I liked the creative decision at the end as a fan of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. I haven’t seen enough people talk about this. I think Prometheus at the very least should be seen prior to the events of Alien: Romulus.
The movie is the perfect link that has been missing for so long! Especially in the first third, it brilliantly illustrates how the world of Alien, Blade Runner, and others offers endless possibilities for telling exciting stories. Considering that everything started with the theft of a cryo-pod from a Weyland ship, the only question left is: What comes next? Hopefully, we'll finally get a comic adaptation of Earth War and other thrilling titles.
I'm reasonably sure along with the animatronic Xeno, they had a performer in a suit on set too. But if you're still in touch with Alec Gillis, I'm sure he has loads of great Alien stories from his decades working on the franchise
4:12 yeah that “something” CGI felt deliberate to me. It was regrettably uncanny. Spoiler spoilers > > > the use of AI deepfake on the AI character was, to me, a huge mistake. He was damaged, just damage his mouth so we get twisted practical puppet facial performance with the voice box being intact… that would have worked wonders. But no…they opted for deepfaking him.
it's fine I like the boldness. also it wasn't hidden and he was a big part of the story. almost like they HAD to include him. great stuff. I latched this on a Super load IMAX screening wow incredible sound and jump scares
First! (after Chris) Hardcore Alien fan, went last night and it was amazing. This movie is up there with 1 and 2! Edit: Not first, 2nd as a hardcore fan, the ending didn't bother me and the tie to another movie (you haven't watch yet) Fucking creepy, which could easily belong in a Nightmare on elmstreet
this movie wasn't as bad as covenant, and a horror movie this was not. somehow even first AvP movie had more gore... Good visuals and good sound, you could see that they tried to make it look and feel as good as possible and then did nothing with it :/ It is odd, you can pick any torture corn movie and the horror scenes there drag on forever, and in Romulus itsa blink and you missed it >_> it's like watching Rambo getting kitted out with all the guns and knives and all the rest, getting ready to wage war against an army or two.....and then show him flopping in a kiddy pool in the next scene.....meh still, it wasn't as bad as covenant....
Yeah, you DON'T want to see what hardcore Alien fans think of this movie. Because they can't make their minds up. The 'superfans' always hate everything.
Any film that performed by kids and no one should have any expectation to it. So I downloaded the pirate version to watch first rather than directly go to the cinema today. As expected. This is a shit film. I can't feel any terror or horror... the story is too simple..... and as an alien series film. This is just.... unworthy.
The only movies worth watching are the Directors Cuts of Alien and Aliens, and Assembly Cut of 3, though I would splice the theatrical ending to the Assembly Cut.
The implications of the ending is actually quite interesting and ties right into H.R. Giger's work and some of the more interesting bits of the prequels. In my mind it enhances the prequel movies (Prometheus/Covenant) and confirms David as not being the original creator of the Xenomorph and really drives some interesting ideas for future films. I've never liked the idea of xenomorphs just being 'space bugs' . I'd prefer they be part of something bigger/more horrific and this sounds like it opens the door for that. I'll be seeing it tomorrow evening, excited to see if this creature in the 3rd act is what I think it is...If so , hell yeah!
I wish they also somehow confirmed the mummified Space Jockey in the original film isn’t just a humanoid in a suit. Just say the Engineers at some point found some Space Jockey ships and used them for their own purposes, plus modified the carcasses into suits.
I think this film is the best since the original. My expectations were met and more. Nothing pulled me out and “remember berries” felt mostly subtle. Only thing that truly pulled me out was the “get away from her” line. If they ended it where I did it would been fine, but completely the line was a little to on the nose. Otherwise I want to praise the performances of the leads, Practical effects, set design, set prices, cinematography, and sound editing. These things already made it a great film. The tight and quick paced story elevated it even more. I’m so happy they went back to basics. Be, I’m hoping we can begin to steadily move forward and expand the lore. Nothing jarring like the older sequels did or even Prometheus did. Some mystique has to be preserved in order for conversation, theories, and intrigue to continue existing around the franchise. Not everything has to be 100% explained.
I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. I’ve seen every film and read the comics. I honestly felt like this movie was just missing something. The FX were great with the exception of that one thing. I thought that looked good when you are looking at one of the ships monitors. But otherwise it wasn’t that great. It just felt weak. Something was missing. It didn’t hit the mark. It was a fun watch but I was hoping it would blow me away. Especially coming from Fede Alvarez.
