The hate came from poor cooling, proprietary/non-upgradable parts, and getting outperformed by the competition that cost less. For instance I've seen a 3070 Legion beat a 3080 AlienWare because of the higher watts and lack of thermal throttling.
Why? It wont be able to push qhd. The x15 barely can do 45-120fps on qhd rez and mine has a 3080 gpu. At 110w and the x14 has a 3060 at 90 watts i think
Honestly after having quad hd on a 13 r3 I'll be glad to be able to run games at native resolution on anything but low. There's very little web content in quad hd. There's a marginal benefit when watching 4k video but that's about it. In all the benefit of high refresh rate, low response time and quality of display outweighs more pixels on the screen.
I love my x14r2. I needed something for trading and cybersecurity work. I game casually but getting 200 fps on my MMO's. I grab this device more than my Macbook right now.
@@RTReview. Agreed, they need to improve some things. I think for the most part components are good, but assembly and fitment can be bad. For example the trackpad problem.
I'm not a gamer but I need those gamer specs for music production...was thinking about getting the xps but Alienware seems a bit more powerful for running the Daw with VST's and large sample libraries.
You may enjoy the small productivity design differences in the XPS. I have a friend who uses the XPS use run CAD modeling softwares well. Although, of course the Alienware will be better for raw performance.
They so popular they are backordered until July :(. I still have the older 14 model from 2013. Still functions well. Are there backpacks that fit it without kind of squishing it?
I know 1080p will look fine on a good 14" display but the lack of a 1440p option is a deal breaker for me. I don't mind losing some fps for that extra sharpness.
Man, I think it would be a bit more than some. There is a vitalization of a physical size for HD2k and 4k. Each has a significantly larger area. If you wanted this laptop with top gpu it will go fine, not so much on the entry level gpu.
I would love to give up my Razer Blade 15 2021 model for Alienware X14, but this 1st gen X14 spec not quite there yet, I was hoping better display like QHD, I can live with 3060 model or 3060ti future 2nd gen model, Fullsize SD card would be PERFECT for editor.
Just exactly why do you have 1440p screen on a 14 inch gaming laptop? I have a 32inch 165hz 1440p monitor for my PC that has RTX 3070 and can't even fully utilize the maximum hertz for AAA titles.
1 specs? Unless Intel or AMD make cooler chips this is the limint, thing is so hot u don't want or even need anything more powerful, 2 qhd is irrelevant to this size I went from legion 5 pro with qhd and dont see the diff, 3 this a GAMING LAPTOP the Micro sd is for your steam games, only a small % of gaming laptops have full size sd but undeclock the GPU like Your Razer me and everyone else that wanTs gaming rather have a micro SD
I am a college student who needs a high-powered laptop to read huge pdf files, write endless amounts of essays and do the occasional bit of pc gaming just so that I can play games with my pc gamer mates. I had a few questions about the x14 and was wondering if u wouldn't mind answering them. - the wrist rest seems small. is it uncomfortable for doing extensive typing sessions? - I need smth that lasts me 6-7 years. what would its life span approximately end up being, in your opinion? - I am a college student so am looking to get the 3050 ti or just 3050 to save some money. would that configuration be able to handle games of the modern standard? - can this laptop handle copious amounts of school work while also being used to game? - whats the battery life like for productivity? - would u recommend this computer for people who are unsure if they want to commit to pc gaming but who also need smth high powered for school? i apologise for asking so many questions but would really appreciate the help.
Hi! Did you end up getting the AW x14? I am looking at this computer as a college student and would be interested in knowing how it works out! If you didn't get the AW x14, what did you get instead and how did you like it!
Tbh, I don't get why this question applies to what is essentially a blank slate once you replace the OS Actually, I don't understand why this question applies to any laptop/hardware computer device. These reviews never talk about the actually OS, they talk about the specs and how it works in the chassis through battery life and thermals
@@FF18Cloud I'm not a hardware guy so my question was that I thought this particular notebook would be somehow "over optimized / target" for Windows/Gaming. If true, it doesn't worth spending money on this expensive machine to simple throw Windows and put Linux. Otherwise woud be better to get a more "generic" and cheaper machine to run Linux for programming. Anyway I get your point 👍
There a few brands that make less painful to transition to Linux, but I guess are more enterprise models which works better for it, for example Dell with precision and Lenovo with thinkpad.
@@Ricebow11 yea I had the same feeling I love my 17 but I be on the move so freaking much this would be super easy to switch between the 2.. I got the maxed out version I can’t wait to actually get it in hand.
I have the 17 r4 and it’s 9lbs. I used to carry it around but now it’s just a moving and setup thing. It has a 1080 in it and enough storage and ram but it’s way to heavy to being with me every day. I ordered the maxed out x14 and am looking forward to the new 12th gen processors and the mobile 3060.
