It would be heavily woke nowadays: "Let the aliens be gay and proud!!!" Yeah I can't agree with you more. although there is a rise of woke people getting fired from their jobs at studio's and the fact that Deadpool and Wolverine made a significant gain out of what they originally paid to create the movie shows studio's that it doesn't always need *tHe MeSsAgE* .
I agree. Looking back at various franchises i now wish they left well alone. Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, just to name a few. Why I’m glad we haven’t had a sequel to Dredd. One fantastic movie, story told, leave it alone. And at times, very rarely do we actually get a worthy sequel that expands on the original classic without pissing on it, Blade Runner 2049.
Fun fact the producers of this movie were originally going to make a halo movie but scrapped the idea and made this movie instead. Most of the weapons were painted over when they scrapped halo and a lot of the weapons and ideas in the movie were from the original halo movie that never came to be. Every time the prawn throws that grenade the blast always reminds me of the sticky grenade from the halo games
Totally awesome scene. Christopher's reaction after he fired the lightning gun makes me laugh every time. The special effects of him jumping on the desk were right on and made him seem pretty gangster. The scene with the tank suit where he launches the pig is priceless.
If only Blomkamp had been able to do a sequel to District 9 …. This was such a brilliant film, good script, dark humour and brilliantly executed in terms of cinematography and FX!
I remember seeing this in theaters and all the trailers that led up to it were so ambiguous I had no clue what this movie was going to be about besides that there were aliens living with humans. I love how it turned out and the twists along the way also the VFX and CGI are amazing they still hold up to today’s standards.
The closet to a movie set in the Half Life video game universe. The weapons, tech and atmosphere screams Half Life 2, love it. 6:48 after he smashes the glass, the little beeping noise sounds like it came out of Half Life.
He wasn't a reporter, he was part of the government agency policing, evicting, relocating, and generally harassing the prawns. He was being filmed for a news report in the beginning though, and we had the news-camera view for the first half (I forget how long tbh, cos it's been a while since I've watched it.
This movie is so unique. Had that documentary and half life feeling to it, the aliens being similar to humans when their chain of command is lost, and the pacing was good. There were a lot of cool ideas in this that just mixed up so well, almost wish it was a series
@@АлексейКисилев-д3чthese types of comments piss me off, you’re acting like a random basically indie director is gonna fall into the supposed “”apocalypse of woke propaganda”” when the most “”woke”” thing they’re probably gonna do is make a female character it is NOT this deep. But nah we need a reason to hate on LGBTQ no matter how bullshit it is😭🙏🔥💯
This is such a great movie for so many reasons… but he really should have emotionally prepared Christopher for what he might see in there before they went in.
well wickus said he didn't know about the experiments but i wonder if that's a lie as he didn't seem too shocked when he went down there just saying "don't worry about it"
What always made me laugh about this scene is Christopher can clearly use the guns with no trouble and use them properly. Wikus seems only able to use or only wants to use the "special attack" mode on his rifle and abuses the auto-tracking lightning blast.
@4:38 when Christopher looses a few bursts of suppressing fire, I always got the impression that while he knew HOW his species' weaponry worked, he wasn't exactly a trained soldier. He's clearly extremely intelligent and knowledgeable about his species' technology and piloting (making things like biofuel, bombs, and computers with scavenged parts), but the way he just kinda rides the gun's recoil without controlling it seems very much so like a "I know how to use this technology because I grew up seeing it, but I didn't necessarily train with it". I always thought that was really clever though, to highlight just how the alien's weaponry helped them "even the odds"; because by themselves, they'd be no match; but as you said, with auto lock-on lightning, explosives that can bust through 2 feet of concrete, and giant war mechs, they really did manage to pull through haha.
@@sarcasticguy4311 Woah, that's cool! And I don't believe it's intentional (although I wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional) but it kinda matches their personalities too. Christopher is very deliberate and conscientious, so his gun fires accurate little bursts because he tries his best to limit the amount of carnage he does and tries not to take any unnecessary lives. Wikus on the other hand is going berserk and just lashing out at everything he sees, so his gun reflects that by just auto-locking on anything with a pulse and exploding them into chunks.
@@LordSeethe Yes, I think it's easy to forget that Wikus is probably in considerable pain for half the movie and it's getting worse and he's trying to keep a semi-cool head while most of this is going on.
It's absolutely criminal they never made a sequel or anything else related to D9. This was such a fantastic story with amazing visuals. The sci-fi tech was so much fun to watch and see on-screen. The "Zappp-splats" were so freakin bad@ss.
2:31..the best "holy shit" ever..😂😂😂...read some trivia that the actor didn't know how powerful the air cannon was so when it fired and the stuntman was blasted through the wall the "holy shit" was the actor's genuine reaction 😂😂😂
I don’t think people quite understand how fucking insane District 9 and Elysium were back in the day. Transformers was all the rage at the time, but man. This movie had some of the best cgi I’ve ever scene in a movie before. Plus the cinematography? *Chef’s Kiss* 👨🏽🍳
You know what always grinded my gears about this scene? The fact that an African militia soldier had an Red Tailed Boa as a pet, a species from Central and South America.
The graphics in this movie were phenomenal. And I always wished and dreamed that the director and producer would get back together and make a Gears of War series. They could pull it off and it would be kick ass
I couldn't eat shrimp or prawn for a year after watching this movie for the first time. Such a great film. I should revisit it, since it's been a while since I've last watched this.
It took me like 10 watch throughs to notice 3 very important parts of this movie. The first were the analogies drawn compared to apartheid. The second was the human characters showing the aliens empathy and the aliens like Christopher showing a human empathy and compassion, despite being two completely different species that were raised billions of light years from eachother. The last is what you make of it. The same stuff that powers the prawns spacecrafts can also biologically mutate a human being, as if the fuel has a dual purpose as a seeding device for terraforming worlds. That means there is a possibility that the prawns did not come to Earth with peaceful intentions. The fact that Blomkamp left that part ambigious is one of the reasons that makes the movie so fantastic.
This may be one of the most overlooked and underrated movies in a long time, the story the characters everything is awesome, culminating with the raid on mnu which is so action packed and exciting, excellent movie.
This is the most trivial of nitpicks, but I'm pretty sure someone in IT would have cancelled Wikus's access code and fingerprint authorisation the moment they decided to harvest his ass. I say this with love though this is 1000% my favourite movie of all time
Yeah, i could understand the code still working, might be reused by another person. But the prints even though he was supposed to have died shouldn't take more than a week to reset at most for a secure facility.
@samfrancisco8095 This is a secure facility. And a basic procedure not being followed. It's not about expecting the unexpected, someone didn't do their job.
Such a great movie with such an interesting concept I’d love to see more of this world but the movie is a complete story it would need to be something else
