That's an example how the alien isn't allowed to attack you immediately despite it saw you. Too frustrating if it was completely realistic and notices a slight movement. You were lucky you got back in time as you were crouched which makes it more difficult. The faster you go the easier it gets as the alien is searching the other rooms
Yes it's a good example of how the Alien is programmed. Some think it just turned its head. But I agree with your idea that the Alien could have hesitated, irrespective of whether you believe it's intended to help the player or whether it is programmed to dislike surprises and prefers only walk into us intentionally. Maybe the Alien AI is very calculating and perhaps a hesitation will allow the Alien a fraction second to reassess its position relative to the player? 🤔
@@addydiesel6627 I heard the alien is supposed to less hesitant when you first pull it out because its never seen fire before but after completing this several times, I can confirm the alien is equally scared of fire at all parts of the game

Sometimes when it just barely sees you it stops and flinches and then stands up straight with it's "nose" in the air as if it's smelling the air to try and find you.

Startle? It's the animation in which the alien stops and looks at different points in front of him. The player wasn't in front of it enough time to detect him, that's all..
