She did the smart and sensible thing by finishing the facehugger off instead of getting too close to it. You don't see a lot of that in horror films lol.
@@88feji Good point. Though normally the aliens seem able to tell a human from an android - yet this hugger didn't know the dog was android... So does that make the dog a different type of android (so the aliens do not know they're not biological?), or is the face hugger a different type (and so may not have the ability to sense the differences?)
@@ryogahibiki2384 it may be more the dog than the hugger, it was doing it’s job being a threat to the hugger so the hugger had to avoid it, but failed to do so because the dog was good at it’s job.
@@88feji cuz the blood isnt splied when she slaps the hugger with the shovel, also its not much blood it gets, its potent acid but not so potent it turns a shovel into dust in an instant.
This one is definitely my favourite short film. Finally an alien film where not everyone is like „oh no. It’s alien. Let’s protect it.“ And I love the womans pragmatism at the end. Just give it another hit with the shovel to make sure that what should be dead, stays dead. 👍
Of course, someone had to put the egg in that barrel. So there's still some "Let's breed us some monsters" shenanigans going on somewhere. Just not from any of the characters in the film.
I personally really liked it. I especially like the big reveal of how Maggie (Goose, who did great job too) was actually an canine android assistant. It’s interesting and I’m not sure if they exist in the official franchise so I really enjoyed the personal touches.
Oh thats why the Dog looked like it did after the attack. It was a cyborg dog. Lol. If that the case, fat dude shouldn't be asking what happened, should of already known.
Lol thank u!! I was wondering why the dog was covered in that white liquid and twitching. I thought maybe it was the acid from the facehugger and it was causing her to die a painful death. 😳😳😳
As a huge aliens fan, this was 10/10. Acting was great, the drama was great, ambience, the music, tension and the suprise near the end. Amazing work, please take on the next Aliens film !
I just wish that when she dispatched the face hugger with the shovel, the shovel blade would have started smoking and melting immediately. This film goes out of its way to establish that xeno acid: bad and then she straight up bisects the dang thing and wow the shovel is fine. That's my only gripe.
The dog android twist was outstanding. "Here at Weyland-Yutani, we believe our pets are family, too." Carter Burke - Spokesman Weyland-Yutani: Building Better Pets
This was excellent. I genuine convinced myself at the end as she killed the facehugger, that it was going to cheap out and ...oh look another one you didn't see behind you. Thank you for not doing that... but damn, the dog was an Android! Knowing how that was not going to be good for the dog once it started chewing away on it. I was expecting to see a molten bloodied mess. 10/10.
Excellent work, Kelsey. You found an original angle in an already established (and sometimes jaded) storyline. This is not an easy task. Even though I am already familiar with the alien universe, you still expertly crafted a slow burn that kept me dialed in. I saw the original Alien when it opened in theaters. Honestly, your short is at the level of that film’s suspense; as when Brett goes searching for the missing cat. Your cinematographer also did an outstanding job. Thanks for posting.
When a short is directed better and more suspenseful then a high budget movie. Bring Alien back to this level and the original Alien and Alien Isolation. Aliens is good, but I love when the Xenomorph is portrayed as a almost unkillable Apex predator and not a mindless drone.
Well that's just the thing the xenomorph who I'll just call alien for simplicity are based of termites and the operates like em if you go watch aliens they send 1 to scout out an area to feed then the army comes and kills everyone like termites but here's the kicker when termites are alone they actually act like in alien were it's sneaky and targets people it KNOWS it can KILL and kills them
This excellent short shows that true horror is more about what you don't see than what you do. Hollywood doesn't understand that the reason the original alien is as good today as it was when it was made was because of the tension and anticipation built up during the movie rather than reliance on huge and expensive special effects. We don't need to see anything. Remember how much scarier Jaws was before you actually saw the shark ? It's is the actors who can make us feel as if we are there that make or break the realism we feel or not.
