J.K. Simmons presenting Alicia Vikander with the Oscar® for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in "The Danish Girl" at the 88th Oscars® in 2016.
Will Edzy Hartwin The moment I really liked in Spotlight from her is when her character discusses how the days of her mother going to church might fall away with the story spotlight are running.
Keep in mind she's Canadian and it's extremely difficult for anyone not from USA/UK to get a nomination, let alone a win. This is due to canadians not being part of the Hollywood actor's union.
sooo true! i've watched the video over and over again just for his look... im smiling and crying and wish from the bottom of my heart that i will have one day that same look on me
Most women don't appreciate men who are sensitive. A lot of men look at their women in that way, only for the women to fuck some random chad at a night out you weren't attending because she wanted to be dominated more than loved.
ledepi34 It must have stuck thanks to her movie roles. I remember her talking with a Swedish American accent some years ago before she became mainstream.
It’s a little weird that Vikander won for Supporting for The Danish Girl while she had more screen time (estimated 65 minutes) than the Best Actress winner Brie Larson for Room (estimated 50 minutes)
So they only give you 1 minute for a speech?! Come on, it's the most important moment in the winner's career and he/she only has 60 seconds to thank everyone or whatever else they want to say... But of course there is plenty of time for commercials.
Yeah, for commercials there is the whole time of the world xD, that is why I'm thankfull that in my country the Oscars air at night and I watch the ceremony the next day and can skip all the ads and boring parts xD
I have truly thought the same thing for a long time. I think we should have a petition which says, we do NOT NEED YOUR FRIGGIN' LITTLE JOKES AND BS!!!! Let these people who have worked so hard talk instead!!!!!!
And, it's not just commercials. It is all the truly cringe-worthy crap and little skits and stuff they put on there. The have every preesenter(s) come up there, and waste two or three minutes doing a little "bit" that almost ALWAYS fails. They waste half the night on that crap, and then want to hustle some of the greatest actors off of the stage????? Seriously, F*** THAT!!!!!
If only it was that way.... I don't like Emma Watson at all... I don't like her face I don't know, just my personal opinion. Alicia is super beautiful, gorgeous and everything.
Considering the fact that the sequel to the movie Tomb Raider (2018) is cancelled, I think it would be great if there were two more Tomb Raider or Lara Croft movies! Therefore, I strongly advocate that you sign a fan petition for not 1 but 2 more Lara Croft or Tomb Raider films! Here’s my fan signature: Jason Lau Will you sign a petition for two more films?
Her performance throughout Testament of Youth is one of the best and rarest I've seen an actress reach the level of commitment to a rule and the ability to evolve the character and still manage to stay in it, that alone granted her an Oscar in the future.. And about time she won it! Absolutely well deserved...
Eddie shakes his head when she says “I could never do this without you” and “you raised my game”, seems like he implied “you’re wrong, you could and you’re talented enough on your own”.
They will push Supporting if they feel their chances at winning are better, than in Lead. Lead Actress that year was heavy, and she probably wouldn't have been nominated had they pushed lead noms.
I've just finished watching the Danish Girl. The performances of all the actors was outstanding but Alicia stepped it up even further. Man, she was beautiful but also heartbreaking to watch. A very well deserved Oscar 👏
Honestly her entire look here should be in the history already, among the greatest looks ever on the Oscars. The hair, the dress, how she pulls yellow, everything about her look here is just mesmerising. She's channeling Belle from Beauty and the Beast here to perfection as well.
Rooney Mara gave a masterfully nuanced performance where she did more storytelling with her eyes than what many actors try to do through exposition and deserved to win.
I rooted for Mara! Rooney, an amazing talented actress, will take her statuette in future. She's stunning in each movie she does. Probably one of the best actresses of her generation.
+Nguyen Nam yes and it was very good and i love rooney but alicia's performance in danish girl was amazing. i didn't think id like a movie about that topic but both her and eddy's acting was amazing.
