May is Mouth Breathing Awareness Month!
That means over the next month, I'll posting on social media every day trying to spread the word, and I've asked my amazing MyoMentor Graduates to help me out.
MyoMentor students and graduates are some of the most passionate dental and healthcare professionals I know, and many of them have struggled with their own myofunctional symptoms - mouth breathing, tongue-tie, sleep disordered breathing, and more.
So I'll be interviewing THEM to share their stories and highlight what they are doing in their practices and communities to help their patients.
Today I interviewed Alicia Janssens, a dental hygienist from Los Angeles, California. I loved hearing about her journey working in public health and how she is so passionate about helping her patients.
Just like so many others, Alicia discovered myofunctional therapy and then started to make connections to her own symptoms that went all the way back to her childhood.
She had always breathed through her mouth, and has always felt tired. She was told she just has "chronic fatigue" and even had a sleep study 15 years ago that said she was fine.
It's great to listen to a hygienist who is so passionate about helping patients as well as about starting her own journey down this path.
I would LOVE for you to connect with Alicia! She's just finishing her myofunctional therapy training and getting her practice started, but she's still happy to chat!
