man... Alien Isolation complete 10 years in 2024.... it's unbelievable how this game is a timeless masterpiece... I can't believe we never had a sequel...
It's incredible, but this game even runs on a laptop with Celeron 1000M, without a discrete video card, on the integrated one.On minimum graphics settings, but still a stable 25 fps Once upon a time, developers were not lazy in optimizing their games.

Playing F.E.A.R. in the mid 2000s was plenty enough to make me afraid. I can't imagine playing a remastered/remade version of that in VR, I'd cack my pants in 5 minutes flat 😂🤣 Ye tho, I could imagine a full PBR RT/PT remaster of Alien Isolation being incredible looking in VRt oo.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but it looks exactly the same. I think that’s a testament to how amazing the game still looks a decade later rather than a commentary on the improvement of RTX.
@@mikmoody3907 It’s not fake, I just downloaded it. The lighting and reflections are the most noticeable improvement. It’s not necessarily an RTX mod, that wouldn’t make any sense. I think an RTX card is being used to achieve 4K, but that doesn’t translate to a compressed RU-vid video.
@@SpaceJockey805 4k resolution has nothing to do with RTX which has nothing to do with ray tracing. 4k is just 4x the amount of pixels compared to 1080p, it's just a measure of resolution. At the start of the video you can see some reflections on the ground, but after that there don't seem to be realistic shadows cast by lights or realistic reflections on shiny surfaces like the alien's head for example. If it was using ray tracing, you'd see light, shadows, reflections and refractions behaving as you'd expect them to in real-life. (meaning anything bright would brighten everything around it and cast shadows, and anything shiny would reflect anything around it)
@@SpaceJockey805 All the guy did was up the res of them... The game uses Planar reflections not RT nor has RT been injected in some way here. Also he uses reshade which is mostly just filters, and one can do Screenspace RT ( which is still nothing like actual RT ) . Nothing in this mod is RT, and stop saying RTX. The fact you still call RT, RTX shows you have no understanding of what it actually is so therefore shouldn't talk about it at all.
Truly a passion project from Creative Assembly. When you listen and see their Developer Vlogs, you can see how much they love the first movie and put their heart and soul into what they were creating. The only game to give me close to a heart attack....

@@SpaceJockey805 the first time I ever played it I walked in the train and turned arounf and the xeno walked right up to the doors and they shut just in time. I thought it was a scripted event until my second playthrough when it didn't happen. Hasn't happened since after 3 more play throughs. Thats the magic that happens when you have no clue what you're doing or where to go on the first play!
*and perfectly flat. You would expect a space station to be made from a lot of panels snapped together, not all of which would be hermetically sealed with invisible seams to disturb the surface.
I got this when it was in the steam sale recently and playing it now. Wow. What a game! The sounds, sights, and total immersion in the Alien universe. Brilliant game.
One of the pitfalls in ray/path traced games, everything becomes super reflective to show off the reflections. They need to use better materials so reflections actually look appropriate for the material and that IRL MOST things are not very reflective.
Yeah the non ray traced looks more realistic. Also the reflection shouldn't be there on the floors. Maybe on certain surfaces but definitely not the floor unless its marble or brand new flooring.

That's just what you get when lazy azz modders and game devs try to act cool with "RTX ON" videos that display only RT reflections on surfaces that have no PBR texture maps for normals or roughness. Real surfaces don't look like that even when they are wet. The water moves with the air currents, any variation in the elevation of the floor causes pockets of water to become isolated and the higher parts dry out showing their own surface texture. Even a basic grunge map on the roughness values would have made it look far more believable than this mess, this is just peak lazy content creation.
I always come back to this game. As a die hard alien fan it's in my top 5 fave games of all time. Just like the first 2 films, this game still looks and feels amazing all these years later. We need a sequel from CA immediately!
Unfortunately, I was never able to complete this wonderful game. I love this universe but the gameplay is too intense for me. The suspense is just incredible.
What? No, you gotta finish it. Play it on easiest at least... so you can take in all the atmosphere. I go back and play through this game every so often because I need to be immersed in the aesthetics.
@@Mekaneckpain It's not about the level of difficulty. The thing is, I love this aesthetic too. I love the Alien universe. It's probably my favorite horror movie (like The Thing, for example). The game really immerses you in the setting of the original 1979 film. I'm just scared😅 I guess I'll finally gather my strength and complete this game.
It's great game, you really should try to push through it to the end. I will say the only downside of this game is how much it goes on for. There were about 3 times I thought I was finished only for another section to come up, But it's really only a minor complaint in a sea of amazing design, gameplay, atmosphere, and terror.
@@averagemug Yes, I will definitely try to finish this game after many years (I started playing it the year it was released). I was amazed by the artificial intelligence of the xenomorph. He really hears and sees you. This is very frightening, it creates the feeling that you are there and your opponent is unpredictable, as if he is alive. The level design, sounds, and gameplay are simply amazing. upd. And yes, I'm 37 years old, I'm married, I have a small business, I've seen and experienced a lot of shit (because I'm from Russia🥲), but I'm afraid to play this game. Paradox 🤷🏻♂️😅
This game STILL looks great in 2024, ten years later. Can you imagine if they did a remaster using today's graphics capabilities? Or maybe a sequel to this. It would be even more realistic and terrifying.
This has nothing to do with "RTX" - no ray tracing here in any shape or form, it's simple config files tweaks and enabled planar reflections (which existed in the first Unreal game in 1998. and ran on 3dfx hardware) + reshade. Still look good, though, but hella misleading title.
The way you looked around sometimes it seemed like you were for real concerned a Xenomorph was behind you. 😄 That's just a testament to how atmospheric this game is. I always wanted to try it in VR.

