Fun fact: I'm not even interested in gaming laptops (or in any laptop at the moment) but I watch the entirety of every single video he drops just because of his voice and he being so chill
Ubisoft is giving away far cry 3 I have never played it I'm very poor so free but it's again asking activation key what to do plz tell bro you can do it bro
When I bought my R10, an entire month went by with no one answering me about my order, their customer service is absolute trash at best. They started billing me a day before the computer arrived and they were super mum on details right up to when it came (February 2020). I would say 3/10 and I will never buy from them again. Hardware issues i won't even get into.
Now that's a thorough review. The small size of the Function keys are easy to miss when reviewing but Dave2D caught it right on. I appreciate your work.
8:34 Such a cool designed laptop ( this could be an asset from Portal when RGB is on blue ) with ALL the power and nice cooling. There are other laptops with similar tech in them, but they can hardly keep themself cool under load... That power- adaptler looks like its from the 90s tho :)
haha right? It looks ancient and it doesn't match the laptop's aesthetic at all. I wonder if it has an LED at the end though, that could make up for it somewhat XD
I've had terrible experience with their Killer wi-fi card. Had to replace it with generic Intel one to get wi-fi to work reliably. So glad they thought of that and it is now permanently soldered on to a board. Good job Alienware!
Here is my experience with Alienware. I remember back in the day when I used to game a lot. Alienware products were just fascinating. The option to have a max of 2 GPU’s in a laptop and up to 3 gpus in a normal desktop case was a beautiful option. At the time, their highest spec pc (Area 51) cost right around 11k dollars. That was the option with three Nvidia Titan X. I also owned the 17 inch laptop that they have had. In the last years as you said had some problems since i was literally burning my fingers playing COD Black Ops 2, because the computer has gotten so hot! (Even cleaning the vent from dust has it not made better) The thing that really annoyed me, was the fact that both of these computers that I have owned from Alienware, always broke during Christmas/new year. (Seems sus to me at least) I remember my laptop breaking the 20th December, the screen started flashing green lines…. The GPU was fried….. Then with the Area 51 suddenly was not turning on again, this time the motherboard has been broken. How? I don’t know, i haven't done anything to it and no breakers popped. What did Alienware do? They brought in a new motherboard, they came into my house trying to fix it. I felt bad for the guy that came to repair it, he clearly has been beaten up 2 days before. He had scratches and bruises everywhere. What did Dell do? Since the motherboard has not been produced anymore, they gave me a “repaired” motherboard. After changing the motherboard the CPU cooler fan ran at 100%, running it at 80db. That's a loud cryptominer or a car passing by on the street, standing near such a sound source can ruin your hearing if you have it sitting near you all the time. Of course you can turn it on, but would you want to? You can not play on this thing because your ears would get sensitive and your mates would cry around after 5 minutes because that thing was super loud and you mic was picking all that noise up. Now its just sitting in my corner, its sitting there with 3 Titan X and you don't want to use it just by the sheer sound the cooler is generating. There is nothing I can do, i tried fixing it with software but there was no chance fixing it. Since then I became a Razer customer, their Laptops are simply fantastic, they don't break that much. And if something does not work? Well instead someone coming home to you, you have to send it in. But I’ll rather go that route than a pc that is breaking every 2-3 months. If you really really want an Alienware, make sure that you have some money and patience on your hands. At the time I made my money through crypto, if I would have had patience and money it would have been a very very very expensive paper weight! Edit: Minor Fixing of some things
More like "We can't send many if any review units because we are backed up AF and customers are already chomping at the bit.". Honestly I think they have been trying to get every single machine into the people's hands that bought one. Mine took a few delays and me almost cancelling it completely. But I get it. Computer in customers hands = money. Reviewers help with the money but not with the guys who already purchased. Piss them off and no reviewer can fix that.
Being that everything is in a state of shortages, it's no surprise they want to just sell them all. And Dave bought one themself and quite highly praised it.
Actually modern Killer cards are really just Intel cards under a different name since Intel owns Killer now. All you have to do is uninstall all their software using their tool and then you have essentially a regular Intel wifi card.
@@goovindnarula6470 I have a Razer blade 2017 that uses a killer wifi card, I was getting 30mbps in my room, after I changed it out for an Intel wifi card, I got 200mbps.

Just got an M15 R6 (i7, GTX 1070, 1TB SSD) 2 days before and its just amazing, the body is so sleek, performance is top notch and the built is solid. It looks so unique and unlike any other laptop brand on the planet. Really love it.
Good review. I recently bought myself an x17 (my first Alienware laptop) with the 4K display. I agree with most things in this review. The absence of a number pad on the keyboard is disappointing, but wasn't a deal breaker. Having all the connection ports on the rear is annoying. Speakers aren't that great, but I have just connected my external speakers so not a huge issue. My main concern is how hot, not warm, but hot! it gets when I start playing games, despite the fans running flat-out and being loud as. If you are looking for a new Alienware laptop, maybe hold out of the second series of this current line and hopefully Dell will rectify these current "flaws".
I wish they could make theses things cooler, but I don't think it's possible. In the summer it's so hard to keep my R4 from lagging bc it gets so hot. The one before this, I'd have to go outside in the fall/winter for WoW raids.
