Practical effects will always be superior. Just finding ways to create models, creatures, making a soundstage look like you are outside (the dispersal when the Marines get out of the tank and its raining…a set with a grey painted background, and a guy with a sprinkler above them. Genius) So creative with what they had to work with, and how much $$ they had to work with!
@Little-Larry777
@Little-Larry777 4 месяца назад
@@ChrisS-no3ft I agree and not only will these effects always be superior, imo it takes more ingenuity, creativity and overall ability (i.e. technical expertise in cameras/lenses, mechanical engineering, etc.) to pull them off well.

YEs, I saw it back then. Back then people had no idea how an alien was supposed to look, and the way it was filmed made it unclear what we were looking at. This made it more mysterious and scarier. When people see it today, they likely have already seen an alien, as it has become so prominent in pop culture, so they may already have an idea of how it looks. So the scenes seem less mysterious.

Both arguments are legit. Both films are phenomenal. Cant spoil here. She’s watching it next. I LOVE Aliens. But when I go back and watch Alien again, I’m like “my gosh this film is amazing”. They are so different in tone and style, its hard to compare them. Star Trek The Motion Picture was an epic slow-moving film with a mystery plot, while Star Trek 2 is an emotional rollercoaster with a different look and tone. You can’t compare them. With this franchise, it really is personal preference I think, but everyone’s opinion is their own, and I can’t wait to see Kahla’s reaction to Aliens to get her take!

"It's got a great defense mechanism... you don't dare kill it..." Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it. The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy. Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell. Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash (Ian Holm) autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights. Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay on how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

I saw "Alien" on opening day - without any idea of what it was about other than it was a Sci Fi movie of some sort. I can't even describe the shockwave that went through the theater when the big scene 55 minutes into the film occurred. I'm so thankful I saw the movie on opening day which was a Friday, because by Sunday it seemed like EVERYBODY knew what was coming because nobody could keep their mouths shut. Hehe. As for "Aliens", it is one of the best sequels to any movie period. And the reason it works so well is because the first movie was treated like a horror movie. The sequel is treated like an action movie. And that is where Hollywood should have learned its lesson - because it was never that good again. Hey, there is only so much you could do with that creature so it was beating a dead horse alright. So I say just watch the first two and just stop. Great reaction btw.

Everyone has the same reaction to Kanes' scientific curiosity. Without scientific knowledge we would still be in caves. No one ever called Madame Curie stupid or ridiculous. "Alien": A youngster is boarding the "Nostromo." What will she make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? I saw "Alien" in the same ex-Cinerama theater where I'd seen "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968) and "Star Wars" (1977). The newspaper and TV ads said only: "In space no one can hear you scream." What kind of movie was this? This was a ground-breaking movie, SF/Horror with a commanding female protagonist, newcomer Sigourney Weaver as Third Officer Ripley. At certain points of this movie, I wondered if any of the crew would survive this "space ship with a dangerous monster loose" movie!;) 8:51 This conversation has become iconic "due to recent events." 9:30 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for decades. 10:33 Acid Blood solved a script problem. 16:32 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years.

Great reaction. Human curiosity is powerful and is what separates us from the rest of the species on the planet. Despite the dangers of investigating electricity people like Nicola Tesla and Michael Faraday continued to experiment with the nature of electricity to find out how to control and use it. If it weren't for the explorers taking risks the country you live in would not have been discovered and the equipment you are using to make this reaction would never exist. I'm English and know that we haven't always got things right, but we learn from our mistakes and move forward. This is why we investigate, and those who just settle for status quo are still drinking filthy water.

And as a lifelong sci Fi fan (especially a Star Trek and Star Wars fan), I'd have to say Trek 2 is arguably one of the best in that franchise because it's good as a standalone film, plus it's not connected to the previous film in the series and there is enough dialogue which explains what happened previously so anyone who is watching won't be lost. More importantly, it's a good, fun movie with lots of twists and surprises till the end.

I heard Louis Gossett Jr. died today, and I had an idea for a movie that would be fun to see you react to that would honor his passing. It's the 1985 science fiction drama movie Enemy Mine, if that's OKay? It's about a human and an alien whose races are at war and crash land on a hostile planet. I would say: this is my all time favorite movie , and believe me: i saw a lot of movies. For me its pure art. Ironicly this lies into my family.. my uncle saw Alien when it came out in the movie theaters. I t was in hungary, where the title was different - they called it : ''The 8th passenger is: death'' because the crew was 7 members. My uncle also loved that movie that much - that because of the title, he went to the movie theaters 8 times to saw this movie. He never did such a thing with another movie - not before - not after. In my opinion the sequels are by ar not as good, as the first one. But in terms of modern action, the sequels are maybe even better. But in terms of movie art, this one is much better.

I just discovered your channel and look forward to more. I really wish you had watched the director's cut, much more intense AND you would have found out what the alien did with their bodies! BE SURE TO WATCH THE DIRECTOR'S CUT OF ALIENS! The studio made James Cameron cut around 45 minuets of film because they wanted 5 shows a day instead of 4. More shows means more ticket sales faster but if they had left it alone it would have made more because it was so damn good more people would have seen it multiple times.

It was his order to get the thing. right before they left, the other officer got replaced by Ash. So, whoever gave the orders knew they were sending them all to their deaths and to see what they could learn.