@@adambridge8920 sadly the first Alien is quite boring, the Crown jewel of the Alien franchise is the second Movie Third is decent, way better then first, the fourth however is quite shite
Fan-made in association with 20th Century FOX & Tongal celebrating the 40th anniversary of 'Alien'. There are 6-shorts... Alien: Containment, Alien: Specimen, Alien: Nightshift, Alien: Ore, Alien: Harvest and Alien: Alone. Each were created by the winners of a competition run by Tongal to select the 6-best fan pitches for the project.
I don’t understand the surprise. Both the horror and sci-fi genre have always had strong female characters. This has never been more true than in the Alien franchise.
Acid effects on the dog could have been better, but overall, this blows the latest movie out of the airlock. Pretty solid. Would love to see something like this as a full length film. The lead was fantastic. She is what the fans of this franchise deserve as a main hero.
It’s not acid, the dog was a dogoïd (need word XD). Hints are the white liquid, the « did a good job », and the fact that she’s not emotive about the dog. (my view)
Just gotta be fast enough to react and have something to bat it away with. Being a creepy crawly with eight legs better to have a shovel like she did for a larger bapping surface!
That was terrific, had me on the edge of my seat with adrenaline going. These short films are the creepiest I've seen since Alien back in 1979. That's my all-time favourite movie so I'm not saying that lightly. :)
The synth dog was actually a really cool twist I’m surprised hasn’t been used more often outside the comics. Pretty sure though that all synths, human, animal whatever are supposed to have Lance Henrikssens face.
One mistake....the facehugger acid didnt burn thru the floor. But overall, this was good. Loved how she instinctively batted 1000 when it jumped at her😂
The lead is so good! Way more believable as all those watered down hollywood heroes. I want more of her. I would totally watch a full lenght movie with that setup
Specimen is the best short so far. Really well put together and executed - tension and mystery was spot on. Loved the greenhouse/ hydroponics setting and lead actress. Gardening implements used with deadly force! Great stuff. Thanks.
@@AlienAnthology That's fine, it's more my opinion than review, but I do think it's by far the best short from this Anthology project. The editing, camera set-ups, lighting, hair + make-up and effects created a high quality feel, worthy of a theatrical screening. I really liked the work day/ music sequence, it grounded the character in reality and made her "one of us". We've all played our iPod's too loudly and missed the phone ringing or the postman knocking on the door. The director has a very good eye for pacing and aesthetics. If I were at Fox, I'd hire her in a second (for a feature project).
I just bumped into this. Very, very well done! I kept wondering why the dog had not been attacked by the facehugger. That was some nice twist. Oh, and Julie not only has great reflexes, she is smart! I've saved the rest of these short movies to watch them all. :)
This was amazing!! Everything was perfect! The timing was good and it was nice to see the true roots of what Alien was for fans when it originally came out. I loved it very much.
You know what? Of all those Anthology shorts, this was by far the best because this was a new idea, nothing that was already there. You actually added something to the franchise that wasn't there before instead of recycling something into something "new". Also: poor but brave dog, hopefully the dog will get a correct repair.
Really enjoyed the cinematography, aesthetic and performances in this. Of the shorts, its one of the more original and professional (it barely looks like a fan film). I do think there's a pacing issue, whilst Alien is all about suspense, the first 6 minutes start to really drag (and I say that as a fan of Alien 3 lol). Overall, I love the idea of the facehugger alone being a threat. And with the isolation, this feels like what ORE tried to achieve but failed at.
That was fantastic mini. The acting, the atmosphere just nails it. I’m still looking forward to the reincarnation of the franchise. And this short film is a good example on how to do it.
I absolutely LOVE Dobies! My mom was gifted a Dobie pup (later named Samantha, "Sam") and she was THE best dog we've ever been owned by! Don't laugh, but one thing that made her so great was the fact that she was raised by our CATS! She was even seen out crouching and hunting a bird just like the cats, with the cats!! I haven't had one in YEARS, and can't wait til I have room enough to have another "Sam"!
