Sagar Mahapatra bigger screen less ppi and gtx 970m? mine 1815 usd + discounted plextor ssd m5 xtreme pro (not some cheap built in ssd) for 75 usd 256 gb with i7 and 980m and surprisingly my memory default timings is 9-9-9-24 (2x4GB) all for 1900 usd beat that haters
Good review. I just bought the AW15 with a slightly upgraded CPU i7 4720, 1080p screen, 980M, 128sdd and 1tb 7200rpm HDD from their outlet store for around $1450 new in the US, they waved shipping and with tax it cost me 1540. I honestly see no need for a 4k screen on a 15.4 inch screen just to sacrifice performance which is extremely important in a gaming laptop. Played Crysis 3 on it last night and frame rates with consistently 75 to 80 fps. I've played others with frames over 100 consistently.
Please review the Razer Blade 14" 2015 edition. As a gaming laptop and as a ultrabook. Heat, performance, 1080p gameplay (how it handles it) and 4K as well.
Would rather have the 1080p non touchscreen. Better to play games at native res with ease, saves power and doesn't stress your hardware so much. Cooler and quieter too.
***** Yep, but not every app likes that, for example steam and origin don't scale well and would be very tiny on a 15 or 17 inch screen. Also some indie games will only run at native res.
+Nathaniel Morada (Kristhan) If I'm not wrong, he spoke more than eleven minutes because he edited the video which means that he may have spoke wrongly just guessing
I have the 15 sitting at home, brand new, in the box waiting for me. I can't open it being in New York right now. Being an OTR truck driver is tough. =(
Thank you for the review men i though you'll never was going to post it :D i got mine already and is way more beautiful than i expected, great videos brother! God bless you
I have a A15, but I noticed playing video games and using track pad at same time does not always work. It's always very jerky, and not smoothe. Almost like it doesn't register my smooth finger movements when trying to sprint in a game or etc...
I got this computer except the 1920x1080p non-touchscreen version and it is amazing! Just make sure to bug dell about a 240w power adapter, the 180w default one is insufficient and causes the GPU to throttle down, causing great decreases in fps. I can run the witcher 3 at max graphics 60fps :D
Brad Holderfield Well I bugged them before I bought it and they said that once I get the computer then they can give me 240w adapter, so I did and they gave me a 240w adapter.
honestly this review was very helpful I purchased the same unit only I used a 1tb ssd and a 550tb ssd honestly this thing is unreal ive had 0 issues playing games at 4k is no problem. I can't figure out why some people had issues but then again anything can happend my buddies Asus rog came in doa he dropped 2600 I dropped 2400
Does anyone know what material the trackpad is made of? Plastic? Glass? I love how smooth the macbook pro's glass trackpad is and I'd love to see that on a good PC.
TechSpot were you running a 240w psu or the standard 180w when gaming? as you can see if you search the net the 180w psu isnt enough, i have the same model and i think im suffering some limitations with the 180w psu, so im looking at buying a 240w psu if dell wont play fair
How much was the Alienware 15 laptop you reviewed and and what we're all the specs and just one last thing will this be perfect for like grand strategy like total war games or hearts of iron
Hello ! I'll be very glad if you could help me with my confusion . I am planning to buy a new laptop in the next 3-4 months . My main purpose would be music production . And i'd like to game a little bit as well . For music production , i need all the CPU power i can get , the processor has to be fast . Gaming laptops are designed to handle extreme CPU loads , so buying a gaming laptop would solve bothe my purposes. But the problem is , most of the time , I'll be in college , so choosing it as a desk replacement will not be an option . So , i wanted to know if the heating is appropriate for me to use it on my lap ? I cannot go for other laptops than the Alienware 15 , because all the other gaming laptops of this calibre are more expensive . I can hadle 6-7 pounds , ive always handled heavy musical intruments , but will it solve my purpose ? I prefer windows over Mac , so MBP is out of the option . Thankyou
+Blake Bowman hey man ! Thanks for replying ! Thankyou for your suggestion , but actually i dont care about the graphics , just decent enough to show me things sharply , and to run moderate games , like GTA5 , nothing hyper-graphics oriented . If you could suggest me something which has a powerful CPU , lots of RAM and decent battery life , it would be a great help . Also , if you could tell me if running windows on a macbook pro takes a toll on its performance or not , it would be a great help as well ! Thankyou
+Blake Bowman oh , i did'nt know that . Lenovo Y50 might have a reasonable configuration , but is it tuned to handle such CPU loads ? Because my brother has a Dell notebook ( dont remember the model) , it has 8 GB ram , 5th gen i7 @2.9Ghz and still i can feel it lag sometimes while making music on it .
