Not gonna lie, gotta love the competition. I personally prefer battery life and less heat for my uses.

Liking Zack's new durability test, the "let the kids draw" durability is really helpful in determining the drawing ease on devices.

Asus upping the ante with so many options in the thin & light laptops, super interested to see how it stacks with msi stealth.

I just want the M16 screen on the G15 - give me that AMD cost savings, efficiency and lower fan noise, but I do want that 16:10 screen.

After reading a ton of reviews on laptops and watching several of your videos, I've found there is no perfect gaming laptop. There's always a "give and take" with each gaming model. So I think in the end, find something that bothers you the most and you can scratch that model off the list.

It kinda feels like they cycle between refreshing the g14 and g15. Last year the g15 saw big improvements, this year the g14 got all the love. It just feels weirder since they already make the m16 which is literally just a better g15 chassis with an intel processor (better/worse depending on workload). Given the similar chassis, I’d have loved to see the 16:10 display at least as an upgrade. The cynic in me says they knew these new AMD processors and nvidia ti graphics cards are good enough to sell with the old design, so are just saving it for an easy upgrade next year

The battery in the AMD lasts literally 50% longer? That's... kind of the end of the competition. It's a laptop. That extra 2 hours on the desktop, browsing etc, is everything.

Been a while since you did a "what's in my bag" or an EDC episode would love to know your current mouse, watch, phone case if you use any

3:52 "300 Nits" What a shame, that is my biggest deal-breaker of the G15 right there. 500 Nits SDR brightness should be the bare minimum at this price with the upgrade option to HDR (OLED/miniLED).

And here I sit with a Dell XPS 9700.. and think to myself.. I've modded it, I've repasted it.. undervolted it. And it's still only pushing out 10500pts in Cinebench R23 at 75W. That's 16% better than stock. But literally A year later - We get chips that perform like 60% better easily. I'm lost for words.

Thank you Dave for including much info about fan noise. It's something that is far too often overlooked in reviews by others.

The g15 with a 16:10 and vapor chamber would have been almost perfect. Really not a fan of the white. I really think the 6900HS is more versitile than intels chips, Igpu is great if you want to game on say 65 watts total in igpu mode.

I have the G14, in white. But gotta say, the M16 in black looks dope.

Imagine going back into 2017 and saying you could have the cpu power of a 18 core iMac Pro and the gpu power of a 1080 ti in a laptop that weights 4.5 lbs. you would be laughed off the stage lol.

Asus is doing great these days, the M16 is very tempting - though I would like to see a little bit higher quality materials to be used for my own personal taste.

Such an awesome review and I've been waiting for this one! Really wanted last year's G15 but couldn't afford it at first and then they sold out 😭 fingers crossed and toes that I can snag one of these bad boys later this year when I have the money finally saved. It'll be my first gaming PC ever and I can't wait to try out NiER Automata and FFXV!

@Dave2D, why Asus/others sabotaging the AMD line up although they're more energy efficient? Why not an all AMD system (G16) with 16" better quality screen and AMD GPU? Oh I get it then no one will buy M16 :p Intel and its EndGame!

Bought g15 2021 edition end of December and this is the best laptop I have ever owned. Yea Asus did add more features for 2022 but 2021 model still is ridiculously amazing

Hi Dave, I’m not a gamer but I do watch all your vids. I do however need a fast machine as does my wife for work. I love my M1 Pro 14” but she is die hard windows currently using XPS. She needs an upgrade - my question is what is a windows alternative to the m1 pro machine? I’m expecting to pay similar amounts that I did for my 14”

Why don't they put AMD in the M16? It's a more well rounded package, might as well give it the more balanced cpu for better battery life. The performance loss wouldn't be noticed.

Bought the M16 (2022) with 12700H/RTX3060 for 1650usd. You cant beat this kind of performance for this price.. beats easily the average 9th to 10th gen Desktop setup... But as D2D says.. its crazy loud on Turbo..

I think AMD chips get a good balace between battery life and performance. Intel 12th gen is great and performs better than ryzen but the battery life is disappointing.

Lost me completely at MediaTek still being used. That card is the hottest piece of garbage I've ever dealt with in a machine. Last time I tried to replace it in a since-returned G15 the screw was locked in so tight it was stripped to hell and back. Couldn't get the thing out. So many of these laptops are refusing to use Intel Wi-Fi cards now and I absolutely don't understand why. I've issues up and down the wall with RealTek and MediaTek cards, I really just want a machine that's using Intel cards again.

i hope the screen doesnt turn yellow from the exhaust for a long time

I already wear noise cancelling headphones while I game so fan noise is a non-issue for me

Thanks for the review. I am so excited to see all these new gen laptops that are really an upgrade. Just curious that ASUS didn't remove the bottom chin from the G15, as they did with the G14. Extra screen space is always good.

it's very simple to put a vbios that allows for more wattage on the 3080, running mine at 130W up from 100W

So, after watching several videos for a long time period, I can safely say that for university students who plan to game, we can just buy a 1500$ if there's the budget, and it can last for years. Fair reminder though that if you're studying, obviously gaming should be a secondary priority at best, but it's good to know you have something that can handle stuff thrown at it. For example, I know a guy that doesn't game, but has a powerful laptop. A week ago, he wanted to edit a video for a friend, so his laptop could handle it fairly enough.

got an m16 last year on christmas, super happy with it but it does definitely run loud on turbo mode but never gets that hot

im switching back to intel laptop, thunderbolt is a god send for laptops, almost a must.... I love my AMD 5900HS, but i need thunderbolt i really miss it

Am I the only person that doesn't care about these pointless spec bumps every year? I just want a reliable, well made laptop with strong battery life and ergonomics at a reasonable price. I went through three G15s last year that all had crazy QC bugs before giving up, including the fan bug you mention. Well documented with no fix. RU-vidrs need to chill with how important ultimate performance for video rendering actually is to most people and actually live with these machines for a while.