Nice to see that it's also your first time watching the Alien movies. I need to get on those too, both Alien and Aliens. Not sure if the other ones are worth watching? Any thoughts?
They are all worth watching really, alot of people will say that Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection aren't good but I always liked them, I love Prometheus, less so Alien Covenant but it does have its fans
Blade Runner is in the Alien Universe too I like to believe Alien, Predator, Blade Runner, Terminator are all in the same Universe Blade Runner is confirmed to be in the same Universe as Alien, the Weyland Corporation in Prometheus eventually combines with the Yutani Corporation and becomes the Weyland-Yutani Corporation we see in Alien, the Weyland Corporation is a competitor to the Tyrell Corporation one makes Synths the other makes Replicants The AVP toyline shows Dutch Schaefer has a cyborg arm cus he was experimented on cus he needed saving from the radiation poisoning from the explosion at the end of Predator Terminator could be in the same Universe cus humans beat SkyNet years before Blade Runner and Alien take place, also the Cyberdyne Systems used in Terminator is similar to the Hyperdyne Systems in Alien and a comic Implies Dutch Schaefer is SkyNets inspiration for the design of the T-800 not William Candy from the deleted scene in Terminator 3
Yeah alot of people call that a fan theory but don't realise Ridley Scott confirmed the Blade Runner and Alien connection, and it's confirmed in the Prometheus blu ray extras that Weyland knew Tyrell, and there is a brief scene in Aliens that mentions captain Dallas worked for Tyrell corporation at some point
@@danielpeckham5520 Well that building they show on a planet in the Alien Romulus trailer when the 2 people talk about leaving remainds me of that wierd shaped building in the original Blade Runner
@@danielpeckham5520 Also in Blade Runner 2049 when Jered Leto's character shows Ryan Gosling the clones the faild early attempts are shown in glass containers and one of them looks like a Engineer from Prometheus and its the Prometheus design not the sub race of Engineers in Alien: Covenant
@@Garrie2976 yes it did look similar the nexus replicant models and the colony in Romulus to Blade Runner looks, also the movie Soldier is connected and part of Blade Runner universe
Blade Runner has never been confirmed to be in the same universe. Ridley Scott saying he thinks the theory is interesting isn’t the same as it being actual canon.
@somersfamily no I dont like 3. As for the first, it was the introduction to a new character we had never seen. We're way past that. Give me what I came for.
I saw Alien (1979) in 2000, when I was 11 years old, back then internet wasn't popular, so I thought Alien (1979) was stand-alone movie. About 2004 I heard about Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. I remember seen 1st AvP movie in theaters, when it came c. 2004, in this series Prometheus I have, but I haven't watched it yet, because I also have Alien: Covenant and everybody says between Prometheus and Covenant, it is Covenant, that is better movie.
i just feel like this movie is one i would only watch on digital not in cinemas like i really dont know what the story was and i wanted to be scared i didn't jump once and not one scene made me grossed out and thats what i went in for the most and i guessed everything that would happen i liked couple of the scenes but i was really dissapointed because i wanted to love the film and i hate saying i didn't but it didn't live up to my excpectations
I’d be interested in how you feel about Prometheus and Covenant. They both have such polarizing opinions form hardcore fans. Personally I love them despite any flaws.
i am a fan... imo they should have left the covenant stuff OUT. scott surely was the master in the shadows. plus ending was a4 re done... homage ok but as finale.. cheap
I don't know, man. Film felt very empty/ very little substace, in my opinion. No plot. YA script with weak characters. The entire film is just regergitating everything that has come before. Has no identity. I think the studio had a big say with most of the film not wanting another "promithius" reaction. (I actually think promithius is a much better film than this)
I ain't readin allat, stress and fear will make you forget all you know. Prometheus is really scary, scarier than the og multiple times, plus it's beautiful, and who doesn't love a giant god killer villain plot @@aaroncadena4097
I kinda liked the simple nature of this though, back to basics, a straightforward plot, away from the Prometheus and Covenant stuff. I really liked Prometheus but to me it was still refreshing to see a proper back to basics Xeno film with some nice callbacks to Prometheus actually without overdoing it
Prometheus was tense, gross, eerie and thought provoking with a great score, effects and cinematography. It just wasn't the real alien movie people were expecting. But it was great in retrospect.