If you wanna buy this laptop do you have to get the graphics amplifier with it? I am considering buying this and I need if it's required to buy it and how much does it add to the experience?
What would be better the Same but 1080p screen or this one as it's not available in my country? I can get alienware 15 1080p same config or wait a month and buy it from another country during my summer vacation.
I just recently got this laptop and while i love it 4k i just cannot get the grasp of. everything is super tiny and even when setting the dpi makes thins either super small or blurry when not enabled and things are barely able to read. Any info on this 4k stuff would be greatly apprciated
Im about to get a new laptop to play games like witcher 3, elite dangerous etc.... Would you guys recommend this or not? If its worth the buy then i will i just dont want to waste my money. I would buy the I5 version though as its slightly more in my budget.
I'm definitely getting the new alienware and specs are a mother story but what are the physical dimensions and weights of the 15 and 17 versions? I will be taking the laptop around a lot with me but I will have a laptop backpack so "chunkiness" is not an issue.
I recently got an Alienware 15, I will list all the aspects of the nightmare that is owning one of these computers. 1. It crashed constantly when I first got it 2. Tech support held me on the line for hours before they decided to send a repair man to my house, 3. He replace my hard drive, installed windows and before it was done, he left. 4 at around 90 percent it crashed and windows failed 5 after spending another 2 hours on the phone with tech support they told me it was the the other drive that was bad and had me try to remove it. 6 after turning it on, the ram could not be found and it would not start. 7 they sent another tech to my house and replaced both drives, the motherboard and the ram. 8. he installed windows and left 9. once it booted up, there were no drivers installed so I called the tech and he told me to go to support.dell.com and install the network driver from another computer and get the internet working on the Alienware then, go to the same site and get the rest of the drivers. 10. support.dell.com has a self detect and install feature that insures you get everything you need, I downloaded their program to do this and it would not work, so I manually intalled the drivers they recommended, for about 5 hours straight. 11, after all of theis the internet would not work, just a bunch of security issues that would not allow my computer to do anything except use explorer, the worst most vulnerable browser of all time. 12. I finally broke down and called support again, they held me on the phone for another 2 hours trying to figure it all out, it turned out that my time and date were set wrong and that was why the internet was all f'd up 13. after dealing with all that the support guy logged onto my computer and found that windows never really installed properly and it had to be re-installed along with ALL the drivers..... again!!!! 14. another hour of my life went by and he logged onto my computer again and said he would re install windows himself 15 hour hours went buy while I waited for home to finish this task, once he was done he said everything was good to go. 16, I thought, FINALLY I can use this "supposed" bad ass computer. 17, I installed my programs I need for work, adobe CC and resolume and it seemed to work fine but the touch pad was not working at all, so I got on support again and installed the driver for the Touch pad. it worked 18 then ont he 4 k screen my adobe programs were so small I could not read the text without a magnifying glass, and changing the resolution didnt change the programs, it only affected windows 19 after A LOT of research I figured out a wonky fix and got the screen resolution to change on my programs. 20 Now it hink I can finally use this "Monster" laptop and I get error after error, I keep having to install other items like Direct X, C++ and other drivers to make the thing work. 21. Then I finally think that this "Amazing" computer is ready to go so I install one last program and prepare to get some work done after living in the Alienware black hole for over 2 weeks and the computer asks me to restart like it has done 10 billion times since Ive gotten it, so I go to shut down and it says, "update and shutdown" not just "shutdown". So I think to my self, do I ave a choice? I really need to get some actual work done tonight, I cant wait around for an update after spending a lifetime f'ing around with this piece of trash, how bad could it be? I should probably update, Ive come this far I should do it. I have NO IDEA of how many updates are needed, no indication of how much more of my life will be wasted, just "update and shut down" so, reluctantly I hit the button. 22 the screen says, installing 1 of 49 updates!!!!!! WTF!!!!!! I dont have time for this shit, what a joke!!!!, but wait it seems to be moving along ok, 1....2....3.... sweet this shouldn't take long, 23 for the past 2 hours it is sitting on update 40 doing nothing, wheel spinning computer is totally silent, no sign of activity. 24 It takes everything in my being to not stomp on this 3500$ piece of fecal matter with my cowboy boots. I have one thing to say to all you folks who are considering getting an Alienware or any PC. Life is too short, get a mac and get on with your life.
