Alienware's new 32-inch QD-OLED (AW3225QF) gaming monitor is here, and we got to do an early review of it, just in time for launch. It takes the best parts of the supremely popular Alienware 34 and puts it in a more conventional, 32-inch 16:9 form factor. That's good on its own, but Alienware is also using a better QD-OLED panel that fixes some of the color accuracy weaknesses of the previous generation. Throw in some really solid console support with Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.1 with eARC, and a dedicated Console Mode for HDR tone mapping, and you have one of the very best gaming monitors you can buy.

eARC is a huge addition as long as audio can be passed through both HDMI and DisplayPort allowing to switch audio between two devices.

Can we acklowledge that they are spot on with their marketing? First the teasers of roadmaps and what to expect, then CES with short clips and now just after CES is over and the amazements and wishful thinkig is about to slow down, they lift the embargo and we get more in depth content.

@@zachmullins9444 Careful. I would control my impulse and just wait till the majority of these products are out. There might be other OEM with better features coming out as well that were not on CES. Also I bought an Alienware last year just at launch and had to send it back due to some production error and dead pixel. The first batch is not the best.

I can't decide which monitor to buy. Should I buy the alienware AW2725DF,AW3225QF or the msi mpg 271qrx? I play multiplayer and story games equally, but currently more story games. Currently less multiplayer because I'm still waiting for my new internet connection. My current monitor is 13 years old and it's simply not worthy of my new 2k usd PC.

@@Nick-4K True, I moved to 240 (280 in OC mode) last year and its amazing, BUT in games like Battlefield that are shooters but you cant hit max FPS reliably you notice some small stutters/inconsistencies compated to hitting 144 max refresh all the time.

I have a 3423dw and a 42 inch c2. I use the c2 for flight sims. I wouldn't say it'll be a huge upgrade but the 4k at 32 inches will be a higher pixel density and you get some benefits from qd oled such as higher peak brightness and better yellows. The higher refresh rate may be nice if you play a lot of high motion games, but driving 4k at 240 requires a beast of a pc (and even then its more like 160 range) I'm getting one to replace my 3423dw.

Just for my understanding: Despite the fact that it has no Freesync Premium Pro certification doesnt mean that it's not able to display adaptive sync in combination with hdr with an amd graphics card, right? It can do that?

If the monitor has a game console mode then I'm wondering why it doesn't have speakers or audio output jacks for speakers that are not EArc. Not everyone wants a soundbar for their desk set-up.

It's crazy expensive but I think I'll go for it once it comes out here in UK. I play 90% of my games on Xbox so I never picked up the 34" ultrawide. but I also watch a lot of movies and play PC games here and there. I'm a huge sucker for good image quality, graphics and HDR. Quick question, will my RX 6700 XT's HDMI 2.1 or DP 1.4 port be able to get 4K 240hz HDR?

I think your DP 1.4a port should work if it enables DSC (Display Stream Compression). HDMI 2.1 would need DSC or FRL (Fixed Rate Link) to support 4k 240 Hz, and I'm not sure if the 6700XT support VRR with FRL enabled. I suppose you'll find out, but I think your DP port should definitely work.

Best monitor I've owned hands down paired with my first prebuilt Aurora R15 with a 4090 and 7900xt i got for 3k. Couldn't build one for these specs at that price. I've always built my own but i couldn't pass it up. I saw a lot of hate on AW while researching. I must say other then the case looks which has grown on me its a beast and doesn't skip a beat. Good temps and blasts thru any game. Coming from a Neo G9 With 6900xt. Once u go oled u cant go back. Good job AW. This monitor is a beauty!!!!

I'm really interested in the 32-inch monitor reviewed in your video for both gaming and work. I've understood that this monitor does not support 1440p resolution on consoles, which I find quite absurd. Could you please check if this monitor supports gaming at 1440p resolution on consoles? I'm particularly looking to play Apex Legends at 120 fps and use 4k resolution for work tasks. I prefer not to game in 4k on the console due to the significant performance drop in fps games, especially in competitive play. It's crucial for me to have the 1440p functionality for gaming. Question is the monitor the same "glossyness" (is that a word?) as the LG C3? What I mean is, I know the Alienware is "glossy" but I've never seen one. The LGs are basically a mirror which I like. So are these mirror-like also or do they have a very very slight "coating"/light diffuser? From the video the monitor looks like is not as glossy/mirror-like as the LG C-series tvs.

You can also (finally) update the AW3423DW (the DWF was always updatable as it didn't have a G-Sync Module). They released a Firmware update in December - Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully. :)

HELP! Should I use DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 (current setup 4090 (DP1.4 Or HDMI 2.1) + AW3225QF (DP1.4 Or HDMI 2.1). DP 1.4a with DSC for 4k 240Hz sounds amazing. Also if I go the DP 1.4 route. Are all cables equal or are the quality ones you recommend. PS. Already have a nice DP 2.1 cable advertised as 16k or something like that. Would that work or could that cause issues? TY in advance. ALl help welcome

You should use hdmi 2.1 since it has more bandwidht than dp1.4 but it doesnt really matter because both will work. Dp 2.1 is the best cable and it should be backwards compatable so use that. 4090 doesnt have dp2.1. Neither does monitors. But it should work as 1.4 :)

