Seems similar to the "Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction" on PS2. I play "Aliens Fire Team Elite" on the Xbox 1 occasionally. There are times where I'll hit it hard, then stop for awhile. Happy to hear about the add on coming in August.
AvP Extinction was surprisingly a pretty fun game considering at the time RTS's didn't play very well on console then. Here's hoping Dark Descent will be at least decent.
A continuation of the Alien isolation games would have been welcome but as a fan of the x com games i love the idea of this and look forward to what the developers can bring to the table
Good video. I also especially enjoyed your retrospective review of Prometheus 10 years on. Keep doing what you're doing. Your content, delivery and analysis are spot on and keep me coming back
Yeah, I'd love either Alien Isolation 2 or another game set in the Alien universe with survival horror mechanics. I realize that action shooters probably make more money than survival horror games, but the Alien movies excel at horror and the games should do the same IMHO.
Agreed. A top tier Aliens RTS would be excellent considering AvP Extinction was made when the RTS genre wasn't all that great on console at the time due to cumbersome controls and such.
@@SludgeMan90 IK top down games can be really fun. I just think it’s the wrong franchise to do it. The trailer looks amazing, but that gameplay at the ends… *Sorry but I lost interest*
I’m definitely interested, more Aliens games are a plus for me, I’m just hoping that this game is well-developed, fun to play, and has good single player content. I’ve always wanted a strategy-esque game set in the Aliens universe and I hope this game can deliver. Though, I guess if I have something to wish for, I’m personally wishing for a new game where you play as the Xenomorph. Either something similar to AVP 2010, or something where you control an entire hive and build your infestation and defend against Marines or Weyland, essentially like the Zerg from StarCraft.
@@Silphion I'm hoping this game will open the door for an Extinction reboot, or maybe they'll just branch off with this title for all the factions. Extinction is a great hidden gem
Have really loved playing Aliens Fire Team Elite! Would be awesome to see some lore videos that the game explores, like the UPP, Three World Empire, Hoenniker, Pala Station, Frontier Wars, the different corporation, and the weapons in that game. Crazy how much lore they pack into that game.
I find the introduction of a sanity mechanic to be quite interesting for an Aliens game; the last game I recall where sanity could cripple or benefit your team would be The Darkest Dungeon. This, combined with an isometric view similar to Valve's Alien Swarm, could lead to some tense and clutch moments =)
They had a cool fear mechanic for the thing game for ps2 as well...u led a squad of soldiers and was responsible for their health and mental health as well...it was cool to see your squad developing paranoia in the tense atmosphere and if left unchecked they could turn on you midfight with thing creatures or in a dark corridor!!!
Wait. It's called "Dark Descent" and theres a sanity mechanic? Well I suppose if they're ripping off Amnesia that blatantly then it will probably at least be good.
I picked up fireteam a few weeks ago and love it. I jump on to hit the daily missions and then can get on with my evening. The developers definitely have a passion and appreciation for the alien franchise. It's good fun as an Alien fan.
I love it as a pick up and play a few missions game, but it gets SOOOO much better when you can get a coordinated team of friends to tackle the harder difficulties. Insane is just that... insane. It's very, very challenging but so rewarding. Took us like a week of playing 3-4 hours a night to finally complete it and we had a total blast. It's hard, but perfectly balanced ; if you have the best builds and weapons and class combo, of course... can't just get in there on insane with 3 demos lol.
I hope Dark Descent has a mode where you can play as the Xenomorphs that they have yet to announce. Also I’m excited for the new campaign for Fireteam Elite, the Neomorphs we’re a very interesting addition for the franchise.
I do enjoy isometric RPGs and similar games, so Dark Descent might be something for me. Certainly keeping an eye out what kind of game we eventually get.
If you really want this game to succeed, you should be glad it's not coming to the Switch. We've reached the point where making versions for last gen systems is really starting to hold games back, and it's crippling development. I realize this is cutting out a large number of people who still haven't gotten new consoles (I still don't have either), but it is absolutely best for this game, and any decently budgeted games going forward. Love this channel, btw.
Plus the Switch runs on an Nvidia SoC/APU while PS5/Xbox Series X run on an AMD based APU with Zen2 CPU cores and RDNA2 graphical CUs, so including development for the switch, which is drastically underpowered compared to the PS5/Xbox, is not that simple and definitely holds the game back as much as including compatibility with the PS4
I understand the desire to ditch last gen consoles, but it doesn't help when companies like Sony allowed scalpers to buy up all PS5 stocks, & they are ridiculously slow & lazy to get enough available.
Oh, enough of this bs - 'last gen' isn't holding back anything. How about they start to care and make actually good games. Fireteam is absolute crap with no atmosphere (not even the soundtrack was remotely adequate), atrocious AI and at least as boring as Colonial Marines with a ton of core similarities, the last good game was and still is Isolation and this was released in 2014. At this point, the only thing that is holding back a good Aliens game are the suits and developers behind it.