ein steinchen The Alienware 13 is underpowered for a GTX980 in the GA. The Alienware 15 does perform 40-60% better with a GTX980 in the GA. The ULV is underpowered to handle better Graphics cards. www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-15-Notebook-Review.136667.0.html
Hi! I seen in your in icing that you had mcafee installed on it. I am thinking about getting my alienwere laptop with it. What do you think of mcafee vs say Norton?
Alienware laptops run very cool in comparison to other gaming laptops. The fans can get loud though. If you are experiencing overheating, you may not be giving your laptop proper ventilation.
does anyone know how the battery life on the alienware is? or does anyone have a recommendation for a decent gaming laptop that also has a long battery life? preferably something with 5+ hours of battery.
hello beautiful revews :) have you had any problem in performence games with power 180w original post on some of the drop in fps games because of lack of power supply?
You keep saying you won't want to move around bla bla. Its only 3kg and not that bulky as you said. Just don't try to have an impact on people with saying it is heavy because it is not as it was before. People who buy gaming laptops do not search for thickness. They want cooling and Alienware gives them that .Thats why MSI's GS series have cooling problems.
Can someone help. I can't decide if I should buy the gtx 970m w/3gb or gtx 980m w/4gb. Is it necessary to upgrade to the 980m or will the 970m last for the next few years for high-ultra settings? Btw I'm getting the 1080p version.
With a 13 inch screen, you won't really be able to notice the extra pixel density that the UHD screen would get you. I would suggest you get the lower spec 15 inch model. You may also want to check out the Razer Blade or the MSI GS70 stealth pro.
what about alienware 15 skylake 980m ? .I don't want 4k . 1080p is enough . durability is important . will it last 4 to 5 years ? and can I play 2 to 3 hours with out boiling the laptop . or should I settle down with msi 62 apache pro gtx 970m with 30k less . please help totally confused
Alienware if you're looking for performance, or msi if you want a cheaper price but not as good performance. Anyways you can find the Alienware 15 r2 970m for 1200, so I recommend the alien for price and performance. :)
What if I am getting a 6th gen Alienware 15 with GTX 970m for 1150$. I am planning to get an amp later and get a 980ti. What should I do, go for it or build a gaming pc.
4k resolution??... I have an xbox one and Destiny's graphics look pretty damn good, your telling me that 4k is just about 4 times better or am I wrong? Cuz that just blows my mind.
HI All, If I get the 4k display model and reduce the resolution down to the 1980 resolution. Will the Touch Screen still work? Last question - if I install Android type touch screen software (so I can test Mobile/Tablet game development) - would this work on this touch screen? Such as an edited version of an android angry bird type game..... no point investing in this TEC if touchscreen would not let me test my game development touch screen for Android... any comments - please?
FuDaizy You don't need this to play those games. You can run those in great settings in most laptops that have a dedicated gpu. This is pretty much overkill and not worth your money. The only reason why you would get Alienware is for playing games that are really demanding in performance I.e (BF4, Dying Light, GTAV, Arma3 ,ETC) . Since Alienware laptops are subjected to less overheating due to their build quality your computer will last longer.
Do the review of a clevo p650sg, I am looking to buy it and some more input would be great (same cpu and gpu as the alienware but thinner and lighter). Clevo is sold as barebones of brands xmg, schenker and iBuyPower
You're pretty handsome, but more product shots and camera panning of the actual laptop would be nice, we would still be listening to your voice in the background.
