To celebrate the 5th anniversary of Alien Covenant this video examines and compares two script drafts written by John Logan. Alien, Prometheus, Alien Covenant (C) 20th Century Studios
In many ways Im mixed about some elements of what was in the original prequel script by John Spaihts Alien Engineers and how some details were absurd, it could have been better than Prometheus or it could have been very awful. Seeing how the sequel went from Paradise Lost an alien absent direct Prometheus sequel the same could be said it could have been better than Alien Covenant or it could have been very awful. It’s cool but also irritating to ponder what could have been but also appreciate what we got for better or worse. I’d imagine that despite how divisive these prequels were they’ll garner a cult following for their provocative themes and Ridley Scott’s visuals.
The sequel to Prometheus really should have been Paradise Lost, a movie we now know would have followed David and Shaw to the Engineers home world, where they would have discovered their creator, rumoured to have been the Space Jockey, explaining how they stole the black goo from them in an attempt to recreate the alien to destroy us. A creature said to be the Neomorph, but very different from the alien we know the Space Jockey had created for an unknown reason. However, Fox didn't want this, and were coming under pressure from a group of so-called fans disappointed with Scott's Prometheus who wanted to see more aliens. And that's how we ended up with Covenant, a movie that still has many ideas carried over from Paradise Lost, but was more about the alien that Scott was trying to get away from.