I hadn't seen the reveal trailer until this, but as I was watching I began to wonder, "Wait, could this be Alien Swarm, except Aliens™ Swarm?" - and then the actual gameplay screenshots at the end almost clinch it. I really hope that this turns out to be a well-executed and expanded version of Alien Swarm in the Alien setting; I loved that game back in the day.
Tindalos did a decent job with the Battlefleet Gothic series (RTS space navy battles from Warhammer 40k). The core combat mechanics were engaging and offered a lot of strategic variety. So long as Disney doesn't get stingy, Dark Descent has the potential to be a really fun game.
I really hope dark descent has a mode, where you have the biomonitors from the APC and shaky vidcam footage from your squad as they move. That would be so amazing, Not to mention if they spoke or grumbled about your orders etc. A guy can dream though. Not to mention map maker support or mod support to recreate the Attack in the Atmospheric processor. It would be neat to see what a squad could of done different there.
I’m glad they are bringing a new campaign, I’ve played fire team elite quite a bit and would like a new campaign to try, I like how many new guns and perks they’ve added, I was surprised that each kit got at least 2 new ones.
Can we get a game where we play as the aliens again? AVP AVP2 AVP2 Primal Hunt all great shooters great movement Alien wall running superb, decent story lines. AVP (2010) Great Gore great finishers wall walking kinda funky but not bad, Lose the rock paper scissors combat were golden (Alien being able to chase its own tail ABSOLUTELY A WIN IDC FIGHT ME WAS HILARIOUS). Aliens Colonial marines cool new combat tricks and perk customization and alien types (horrible wall walking transitions).
It would also be really neat if you were to explain the lore for AvP Extinction if that's possible and how it coincides with the Aliens universe. I get really confused trying to figure out how the AvP/Aliens lore intertwine with the movies, comics, and games seemingly taking increasing steps in opposite directions.
I'm enjoying fireteam myself, the Lancer class is pretty fun too. A good game to play on casual and standard with friends unless you are a machocist or extremely talented streamer with a coordinated team. Tougher difficulties are too tough for casual people with non video game related lives and careers lol. In my opinion of course, feel free to disagree... politely please
@@ghostrobot3714 yep, it is unfortunate when the dailies want you to play a higher level though, or you don't get xp when you die at the end of a mission
@@robm6726 Agreed. It's a strange design philosophy to create difficulty tiers, then antithetically tie progression to something unobtainable to a large % of the players. Losing xp with no way to get it back (like Souls gmaes) is just bad design, imo. Like, why? Fun game though, even if you're just gonna put 20-or-so hours into it.
If and when they do it, they should do it only if the story fresh enough and plot as a whole is a written well. As the Isolation was so masterpiece, it would be darn shame if the sequal would follow just as an carbon copy. Just like Alien was followed by Aliens and was totally different, it is the thing that has kept the movie series fresh instead constantly insted of becoming just a generic monsters slasher with growing roman numeral after the name. Doesn't have to go all shooter, just change things so the players/viewers don't feel like they have paid for a straight up copy.
There was an alien vs predators top down strategy released for ps2 back in the day that I loved playing! It was cool taking the controls of a marine squad gunning down aliens, finding and destroying hives and other cool objectives!!!
Looks cool and fun. Hopefully it’s not to hard or too much to manage your team in making sure you keep up health bars, etc. Hopefully we get another movie soon.
Not too big on FT elite. Loved Alien Isolation. I love cinematic in games. I'm 57. I organized a DK tournament in 1980. Been gaming a very long time. Hated scary movies, but my brother, girlfriend (now wife) wanted to see Aliens in 86'...I reluctantly went, now I'm a HUGE fan and I LOVE ur channel ...I honestly found Fireteam Elite quite redundant. Not isolation. I always hope for the next ultimate experience!
As someone who had completed FTE on the hardest difficulty, i can say I'm excited to see a harder mode, but I honestly don't know how we're gonna do it. It was a struggle bus for some of those missions.
You need a Steam Deck. I mostly play handhelds too, and the ST and Switch are very similar experiences, but with the advantage of access to the massive PC gaming libraries.
Good to hear people talking about AVP Extinction. That game had its flaws but the enemy variety is what made that game special to me. Hopefully Dark Descent blows the trailer out of the water because I just want a good game with plenty of content
I would rather they make a game all from the Xenomorph's perspective. It could start off with a cutscene about the Yautja enslavement of their species by kidnapping and threatening to torture a Queen, Empress, or even a Queen Mother, and how generations of their species are forced into a type of slavery, so, to prevent that from happening again after escaping the Yautja, they started hunting and killing Humans. The gameplay could be about fighting for a place of their own, such as commandeering a ship and the humans or Yautja that set it to autopilot to claim a new home planet, which ends up becoming the Xenomorph's home planet.