+RobertO'Sullivan i think that Rooney was definitely the best out of the five of them. She just rocked that performance, and Vikander wasn't even close to Rooney. I can only imagine that she didn't win because of the topic the movie had (lesbian; Carol is a masterpiece and it didn't win anything) so yeah, she was fucking robbed.
Kate Winslet was AMAZING in "Steve Jobs". One of her best performances! I loved Alicia Vikander in "The Danish Girl" but she was clearly LEAD, as was Rooney Mara in "Carol"
Alicia Vikander should had been a double nominee in 2016; Best Actress for The Danish Girl and Best Supporting Actress for Ex Machina, I still can't believe they nominated her for a clearly leading role in the supporting category just to give Jennifer Lawrence another nomination. Period
So well deserved. She's an amazing actress and a very beautiful and classy woman. Rooney deserved it as much as her, but in the end I'm pretty much satisfied about this award. I hope she has a long and successful career, she deserves it.

I love her. She did a great job in The Danish Girl. ♥
It makes me so so so happy to see her win the award. The movie was brilliant and the acting performances were amazing. Especially Eddie Redmayne and of course, Alicia Vikander. She deserved it. She was just so so good! Loved the movie, loved the actors.
Alicia Vikander was unbelievable as Gerda in 'The Danish Girl'. She deserved the Oscar, and the SAG as well. No one was robbed, and i love Rooney Mara but the things as they are
Very well deserved for an excellent supporting performance. I just saw the film and it's amazing how excellent Eddie Redmayne is, but also how he gives the film to Alicia.
+Irina Girleanu Alicia Vikander comun performance ... Rooney brillant but leading performances...!! Alicia does not give anything ... !! Jennifer Jason Leigh should won!!
@@davy209 is because the studio knew larson was going to win for room so they put Alicia in supporting I honestly think if Alicia wasn’t in this category mcadams would of won
This win always annoys me, not because Vikander isn't talented, far from it. The reason is that she is in no way supporting in The Danish Girl. She should of been nominated in this category for Ex Machina and then in leading for The Danish Girl instead of Jennifer Lawrence. BAFTA and Golden Globes got it right by putting her in leading. By doing this stupid category fraud, it has denied Winslet her second Oscar :/
It has nothing to do with the Oscars per se. The blame lies with the studio who funded the film as they submit the actors/actresses into whichever category they feel they will most likely gain enough recognition to receive a nomination. I also think Vikander in The Danish Girl should have been submitted in the lead actress category but it wasn't to be. Rooney Mara should have been submitted in lead as well, but the studio didn't want her and Cate Blanchett to go against each other for Carol.
i am not being judgemental but normally people acknowledge the performances which are loud, dramatic, appealing and length of roles.....but don't observe the vulnerability and authenticity of the performers which makes strong characters.... she totally deserved it
One of the best supporting actress wins, if not the best, in Oscar History. Some might argue that she was not a "supporting" actress but a lead, but I think it fits her to be in the "supporting" category as what is Gerda if not "supporting?" I love your acting in this film, Alicia Vikander. She was a true heart and soul of the film.
why do out of all these talented people I was looking at Eddie with such admiration, he's not even my fav actor, but there's some inner integrity and intelligence in him that makes him so charming
Since the academy couldn't care less about nominating her and Rooney in the wrong category why the fuck didn't they gave it to the best one? Rooney got obviously robbed! I hope she wins next year in leading for Una
I'm so happy and impressed with how far Ava has come in the past 12 months! Good for her, winning an Oscar! Btw it doesn't matter if you failed the Turing test, all that matters is how great Ava is doing!
Alicia was outstanding in the Danish Girl, and she deserved to be nominated for everything, but this award should've gone to either Rooney Mara for Carol, or Kate Winslet for Steve Jobs.
I would've preferred Rooney and Alicia scoring nominations for best actress rather than compete in this category that they clearly don't belong in. I would've picked Alicia as a winner for supporting actress for Ex Machina and Rooney as a nominee for best actress over Jennifer Lawrence.