The only game I actually just stopped playing after a while. It was too stressful and I would play with the motion and microphone on to really get immersed

nothing is. The lighting and reflections is not a mod. It's just part of the game. I have installed zero mods and it looks as good if not better than this
nah, way too much reflection and unrealistic hyperclean surfaces with RTX. i also tried tons of reshade presets and while they all don't look bad and have their pros, i still find the original game graphics looks best and fits the overall vibe of the game. HDR though could be a real winner in this game
This is the real problem with these mods. You can't just drop RT reflections on a game that has no PBR metal, roughness or normal maps to break up those reflections with more surface visual information.
This mod hasnt got any ray tracing at all though??? Its planar reflections and all the mod does is up the res of them and add an option to make them like a mirror. So the person here turned on that shitty option.
u can see a small difference compared to the original but the original lighting still holds up extremely well. this game was made with so much love and care by the developers and it shows with absolutely everything.
A ray (or even path) traced aware version of Isolation makes too much sense. Imagine having the Xeno spot you through the reflections on these shiny corridors? Absolute cinema.
Just installed this mod and compared it to the vanilla graphics. The game always looked great (maybe not the NPC animations) but this mod really breathes new life into the atmosphere of the game.
Looking at how "little" this mod improves the graphics just shows how good the graphics were. They really put all the eggs in the hard surfaces.. The only thing that has aged like old milk is the cutscenes (which were already subpar back then) - such a good game.
The game almost looks like this on the series X thanks to the framerate boost amd Auto HDR. A little less reflections and a little more flickering but its a legit upgrade for free. Everyone who has a Series S or X should gove this game another chance. One of my favorite last gen games.
I played through it some time after it came out... never touched it again. I had to do 30-60 minute sessions because I couldn't bear the stress for longer. One of the best games I've ever played.
Honestly Alien Isolation still looks good even without any mods, the levels weren't massive so they put a decent amount of detail into the textures with a lot of variations in the map, what truly made it look great was the lighting of the base game and what elevated it above and beyond a lot of the games of its time. The improved reflections at the start were definitely a good show-case of what improvements could be made but if you really wanted to see an improvement the Alien Hive was probably the spot to showcase.
Man...The whole sequens took you around 15 mins...It took me more than 5 hours to finish when I played it for the first time :D I couldn't figuree out how to pass those people...and I spent lot of time hiding (:
Hands up who else has found themselves hiding in a locker, with chest pain, too anxious to get out..... I had my wife hiding under a blanket shouting 'DONT!....DONT GO OUT ITS THERE I JUST KNOW IT IS!" and me like... "WELL WTF AM I SUPPOSED TO DO BECKY??? I CANT JUST LIVE IN HERE I NEED TO FIND THE DOCTORS KEYCARD!!!" forgetting the kinect is picking up our domestic argument and the Alien is literally just going out of the room and coming back in repeatedly.... I also didn't realise the Alien could get into the vents..never came up first time I played it.
One of my favorite levels in the game was landing on LV 426 and entering the Space Jockey ship (I refuse to acknowledge the term Engineers or the movie that introduced them). Creative did an excellent job recreating the moon, its storms, terrain and the interior of the ship. There was even a slight nod to the spitual cousin to Alien, the movie Outland where were introduced to the Marshal Watts I thought that was cool. Btw, I'd scream like a little girl if I saw a dead body or something wearing a Con Am 27 tee shirt! LOL!
This in VR is one the most intense experience you can achieve in entertainment industry. It’s unbelievable ya can have it @ the comfort of your sweet home.

It would be great to get a sequel where Amanda continues her search, and finds the Narcissus' signal, which years later allows a salvage crew to track it down. It could be her last gift to her mother.
The title of the mod (and therefore the video) is misleading. There's absolutely nothing "RTX" about this. No raytracing, just planar reflections (which are pretty disturbing) and enhanced shadows for the most part, and these kinds of tweaks were available way before the "creation" of this mod, pretty much weeks after the release of the game. But that shows anyway that this masterpiece still looks amazing.
I love this game. I have it on PS4 and PC. I spanked this game. I just like being on the station. I wish there was UNLOCKABLE infinite ammo. That would be some replay value right there. One of "the best games" of our time. Terrifying.
The mod tool OpenCage makes changing things like ammo, damage, health, and movement speeds very easy almost anyone can do it. I have no prowess when it comes to this kind of stuff but made a bunch of changes.
I would recommend to use "alias isolation" mod for better anti aliasing, for those who can't run it on 4K and above, because in-game AA doesn't work properly.
Honestly, I don't see much difference between this and vanilla (well, except Enhanced Graphics updated anti-aliasing, which is sure a welcome improvement). Really shows what tremendous job the devs did with the lighting and A:I visuals in general. The game turns 10 this year and still looks more beautiful and atmospheric than most modern releases.
Honestly, the visual directing of this game was so brilliant that the RTX mods don't make much of a difference. This is pretty much how I remember the game looking.
I remember this game, it used to look aliased to hell. Couldn't get into it, the jaggies hurt my eyes. No amount of tweaking the aliasing settings at the time made it worthwhile, not from what I tried anyway. This looks nice though. Still see some jaggies and shimmer on light/dark edges though.
This looks insane, lol. I really need to play this finally. I always pick it up and put the disc in, but then I try other games, and it never gets the time of day.
@@Cricket-qd5ri most likely. Honestly it felt like a fluke at the time. Ryan McCaffrey did the review and he just personally had a hard time with the game. I don’t know how that results in giving a mediocre score to a masterpiece.