Like Rebellion's Aliens vs Predator game where it had the Alien campaign? It would be intetesting. The Alien campaign was fun, but not as much as the Marine and Predator campaigns since there was much much more detail/story to it. The xeno was straightforward.
@@willk4862 Similar, yes. I was thinking more like in Aliens Versus Predator 2010, where it shows Weyland-Yutani holding a Xenomorph Queen prisoner and forcing Xenomorphs, like Six, into a program to try and control their species on a whole.
@@willk4862 Rebellion made another AVP game, if my memory serves me correctly, so I thought you were talking about that one, not the 2010 game. I disagree, I found the Alien Campaign MUCH more enjoyable, I felt it had the most story to it. The Marine Campaign, I hated it. It was like every Alien movie ever, Humans Good, Aliens Bad. It was too boring and repetitive, which is also why I hate how it is the longest out of the three. The Yautja Campaign was not much better than the Marine Campaign in my opinion, but I did not hate it, unlike the Marine Campaign. I got every trophy/collectible in all three campaigns, but I never upped the difficulty from Easy for the Marine Campaign, I hated it too much to go through it a second time, but the other two I played on every available difficulty, but the only one I still play, even to this day, is the Xenomorph Campaign. However, most of the time I play the game, I am playing the PVP mode.
Top Down "Board Game Style" Aliens game using the "Space Hulk" engine would be most interesting (appropriate considering the 1989 Space Hulk Board Game was based largely on the 1986 Aliens) :)
With a base game that was released in 2010 and Reactive in 2017, it was really nice to see that they are still releasing updates for it, last one came just week ago. Would hope more devs would do this.
I got fireteam elite 2 days ago, but its very hard to find people to play with already, i hope future updates will bring people back to the game so i can go trough all the missions. AI just doesnt cut it for me
I’ve played it, but how do you get just story mode for the PS4? It only seems to be co op and there’s never any other players online. Am I doing something wrong? Fire team elite I mean.
@@EpicRaph I’ve done that with the bots. Is it worth baring with it! It seems pretty dull. I miss AvP where you could go either or a marine. Now that was a decent game.
The community has shrunk since launch. You're not the only one who spends 10 minutes trying to find a lobby. I'd offer to play, but my PS+ just expired.
I'm getting major Alien vs Predator: Extinction flashbacks from Dark Descent. It was an interesting take on a focused RTS set in the universe to be sure.
I might give Descent a try, it just looks like more of what weve had before. I would like for them to make a good, expansive, more emersive AVP game with different types of xenomorphs we havent seen before like from the comics and different predator types. It would be cool to play as an Alien who molts into a Queen and play as the Queen. AvP 2010 was good but not as good as AvP 2 in my opinion, Im digging Fireteam Elite, really looking forward to the Pathogen Expansion
Tindalos makes great tactical games, if the quality here is the same as in Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 then I am very much excited. But considering how hit or miss the Alien(s) franchise games are, or just plainly sub-par where they could have been fantastic, my skepticism creeps in regardless. Isolation is a masterpiece or borderline one. Fireteam is barely mediocre and so on, unfortunately. Glad you and others enjoy it, though! I recall here how Colonial Marines was stomped into dust and for good reason, yet the game gave a lot of fun moments while playing with 3 friends. Great memories and again it could have been much, much better... Lets wait and see what this game is going to turn out in the long run :)
Just started playing again last night. Red Alert lol Classic, did you see the official remaster they made last year? It's pretty good... Im willing to give this game a shot if i can see more about it.
Sounds like it's building off of that pseudo Aliens Isolation sequel mobile game where you have to guide the crew from a command position to avoid the alien and complete objectives.
I think everyone that loves the Alien franchise would want another game that resembles Alien Isolation, given how much that game was truely a masterpiece. It may be possible in the future we’ll see a second Alien Isolation or perhaps a different title that expands on that same game with a different name. I feel like these two new Alien games are good, but in my opinion the Alien franchise has always been more of a first person survival shooter experience. I enjoy the creativity on Alien Fireteam elite. But it doesn’t feel as Alien like when it compares to Alien Isolation, Alien Isolation truely feels like what an Alien experience was supposed to be. It captures it so well. I’d like to see how these new games go for sure as I do enjoy the Alien franchise, and I also do enjoy these types of game genres. But if I speak for the community, everyone would love to see a sequel or a new Alien game that resemblance Alien Isolation. It’ll be awhile I recon, but with more Alien games and content releasing, it could be a possibility of it seeing the light of day again. Especially since a lot of the community want it to happen.
