I recently picked up a new copy of "Possessed". I've picked up so many records lately that I have not listened yet. As you know I have two others. I got into it by accident and never really dug in to learn more about the band. This is a really excellent review of them. I need to check out those earlier ones.
Cool video Rich. They were one of the bands in the eighties that I never really heard much of on terrestrial radio but still had a solid fan base. I have only heard one album. Well done ~ Rob/Boston
Nice review Richie really enjoy your views. The reason the drums sound boxlike on Maximum Security is because it's all a basic drum machine as I had left the band in between Acid Bath and this.
@@damiengallegos4980 I got sick of Nik Fiend's violent tantrums in front of promoters and record company bods, I thought the demos we did for Maximum Security were utter shit, (we were exhausted and were being pressured to record new stuff), I still think Maximum Security is largely crap and monotonous. I'm actually glad I wasn't associated with it or indeed that stupid article depicting a fake plastic fly sitting on a fake plastic turd and called Smells Like Shit, how cutting edge and radical eh?. And something Ratti will attest to also, I don't think Nik wanted to move out of being an underground cult hero, he seemed to shrink back from major exposure, understandable to some degree as he was always at the front. I just think given a holiday, we could have become much bigger and more diverse.
@@Johnniehaha I completely understand that. I fully understand the boring maximum security e.p. I thought it was ok at the time. I'm 45 years old now and my first ever alien sex fiend video tape was overdose ' I was on acid at the time basically around 1992' my high school graduation year ' but, after watching overdose i was hooked. After searching for more video tapes of Alien Sex Fiend , i discovered A purple glistener ' the whole thing about these two video tapes.... it took me further into craving everything I can get my fingers on. And basically Edit was a beautiful one as well. After searching for more and more I had every titled album in my collection. Lips can't go ' is the best track I've ever heard up to this present date. I'm also working with my equipment to record it as a cover to the best of my ability. My machines are definitely quality sound machines. But , everything I'm working with is a tascam portastudio 424 .... 4 track. But, to honestly say that the best version of lips can't go ' is on a purple glistener. Mrs. Fiend is really working on the sound with a simple drum stick. I don't know what she was tapping on but, it was something that intensified each effect of the melody. And Nik as well, his voice was extremely perfect. Again, I have so many questions for you, ..... but, patience on anything I need to know is right here. Johnnie Ha Ha .... I found a diamond in the rough ' by the way I watched every unreleased image of you all before alien sex fiend was in full bloom. You all look so lovely in London. So young and extremely rare. Again, Thank You for being there because I cannot find anything on footage from alien sex fiend in a documentary or interviews. If you happen to have anything else that would be a rare interview or anything..... I'd love it to death ' Damien Gallegos.... oh yeah just to let you know.... My performance name is Shipping Mouth .... Ha ha
I enjoyed this although not really familiar with them. The second album sounds like something I'd like to investigate. Pretty cool cover art for most of their release. From the way you described their albums it sounds like it's best to start at the beginning?
First time I've heard of ASF was back in 1994.... I borrowed a friend mix tape included Concrete Blonde/Jonestown, Split Second/Crash Course Seduction, Ministry/You Know What You Are and Skinny Puppy/Killing Game..... I fucking loved it from the start. I owned the reissues of Acid Bath and Whos Been Spleeing. I just picked up Impossible Mission MINI original on a record show down here. cheers bro JC/Miami
Nice overview! I don't think I've ever seen anyone shown so much ASF in one sitting. I only have a few of their early album and haven't ventured out of anything from the 80's
Keep up the collecting-after some cd only albums they’ve done a few more on vinyl which are well worth a listen. One of only a small number of artists who I’ve stuck with over the years. Each album is very different but with some common elements and themes.
13:12 shout out to Skinny Puppy! This man knows his shit. Awesome video. Brilliant taste in music. Do you have a Skinny Puppy collection as well? Would love to see a video of that!
Alien Sex Fiend with a Hakuna Matata shirt on LOL. Love it. I adore ASF. I don't have alot of their stuff but I do keep my eyes peeled all the time. You have a great collection! They have great LP cover art.
I thought it would be a bit funny to do this with my new Lion King shirt. When I did my Madonna vinyl collection I remember I was wearing my Cockney Rejects shirt.
Cool band that I feel kind of bad for not checking out quite enough. Will definitely have to go for a hunt for some of these! Thanks for the walk-through! Cheers
Great video (and great shirt!) - I just picked up the Los Aspiradoras album Mil Punaladas that i believe you mentioned in a previous video - great suggestion! Love finding new music! Northern New Jersey loves ya :)
Thanks for sharing. ASF is one of those bands I have never gave a proper listen to. I've only heard a handful of songs. Now I have an idea where to start... I never found used ones in the bins in the 90s, ... unlike Ministry, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, and Throbbing Gristle.
I don't think I've heard any of their full albums. I'll have to keep my eye out for those early ones. I'm also interested in hearing that turd just for reference. Cool collection for sure.
Alien Sex Fiend have been pigeonholed for way to long the band are way to interesting to be stuck in the goth box they remind me more of The Cramps meets Alice Cooper in a psychedelic electronic freak out than The Sisters Of Mercy etc GREAT VIDEO
Nice collection, I knew nothing about these guys at all. Something happened in the 80s with drums being recorded too loud. Talking of punk bands, have you heard of the UK band The Cardiacs?
This was excellent Richie. It's interesting you kept collecting the band even though they sound like they were getting gradually worse as they went along. Although it does sound like their good songs were still great enough to merit owning the LPs, despite the occasional turds. Another Planet sounds like a return to form. I have had bands I followed religiously until a point and then stopped, despite the fact they released loads more records. It might be interesting to see what some of the later stuff is like. Great comprehensive video- loved the naughty ending....
I thought for sure I had an Alien Sex Fiend album but it appears I don't. I have them on various goth and industrial compilations. They are not a band for everyone. I did enjoy the whole industrial movement. I did not like hair metal of the 80s but I thought groups like Alien Sex Fiend were good due to it being something really different. Nice spotlight, I enjoyed this. I like that you wear a Lion King shirt talking about Alien Sex Fiend! Also good to know Nick Fiend was not a Bob Dylan. Steve
Being an Ex Fiend drummer/guitarist this little over view is ok.. But way off the mark on some information discussed here, I was on three of the here cum germs tracks album not on isolation. You also missing the most popular album to hit the USA.. Curse was very popular album with many sold out shows across the county. Open Head Surgery again was hugely popular too, you are missing out on two other popular live albums Too Much Acid and The Altered States of America.. . Maybe you should have took time out to do a bit more homework eh. 😉.
@@samuelblinne6040 I don't mean to sound like a dumb ass but do you check when they played a venue or do you look up the flyer. I'm interested because I have a number of flyers that I'm not certain of the exact year.
Hey Pat, nice work. Great drummer name for ASF. This video was worth it just to hear you say 'Turd' repeatedly. Agree with you on the artwork - they really have their own aesthetic going on. Rather pointed ending....
