Rhaenyra didn’t shirk her responsibilities when she was younger… Her father (with prodding from Otto) constantly pushed away her thoughts and ideas, and never let her participate in anything involving the Small Council or anything other than her responsibility as a cup bearer. When he found out she went ahead and confronted Daemon at Dragonstone about taking baby Baelon’s egg for his supposed baby, he had a fit. He should have been relieved that she was proving herself to be a competent person when given responsibilities. He just didn’t want her to get hurt, and he should have encouraged her to do more things like that (especially if he didn’t go do those things himself)!! Viserys STIFLED her, yet she quickly outgrew the arrogance we see when she is younger, and that matured into tenacity and strength. She did all of that IN SPITE OF Otto whispering in her father’s ear. That’s another reason why she DESERVES to be heir.

I would love the blacks to win, Rhaenyra has grown into a good candidate, she appreciated the responsibility that she didn't when she was younger. Whereas Aegon is up there as far as the worst possibly prepared candidates. But Joffrey kindly spoiled the ending, but it will be fascinating to see the events unfold on screen. Also, there is something to be said that Viserys always stuck with Rhaenyra as his heir, despite having a male son. In the land of Westeros, that really should speak volumes about who we thought would be best for the realm.

Team Rhaenyra because she is the true heir to the Iron Throne and with Daemons support they will get the 7 kingdoms united. The Hightower's took advantage of Viserys' illness and never communicated to Rhaenyra that her father was sick and dying. So after the dinner that ended in a fight Alicent should have insisted that Rhaenyra stay close by or in her old rooms at the castle because she knew that his death was coming soon. But instead she thought that the rambling of Viserys as he lay dying was about her son Aegon who is a lazy coward would do a better job. I mean damn, his own father knew that he was lazy and weak so he never named him to be his heir instead of Rhaenyra in the first place. Second he never told his children with Alicent about the conqueror's dream/ prophecy about the song of Ice and Fire. So they don't know anything about the prince that was promised but I can tell you Aegon is not the prince that was promised. I hope this new season is a good one ❤

I don't think Alicent's push for her son to be named heir had that much to do with Viserys' "deathbed announcement" to her. I think she was pretty much already driven, as you stated, by her father to want to see this become a reality. But she uses the excuse of some delirious old man's ramblings as the reason behind this push. The man's delirious and even if they didn't have the same name for it "back then" as we have for it today I don't think anyone would take seriously anything someone in that horrible state of decline says, how could they? No, I think even if Viserys hadn't rambled on deliriously about the dream or whatever it is he was going on about that as soon as he died Alicent and Otto were going to do everything they could to see their blood on the throne. Maybe initially had there not been these ramblings Alicent might've gone along with Rhanerya being the heir. But that probably wouldn't have lasted too long considering how Alicent already felt about Rhanerya's corrupt ways. The best and most reasonable solution to this whole thing would've been for King Viserys to simply unname Rhaenyra as his heir. Period. She was a bad girl and had trampled all over the laws and traditions and even moral codes of the land and wasn't and isn't worthy of sitting the Iron Throne. And it has nothing to do with her being a woman, even though they had less voice and respect as they do now in our world. In terms of the "greater good" Rhaenyra just isn't a good choice to be ruling a kingdom.

Not only was Rheanyra chosen by her father but he also handed her the dagger and passed down the prophecy that Aegon neither knows of or would care about even if he did. All the talk about impulsive or against tradition is the behavior of royalty. However she is honorable and has the soul of a leader.

Team green. I have to support Alicent over Rhaenyra any time. Rhaenyras reason for the throne is my father said this, my father said that. She never works for it, and she runs when things get hard. Having Rhaenyra and Daemon on that throne would be a catastrophy. At least the Hightowers are good at playing the game. They make allies, they are good at politics and diplomacy. And offer solutions to avoid conflict. The Targaryens are all about blood and violence. And the excuse of Aegon is an usurper and the Hightowers are out to steal her throne is just that, and excuse, because Alicents 4 children are Targaryens as well Both Teams have big issues but we have to choose the lesser evil at least. Having Alicent and Otto reigning will always be safer for the people than Rhaenyra and Daemon. (And i say this hating Otto the *pimp* and Aegon the *rapist*) But Daemon the *sociopath* is far more dangerous And His and Rhaenyras cruelty will show on season 2

Alicent couldn't actually believe that Viserys wanted Aegon to be king. Remember that he said to her Aegons dream. Why didn't she ask Aegon about the dream. Had she done so, she would have known that he was talking about the Conquerors' dream. He spoke to her once about the gift of prophecy, " what is the gift of prophecy against....", when they were on the hunt. Alicent poisoned her children by secretly calling Rhaenyra's kids bastards. They were friends as kids, but Alicent poisioned them.

Team Black Always. Rhaenyra was named the heir by Viserys in front of all the noble houses and vassals. She has grown into a mature woman and is set to be a MUCH better, more levelheaded and stable ruler than Aegon could EVER be. She is married to Daemon, who was considered the initial heir before her father even named her, and they have children together who can inherit if anything were to happen to Jace. She has Corlys and Rhaenys backing her, acting as sort of defacto parents to her (as she has lost her parents, and they have lost their children), and they love and accept her kids. Also, the entire Black Council is close, save for maybe Rhaenys and Daemon. Yes, Daemon is a wild card. He is chaos. He may make some decisions she wishes he hadn’t… but this is about who is the rightful person to sit the throne. If Aegon sits the throne, he will make too many drunken, angry mistakes, and that will eventually trickle down to the rest of mankind dying in the war with the Others. So, that’s what it boils down to, for me.