I am using the i9-12900 m16 and I am loving it.

I just got this laptop a week ago, after using it for everything from work to games, I just want people buying this for games to watch out for thermal throttling. After some software tweaks it is better now, but definitely know that its not just you.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think this is a reliable assessment. After 2 months from the purchase of the M16 2022 version with i9 12th, rtx3070ti, 16gb Ram, I had several problems, and in response the ASUS support turned out to be even worse than this laptop. - Inaccurate A and Z keys, only half of the time takes the lead. - Even in balance mode and with one or two simple applications like Chrome or listening to music, the fans start to rocket and there is no way to slow them down except by restarting the whole thing. - The battery is a miracle if it reaches 3 hours in silent mode and with 70% monitor There might be other little things, but I don’t want to dwell. I am waiting for Asus assistance.

I really like the G15 for it's better price to performance and battery life. However, I LOVE the screen on the M16 and will pick it over the G15 every time until Asus updates the G15 to the same 16:10 display.

I am planning to get the M16 but I'm now confused after Dave said this at (6:50) I want to be able to game, stream, animate, prolly some video editing and most importantly create music I would love some advise/suggestions. Should I go for the new M16? I've been eyeing since the last version and now that I know the specs are better I want it more!

i think you should be smart here ...what ever benchmark is ....you must focus on performance/ wattage usage ....this is "laptop" not "desktop" ....when you plug in the power supply all the time you better buy "desktop" not laptop.....seems like you forget about the philosophy of laptop

Im really confused on which laptop i should get either m16, G14 or G15. SOmeone help me out i would like to game but also i like to bring it to almost everywhere alot to study and do school work.

Yeah I’ll take the lower fan noise and better battery life of the G15 (and no fingerprints). Also the iGPU performance on the G15 should be significantly better than that of the M16 this year

It's pretty sad that again, better AMD chip is put inside a worse laptop chasis than intel. If there were 2 M16 variants one with AMD one with Intel nobody would buy intel.

Seriously love your reviews! But this one surprised me to be honest. I waited all last year to get an M16 with a decent GPU, but the 3070 version never came to the US. As soon as this 3070 Ti model was available I snatched it. Now I've been using the Razer 14 and I have loved it but I wanted that bigger screen for what I do. The screen on the M16 is incredible no doubt, but overall the fan noise is so bad I couldn't take it. I had to return it. Anything I did on it that needed the slightest performance boost required the fans to be cranked and they are horribly loud. Excellent screen, but build quality for the price left something to be desired, battery life is not great, and just too loud. So I was shocked you recommended it as I didn't feel the performance outweighed the fan noise.

Bold statement saying best laptop of 2021 🥴… My g15 lasted a week before it completely failed. Upgraded to an omen 17” with the 11800h and 140w 3070 when I returned the pos g15 for the same price and haven’t looked back.

Only HDMI 2.0b instead to 2.1 is a limitation in M16.

I wouldn't call it dethroned, I'd call it sharing a seat at the top. I'd say the G15 is more power efficient than the M16 is performant when it comes to comparing the two, but it's really just dependant on what you're gonna do with it.

The M16 feels like a direct competitor to the Razer Blade 15/17 for creatives that are looking for the extra graphical performance in the thin & light laptop category. I think at the high end all models come with 3080ti with 16GB of vram and 32GB of ram. Of course the Blade 15 gets a lot less wattage compared to the M16 and Blade 17 so that's something to consider too on top of the price.

Personally, I'm exited to get anything with thunderbolt 4 and save for an E-GPU!

The throttle issue happens time to time on my last year G15 too. Guess it's smth with the fans that isn't optimized as it should. But luckily it happens rarely and pretty quick, so it's just a slight annoyans when it happens at least.

Dave you gotta stop using Overwatch a 5 year old title to benchmark 2022 hardware please bruh something that matches the hardware release date or only 1 year old.

The 2022 M16 is my first ever gaming laptop and I got to say I love it. It’s fast and plays all games at max settings. For the fan noise just put on headphones and boom no noise but it might annoy people around you.

I don't understand why ASUS doesn't make a G16 instead of a G15. AMD's efficiency is so much more attractive than the extra performance for a lot of people (such as myself), but the 16" screen and extra brightness makes a massive difference. Why can't we just have a 16" AMD machine?

Oh man, I thought the g15 would get all updates that its lil brother the G14 got (16:10, camera module). Atleast it got that camera, but the 16:10 ratio means the M16 and G14 are the only real considerations unless you really want a 2nd m.2 slot over bigger screen ratio.
