just fine.
The only human being on this planet who does justice to this other than Layne is Aaron Lewis He should at least sing this song once with kinney , Inez and cantrell
