Happy 65th birthday to Disneyland's Alice in Wonderland dark ride, which opened on June 14, 1958! To celebrate, I have this special complete soundtrack, featuring Isolated versions of each and every audio track, from my observations. This classic dark ride takes guests past several characters and scenes from Walt Disney's 1951 animated classic. This original version mostly lasted until September 1982, when it closed for about a year and a half during a major refurbishment. Before 1983, there were some similar scenes, but they all looked and sounded quite different, with more plywood cutouts and audio from the 1951 film. There was a couple scenes (Upside Down and Oversized Rooms) that have been replaced since 1983. There were also a few pieces of dialogue in each room by Alice's original voice actor, Kalthlyn Beaumont, which were used exclusively in this version of the ride. The full original area music was a 90 second version of the 1951 film's Opening Credits song. I have this music twice, at the beginning and the end of this video. All of the façade pictures were taken between 1958-66, while most or all interior ones were as well. I think there was at least one minor change to the audio in the mid 60's, being the removal of the instrumentals of Twas Brillng in the Tulgey Wood room, as these were present in the 1958 DisneyChris audio mix. Each track from each room is presented. After the dark Rabbit Hole, the Upside Down Room featured Alice's dialogue, the White Rabbits Horn, a clock, fireplace, and an abbreviated version of the White Rabbits song I'm Late. The Oversized room was relatively simple, with Alice's dialogue and the Cheshire Cats looping laughter. The Golden Afternoon featured dialogue, the titular song (This version's longest interior track at over a minute), and the roaring dandelion, who would pop up from below the floor in this version. The Tulgey Wood featured dialogue, sounds of Wonderland Bird Cage, Horn Ducks, Crickets, and Cheshire Cats song of Twas Brillng. The Unbirthday Party featured the titular song, as well as dialogue for Alice, Mad Hatter, March Hare, and Dormouse. The last scene took guests past a stylized explosion, signs like those in the film and current Tulgey Wood, and lastly four crash doors that each had their own scream by Goofy. This was created by Claude Coats as a fun way to end this ride with relatively limited space and budget. The ride was still loved by me and many others though, and is still to this day 65 years later. I hope you enjoy this special complete soundtrack of the original Alice in Wonderland!
I do not own any of the audio or images used in this video. All of this audio is owned by Disney, and all of these images are owned by their respective owners.

Wonderful! I have vague memories of this version when I was a child. Def recall the version from the mid-80s which debuted along with Pinocchio.

Glad it brought back memories. I wish I could have experienced this version, even though I prefer the current one. It also would have been cool to see New Fantasyland debut in 1983-84.

wow this is fantastic, as well as the later interior shots! I thought It was some fever dream that I had experienced the original Alice even though it closed when I was 3, but seeing the late color shots definitely triggered something in my memory!

Understandable why you’d think it was a fever dream. This version is a nightmare.

@@sealy1The 1958-1961 is a horrorland, because in 1961 most of the flats and things are made less terrifying
@benjaminroberson1924
@benjaminroberson1924 7 месяцев назад
@@sealy1 I can definitely see how it can feel scary, even though I don't find it that scary. However, it was indeed softened a little bit in 1961. In the pre 1961 version, the Mad Hatter & March Hare popped out of the floor (Screaming "Move down!"), which in 1961 were changed to static props that had a similar tea pouring effect to the skeletons on Pirates, although these and the 1958 audio remained until 1982. The Cheshire Cat pictured here is also the 1958 version and was made a little bit more on-model in 1961 and again in the 1970's, but all the characters were remade to be more accurate to the film versions in the 1982-84 refurb.

@@benjaminroberson1924 The only Alice in Wonderland related thing they have there is the mad tea party ride which, if I am correct, began the trend of spinning teacup rides in every amusement park around the world? I don’t know.

@benjaminroberson1924 Год назад
I think it's correct that the Mad Tea Party was one of if not the first spinning teacups ride in the world.
@sonicfan91
@sonicfan91 Год назад
@@benjaminroberson1924 Many amusement parks were inspired by Disney to make their own teacups ride after that, so that’s actually correct, after doing some research. Also, I want you to know this regarding your magic kingdom 1971 small world ride through mix. There’s an error in accuracy regarding Spain. The Spanish guitars didn’t actually get used on Spain until the 90’s, it was always in the Argentina scene until then. The proof? Most of the magic kingdom footage from the 80’s shows the normal 1964 Spain audio playing in that scene. In the early 90s however the scene went silent for a while until they put the gaucho guitar in as a placeholder. I may be right or wrong about this but that’s what I wanted you to know.
@benjaminroberson1924
@benjaminroberson1924 Год назад
@@sonicfan91 I'm sorry about this late reply, but that's great info about the Magic Kingdom version, thank you for telling me! I see my error in the Spain scene in some 1980's videos now. I may update the 1971 audio mix at some point, especially since I also realize the pre-2004 queue music actually most likely wasn't used until probably the late 1970's, as a 1974 RetroWDW sound film proves otherwise. *(Not the one with the ride, but a different one)* Before that, it was some kind of loop that included at least the isolated 1971 Finale vocals.

How can the Cheshire Cat shrink? 2:44
@benjaminroberson1924
@benjaminroberson1924 Год назад
Actually, that was the Cheshire Cat laughing at Alice as Alice was shrinking, which was the concept of the Oversized Room. It seemed like he was laughing at you because you took the place of the main characters in each of the original Fantasyland dark rides. With a couple small exceptions, Peter Pan (1960-82 Nursery shadow) and Snow White (Early 1970's-81 mannequin), as well as the old queue murals, the main characters did not physically appear in their rides until the 1982-83/84 refurbishments.

How did Disney Chris get this audio
@benjaminroberson1924
@benjaminroberson1924 Год назад
I'm not entirely sure, but I think he used to work at Disneyland which would have been a relatively easy way to get this, at least closer to when this version closed. However, many of the tracks here were mixed together in DisneyChris audio mix. I actually used an AI program to get different isolated vocals and music. There is also a private audio mix that Adam Smithson sent me, which has several more of the isolated tracks in this video. It also helps that all of the actual songs were directly from the 1951 film.