The reason you rarely see ports of bigger 3rd party games on switch is due to its power ,if the switch had equal power to like even lets say a previous generation ps4 or was really close to it, devs would for sure port more games to it but since the switch is fairly weak, it's basically like a beefed up WiiU in terms of performance, it makes porting all these modern day games difficult to it and often requires a lot of work and some sacrifices to be done to make it playable on a switch and often it's simply not possible even with compromises. Even at release, the switch was already being even out performed by smart phones at the time, Nintendo rarely if ever goes for strong hardware specs for their systems anymore. The closest thing you could go for that's like the switch but has more power behind it to run modern day games would be the recent Steam Deck from valve which comes close to sort-of matching the first version of the Xbox One console in terms of performance for games. It can for an example play Elden Ring at a solid locked 30 fps on medium visual settings which is the equivalent experience of playing it on a previous generation console (xbox one/ps4).
I can see it being very similar to Xcom series but with xenomorphs. Which isn't a bad thing really if it sets itself apart with a good story and original mechanics.
Have you played Aliens vs Predator on the Atari Jaguar? Arguably the best game on the Jaguar which I know, is not saying much but it was a fun game and not your typical Doom clone. You can play as the Colonial Marine, an Alien drone, or the Predator, each with their own story/objective. There is some fascinating lore in the game. When you play as the Colonial Marine, you can 'log on' to various computers throughout the maps and read the captains log, look at specs for the various weapons, read files on other creatures the Marines had come in contact with, etc. For the Marine's story; you wake up after spending some time in cryo sleep in the Brig for striking an officer, only to find you are the only human alive and it is infested with Xenomprophs... and something else. For the Xenomorph; Find Queen, save queen. Cocoon a host which act as 'extra lives.' for the Predator; Find and capture queen xenomorph. You get to use all the predator's weapons and gadgetry, including invisibility and the ability to switch between different visual spectrums on the mask as seen in Predator 2. Please check it out if you haven't but remember, the graphics show their age. I'd love to see a vid on it!
Love all the AvP Extinction recognition in the comments. I really hope they somehow manage to capture that experience and turn it into an XCOM style format. XCOM is one of my favorite games of all time and I've always though about how badass it would be to start off with rookie USMC Marines and turn them into battle hardened veterans and equip them. Hope they got the Extinction classes such as the Commtech, smartgunner (of course), medic, synthetic, etc. Being able to set up sentry turrets in the proper choke points. Really hope they manage to get it right. Aliens genre really needs a win after these last 10 years.
We need a PREQUEL to ALIENS. Something telling the story on what happened on LV-426 before the Marines arrived. The discovery of the derelict, the outbreak and Newt's survival. "ALIENS: Last Stand"
If I can't play as the Xenos, then I don't really care much, AVP Extinction was one of my favorites, shame it didn't have a skirmish mode, the Alien final mission was the closest to that
I'm one of the more Hardcore when it comes to Aliens Fireteam Elite. It's been my go to game ever since the first update last October or whenever it was. I'm really excited for the new campaign "yes I'll be buying it". This Dark Decent looks good. But am worried that it's a straight up strategy game of the likes of Halo Wars, Gears Tactics. Which are cool. But I just can't get into them. If the gameplay is of a let's say Smash T.V. like or the Accent than I'll for sure love the gameplay.
Wouldn't doubt it would come to switch, getting dev kits for consoles , porting, and the whole Nintendo censorship/rating/quality control process that Nintendo implements for all third party studios takes months .... Sometimes up to a year depending on many variables
YOYOYOYOYOYOYOYOYO IM SO READY FOR SPME NEW SOLID CONTENT... A GAME ISNT ENOUGH.. I NEED A SOLID SERIES.... PREFERABLE A GIANT, MUCH DELAYED ANIMATED SHOW THAT TRAVELED THE WHOLE UNIVERSE THROUGH TIME WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF "DIFFERENT UNIVERSES" BEING ABLE TO COVER UP ANY PLOT OR STORY HOLES... edit: okay, after hearing about the game I am excited, and it will entertain me for 2 weeks
Reminds me of alien Vs Predator extinction, I okayed that on Xbox and hands down for me is one of the best games from the franchise. I haven't enjoyed fireteam elite or colonial marines, cash grabs in my eyes and not the best to play either with the terrible matchmaking in fireteam. I'm hopeful!, Starship troopers is coming out this month and the way that's played I think they could go along the lines of that. If your curious it's on Steam, go check it out. Hopefully they could do similar things with this aliens game.
An alien game from the aliens point of view is really needed or just a decent isometric multiplayer or a metroid prime alien playing as a predator on a planet exploring and exterminating
This does have potential for sure. But... imho there are too many games based on Aliens. I'd personally like to see more games based on the more horror universe of the original Alien. I know, I know, Alien Isolation should have gotten a sequel a long time ago but I'm pretty certain that won't happen. Or if it does it's not going to happen any time soon. So yes, looking forward to this and the new DLC for Fireteam Elite but I'm mainly getting it because I love the franchise (faults and all).