I am getting this tomorrow, wish me luck....i am tight on budget, so only getting the base model, 12th gen i5 and RTX 3050...but i need a portable device at any cost and it has always been my wish from childhood days to own an alienware....fingers crossed that this one lasts for years for me...
I am watching your video I bought me a gaming laptop it was big and bulky it weighed about 5 to 7 lb I wouldn't really take it anywhere maybe to a family member's house to show them my new gaming laptop. Then I wanted something thinner and I discover something very important that on the bigger bulkier laptop my thermals were better I'm talking about between 7 and 10 degrees cooler than a thinner gaming laptop that I bought the thinner gaming laptop the fans got really loud of course I was using my headphones it's just thinner laptops just don't do good with the hate to thin. And you hear all the time that Gamers want a thinner laptop lighter easier for Mobility I don't believe that at all you are basically cooking your parts so I will always try to go for the bigger and vocal your laptop I challenge anybody to do your own experiments and see the difference between the two big and bulky? Thinner gaming laptop.
Watching this from my x14...couldn't be any more happier.....Endgaget, Dave2D, Hardware Canucks, PC Mag, Mash IT...thank you all for helping me nail this perfect choice for my specific usecase...the only sad bit is i very badly wanted per key RGB, but oh well...maybe next one...
This laptop like most gaming laptops has integrated intel Iris Xe along with the Nvidia. I connected 4 external monitors (3 usb-c + 1 HDMI) and intel Xe supports all of the,m with gaming on one primary display. However, when Nvidia surround was anabled, (for multi monitor gaming), games span on only 2 external monitors. One on HDMI and other on the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with Power Delivery and DisplayPort. The builtin screen and any monitors connected to the other 2 usb-c thunderbolt 4 ports go black. No one games on 2 monitors because of the monitor bezels join in the centre (nvidia surround is better with 3 monitors). This renders the dual monitor support by this 'gaming' laptop useless.
Go for this one. I got the razer 14 with the 3070 tí but since it didn't bring gsync i considered it not worth that much. Sent it back and bought this one. I'm getting it this week.
@@CwalkMan3131 the G sync kicks really nice. The laptop is powerful as hell, but also noisy as hell. Gives me 165fps stable on Apex so I'm fine. Haven't tried to push iut further.
You know in my opinion I think track pads should be out of gaming laptops all together, it's a waste of space and you can improve more stuff to these midrange laptops and keyboards. And no one uses a track pad in gaming, 99% of us (including me) always uses a mouse.
While that's true most gamers use a mouse ripping out the key navigation function would be devistating. I mean most gamers also use a 27 inch monitor. If we go by your methods we should really just get a gaming box and call it a X type box station thing
Would you consider a gaming laptop with the following specifications Screen rate: 300Hz GPU: rtx 3080 / 8Gb CPU: i7 12700H Ram: 32 Gb DDR5 A no.1 device, Giant laptops competitor, or an Excellent laptop? Also, do you think the mentioned properties are good for AI tasks.
Nightmare laptop - I think you are way too easy on it! chassis rattling from the speakers! thumbs down - poor chassis, probably plastic - you didn't even say... Noisy, poor battery life, oversized, power button on the keyboard is an absolute joke! They had so much extra space for cooling vs Razor and Asus and yet, its LOUDER... In my book, its a no-go. Shoddy Dell machine.
Yeah most intelligent word I've heard Crypto is the new gold!! Due to the fall in the stock market, I don't think it's advisable holding, it would be more beneficial and yield more profit if you actually trade on cryptocurrency I've been trading since the dip, and I've made so much profit trading.
Basic UK configuration is £1648.99 up to £2299 for max specs(i7 12700H, RTX3060, 2TB ssd and 32GB DDR5 5200mhz) with Windows 11 home. Windows 11 pro will cost you additional £52.80 and you will be charged £2351.80. This is definitely premium price that you pay for build quality and Alienware brand.
Please include 1-3% or 10% lows. Average FPS is an arbitrary metric used to sell devices, instead of giving real-world performance. For an extreme example of how arbitrary 'average' is: If I drove 1 mile, and for the first half of the mile I was going exactly 50MPH and the second half of the mile I drove exactly 150MPH, I would be telling people "I drove 100MPH for a mile". Developers will lock their games' frame rates to their % lows because of how detrimental FPS drops are to experience.
I don't want "light" and "sleek". I don't want a machine with a battery I can't get to without voiding the warranty. I want it somewhat heavy, so if I get carried away gaming, I don't break it. In other words, I want quality. This isn't it. At the end of the day it's a great machine, but only if you don't mind a BIC disposable computer.
“With support for hdr colors look bright and vibrant”. That quote right there should disqualify you from being able to review laptops/screens of any kind. This panel in NO WAY is suited for hdr. It doesn’t have the brightness, contrast, or dimming zones to do hdr in any meaningful way.