I have the odyssey neo g7 basically same panel but you get the 240 hz and let me tell you.... it was the closest I can get to oled or qd oled which was good. Problem is the halo effect the screen has, viewing angles you have to be center not to notice it. Color accuracy can be a hit or miss specially HDR, a lot of tweaking for best settings. Even though your monitor has 240hz, qd oled is much faster, better color accuracy and no glare meaning perfect viewing angles. Lastly the control stick button is the worst. Hopefully this helps. Mine is coming Saturday

Is it possible, for some games to set the resolution to 1440 p ingame? Or does the image/screen Quality suffer to much from it? Or is this Monitor only usable in 4k? Cant deside which one of the two alienware Monitors i want to buy. I have a new pc with an rtx 4080 in it, but i also want to habe decent fps like "the finals" for example. But monitor is better for the future i guess when gpus get even better. Can someone help me? :)

Maybe get the 360hz option. 4k gaming is nice but I feel the benefit is more for movies where it’s realistic anyways and not fake graphics.

Hey. I have the aw3225qf but there is something that drives me crazy... There is flickering with G-Sync turned on. It's mainly in situations with gray on the screen like in dark situations which are not 100% black or a little bit lighter. It does happen in loadingscreens too. Is that a common issue for that monitor? Is it a common issue for OLED monitors? I tried it without G-Sync and everything worked perfectly fine. But without G-Sync the games doesn't feel as smooth as with it and have screen-tearing. Could anyone tell me if that is normal and if other OLED monitors (like the Asus pg32ucdm) doesn't have this issue? It's really really sad that this has VRR flickering because if it wouldn't have it, it would be a perfect monitor. I'm thinking about returning it because that isn't acceptable for 1000 bucks to be honest. (Latest Firmware is installed) Would be really nice if anyone can help!

yes 240hz is overkill for a ps5, as its max refresh is 120fps in very few games that actually hit 120fps. I would look at LG C2/C3, get a bigger screen and save a few $100

Had the AW3432DWF and it was amazing, I unofrtunately broke it and I think going for a 4k 240z now is the great option. Esports titles are for sure going to be able to take advantage of the high refreshrate even at 4k and I used to play single player games on my 4k@60hz tv in my livingh room anyway. Great monitor only thing i might be missing is the ultrawide but it also has some benefits going back to 32" and 16:9 as not all games i played supported the UW format

Only reasons why i'm not changing my monitor for this one... the missing 21:9... i know that other alienware got 3440X1440p with Oled... but since i had one b4 and changed it for the 38'' version... the extra 1600 is so much a game changer... I'll prob wait for that 38'' to comes up !

@TMar1961 For Cyberpunk in 4K, you may need to lower your graphics quality settings and enable all DLSS features. Set DLSS 2 to balanced mode. You can play in 4K even with a 4060 Ti (VRAM should be sufficient). It all depends on the graphics quality you are willing to sacrifice. With high-quality graphics, a 4070 Ti will struggle with titles like Cyberpunk. For games like CS: GO or something similar, you will get above 200 fps. Ultimately, it depends on the games you play as well. In my opinion, a 4070 Ti should not be paired with 4K. Also, this is a great era to play games in 1440p with ultra settings.

And it wouldn't actually matter if I had a bigger desk because the desk is always going to be up against the wall and the monitor is always going to stand at the back of the desk. So it really depends on how much that monitor stand is pushing the monitor away from the wall. The size of the desk is irrelevant.

Sure can, not on max settings in all games, especially newest AAA titles will require some form of DLSS ON, especially when you want Raytracing as well. But 4080 can hold its own on 4k, just not all on ultra/max settings and you need to use DLSS most times if you want 60-100 stable fps

Good review but no mention about text clarity on this monitor; something that put me off buying any of the 2023 OLED monitors? I definitely want one of these Alienware QD-OLED monitors. I currently have a 27" 1440p 165 Hz IPS monitor but was planning to upgrade to a 27" 1440p OLED display and was very interested in the new Dell models as they were flat not curved. The only thing putting me off the 32" 4K display is the fact that it is curved. It might be slight but it is still curved and I've never been a fan of these as I find it distracting rather than immersive.

Being able to send a 1080p or1440p high fps signal and view it cropped and centered at the BOTTOM of the monitor is a huge selling point for me which Ive seen offered before, 4K is great for movies and sharper text to mitigate the pixel layout problem but for semi competitive gaming its overkill, 1440p cropped to 27 inches with black borders left/right and top is something a gpu I can afford can run and anyone who needs glasses has to sit so close for the correct focus point they can't use bigger than 27 inch anyway. I find it strange reviewers don't cover this feature more as I am just going to go for a 27 inch without it.

I also have serious reservations about OLED longevity. The organic compounds used deteriorate over time. I have LCD panels that still look great after five years. I can see problems with the OLED tv in my bedroom after just 3.

Still getting full 250 nuts full screen white. RTINGs burn in tests abuse displays on purpose, to cause/force burn in. Normal use will never see it. In my 6000 hours, 1/3rd spent in gaming and 2/3rds spent in windows with static elements for very long periods. ZERO burn in.

No, it uses second-generation QD-OLED panels. The Asus 32-inch PG32UCDM (which was announced with a 2nd gen panel) is shipping with a 3rd gen one, but it's just a vague "Q1 2024" promise right now and probably why it's not shipping alongside the Alienware.

But VRR is perfectly fine for an Xbox Series X or PS5. I definitely wouldn’t not purchase this monitor over that. I myself am Trading a Neo G7 with FreeSync for this Monitor and I’m on Series X