Best anthology film I’ve seen yet. suspense was built really well alarms and background noises were great lighting great someone should give you a budget to develope this into the next blockbuster. The steam with the industrial echo fading noise perfect alien nostalgia just need a incessant bleeping that denotes your imminent doom. Brilliant just Brilliant
Well done. Original, excellent sound prod., great cinematography, acting (lead) spot on, and who doesn't love a hero dog.....even if it is a synthetic?
Danny van Veldhoven I’d rather no one tamper with anything right now. Cause from what I suspect we are looking at a possible reboot copy like that they did with Terminator: Dark Fate. Just pretend 2,3 & 4 didn’t exist and make it worse
As a huge alien fan I have to say that this 10 minute fan film has more about it than all the multi million pound alien films since alien 3 have put together. Not since Alien 3 have I felt that sense of claustrophobia, entrapment, suspense and actual fear. Well done to whoever made and directed this absolutely top marks. Well done to the actors as well for conveying the suspense.
When the girl called the dog Doberman, she reminded me of Alien the Eighth passenger, where the actor, Harry Dean Stanton goes to look for the Cat, kitty kitty kitty ..! and he stops in the boiler, takes off his Cap, and wets his head with the water that fell from above, seconds later, to Harry Dean Stanton, the Alien Kills him. greetings from Argentina.
Terrific film!!!! The lead actress was phenomenal!!! Great cinematography and the direction and sound was on point! Great job!!! Sad that the theatrical films are trash now. These fan made short films are so much better.
it was quite unrealistic though , no person would call their dog just twice and then stay silent for the sake of the movie ... and no robot dog would disobey and behave like a real animal
@@velociraptorwolf447 so true. Alien is something nightmares are made of...Giger and his art creations, Alien is pure Horror, they need to bring it back
Mmm, agreed but also humour - Alien had the " us and them " (officers vs flunkies) different worlds of the crew joking with each other - the repairmen claiming not to be able to solve ship issues to Ripley without getting what they deserve...when she walks off, the dinner table talk, etc. With Aliens there was deadpan Bishop lines (not limited to: "I may be synthetic but i'm not stupid"), the macho bravado among the marines (" Have you ever been mistaken for a man? ", the knife fillet trick, Hudson in most scenes etc). With Covenant I only laughed at the points when the characters were behaving stupidly which I don't think was the intention, but with the humour from Alien and Aliens I think the audience was meant to appreciate the humour. The unintended covenant humour peaked at the shotgun woman blowing up their own landing ship, but there were other examples - being an exploratory group, yet having no environmental protection or prior assessments (that obviously led to the infections in Covenant), the hapless "I don't trust you, but i'll follow you blindly down into the dark depths to my (facehugger unduced) death" etc.
WHY am I just now seeing this ??? I have been a lover of the alien series since the beginning!!! No one could have done this better than Sigourney Weaver!!! I’ve always wished there was more to watch!! Thank you! Thank you!👌
How are the shorts better than the latest movies? Just shows we COULD still be getting good Alien spinoffs....why why why why why.....Hollywood you incompetent schmucks.
Hollywood is more focused on pushing out PC propaganda than putting out a good story. Liberals is like aids anything they touch end up suffering a slow and horrible death.
it not so easy ... star actors ... star director ... beat CGI effects ... movie budget in lvl of small country GDP how could Hollywood even function in such dreadful condition :)
On top of the agenda-driven politics, Hollywood is also risk averse and won't go out on a limb to create something new. They depend on rehashing old material that is familiar to attract audiences but often at the expense of creativity. I think there is also something to be said about how low budget films must rely on a good story to compensate for low budget special effects where as the default Hollywood big-budget film relies on good special effects in lieu of good story/characters because it is easier to throw money at the digital effects department than it is to write a competent script.
This is very much in keeping with the original film. The tension and lighting were excellent but the acting lifted it that bit more. Nice twist at the end.
