Alien RPG system is based on Year Zero Engine which was developed initially for Mutant: Year Zero

If you want to see it being played, Glass Cannon Network has some Actual Plays of it up on their channel. It really looks like a really good system and a blast to play.

As a 5e DM, playing the Alien RPG 3 times, it helped me really become a better DM. We actually ran the Alien RPG on Fables D20 around a table, and not over zoom, hooked up colored lights, and did a lot of alien isolation sound effects, it was one of our most exciting games ever. If you're ever in LA, we'd love to run an Alien Oneshot for you 💪

Alien is a great system to run. The stress mechanics really push the players to create situations for themselves. I've had a lot of fun running it.

When I came across this RPG I was coincidently thinking about what system would work best to homebrew a RPG set in the Metroid universe. This checked all the boxes and more. The Year Zero System is a really good system, I have been fond of it since reading about it.

I bought a broken copy of this for super cheap, but it didn't come with the campaign book which was the reason I bought it to begin with 😂

I've run an Aliens: Colonial Marines cinematic scenario three times, and even wearing their body armor, and carrying pulse rifles, that scenario has a 33% PC mortality rate (and NPCs fare even worse). It's didn't go well under the atmospheric processors on LV-426, and it rarely goes much better on the table top.

I bought a Free League book from Exalted Funeral a while back, and then emailed them asking if it's possible to get a PDF after purchasing a physical book from an independent online retailer. The answer that I got was that you get a free PDF if you purchase a physical book from an LGS that participates in their program. Very frustrating to me, since I don't think there's a store nearby that carries their products - only one game shop I've been to in my area even has a significant selection of RPGs. That said, I strongly doubt they'd give PDFs to people who purchased on Amazon, since they won't even let independent websites participate.

Have yet to try it when Im in a sci fi horror mood. Hope you gonna review the Dragonbane starter set as well! Also from Free League and excellent for Solo, Co-op and standard G.M+ Group play. New bestiary and updated rule books + standees are releasing this spring BTW!

I've played a game of this at PAX Unplugged 2022. I feel like it is fantastic for a one shot. I don't think it would work well as a campaign game.

You'll probably not get the pdf if you only had an Amazon order, given Amazon takes a cut and you could return the order and they would loose money

Bought the core rule book and The Chariots of the Gods source book when it first came out. Couldn't make head nor sense of it. Tried asking Free League questions becasue I couldn't understand the player creation. They just didn't seem to want to help. So I chucked it on the side and haven't touched it since.

It probably is, but at the time I couldn't understand it. There were supposed to be pregens in the chariots of the gods book, but what there actually were was just concepts, almost just NPC stats. I contacted Free League, and they just pointed me at the same information I had. I tried, and got fed up, and lost interest.

Nope. My method is, I look at a completed sheet. And if I can easily replicate it and understand it following the rules, Good. But when there was no example at the time, and the publisher couldn't help. It got shelved. It might be the best game ever, but I got frustraited with it because I asked for help from the source and I honestly think at that time, they were just looking to get it on the shelf, and there was no support. To date, Aliens and Lex Occultum are the only two RPG's I've given up on.

I would gladly pay 50 for a starter aet like this than 25 for the crap WotC puts out which is a box thats half air. WotC needs to take a lesson from some of these other companies on how to to a starter set right.

Ah i see you are catching up to me on showing off starter sets / beginner boxes. Edit : You are about 1/4th of the way to catching up to me ( i just checked to see how many Starter sets you have covered & how many i have covered ).