I don't get why they removed the numpad, that's a no no for me. I need that numpad. It's sad just when I want to consider purchasing a superior Dell laptop for the first time, they remove something which I need not just for gaming, but 3D softwares too. I'm sad. Looks like I'll have to look somewhere else.
@@louisbenedict75 Bruv it's not for anyone. I'm a casual developer and gamer and my first take for laptop is that I steer faraway from numpad. That includes the mech keyboards I have too. You'd be surprised that a lot of people hate the numpad for its disproportionate hands location (shifted to the left)
Such a great review, I was on the fence to get this sometime later this year. Might just get the next iteration, I need great speakers, I am sure others would too. Thanks, Dave!
I wish dave sometimes includes how it looks on backpacks 🤔 even in that way you can still sponsor backpacks and get paid thats plus for but us we got to see how it looks and fits in backpacks ❤️ I SO HOPE DAVELEE SEES THIS AND INCLUDES THIS IN HIS UPCOMING LAPTOP REVIEWS
Good review, i own this same, same specs and indeed it runs cooler at everything i throw at it. Great Job Alienware! Thanks Dave for your review, i appreciate your honest review.
@@d1grizz I have the same laptop. I agree with that speakers issues. But I try to change the audio settings in Alienware Command Center and after turning off the bass boost, my hearing experience improved a little. But I can still sometimes hear the harshness or undesired noise from my left speaker. Overall the speakers are just terrible in such an expensive laptop, after adjusting the audio settings, it is better but still far away from a good speaker. The good fact is that while gaming as long as you use headphones there is no issue lol. Or you can always connect the device with a Bluetooth speaker. On the other hand, the thermal control is pretty good. I downvolt my cpu and here is my experience with APEX Legends. Video down to 2K, other settings remain highest. The gpu temp is lower than 70 and cpu is around 70-73. Hope these could help u make the decisions.
I love my X15, 3080! If I could change anything it would be the color to be the same as the MacBook Pro space gray. The white color is amazing but I have to be too cautious to keep it clean and minimize discoloring from surfaces.
@@rustler08 Personally, neither does not bother me as much since I built a gaming PC with Trident Z royal 128gb ram (overkill and unnecessary for my mainly gaming usage lol), and accessibility to upgrade my older Z390 Maximus Hero XI motherboard if I want to. Also, considering that the X15 comes with 32gb of ram, I believe it’s sufficient for me and what I use it for which is just gaming on the go. Second M.2 slot for SSD expansion was what I was most happy with. But for anyone that prefers to have an all in one gaming laptop with ease of accessibility to the motherboard for thermal repasting and non-soldered ram for upgrade ability; yes I would definitely want it change for them because at this price range for a high end gaming laptop, consumers should definitely be able to upgrade easily to maximize performance and thermals!
When I started looking at this laptop a couple weeks ago my first thought was to go to your channel and see what you had to say about it. To my surprise you didn't have anything about the laptop. Not very many youtubers did either ... Today this video came up and my first thought was '' Hey there it is '' lol I did end up ordering this laptop. Should have it next month.
I've bought the M17 R4 like six months ago and it's a killer, I don't game too often but when I use it it's a beast. Like all Alienware laptops out there.
Nice. What kind of specs did you get? I’ve ordered an x15 with a 3060 graphics card and 240hz refresh screen (because I needed the smaller laptop to accomodate uni productivity work and for gaming) and mine is supposed to arrive on September 22nd after I ordered it August 15. I’m just concerned it will get delayed even more, but if you’ve gotten yours recently then perhaps mine won’t get delayed beyond the expected delivery date 🙏
@@anmolverma7761 bruh heh, it might be funny. But I was sincerely taken by surprise the way they were talking about it so casually My guy, that money can feed a middle class family for at least 3 months.
@@JstormZx true that man. Im waiting for my budget friendly MSI laptop so that I could finally run some good Dota2. And yeah, people with different income backgrounds do talk differently about most things 😂
Ironically the very day this laptop was released, I bought my R4 lol. I had actually thought about canceling and switching my order but it was already in process (Dell's customer support was long enough lol). I constantly had "what if" thoughts, but once my R4 got here, I've had no regrets so far. Still I can't deny how sleek pretty the x15/x17 look!
I love this laptop, however it definitely does have some build quality flaws. I've had the plastic trim crack, albeit small. Hardware and build Issues aside, it's been wonderful for rendering and gaming.
@@luisfernando55 It does, it's covered under the standard warranty. I sent it in and had a replacement within a week or so. Which was surprising, because Dell support is usually garbage.
I got the Asus strix scar 15 for my rendering needs since I have been seeing lots of the Alienware x series laptops having issues with keyboards not responding and some issues with the screens. I just hope I don't regret my decision
I'm not even a computer person, but I watch all his reviews, even his computer reviews because I just like his style of video and his honesty. I'm sure I'm not the only one like that.
I asked Alienware to delay your review unit so that my review could actually get some views.. lol kidding loved your review as usual Dave! You’re definitely an inspiration.
When the Dell Alienware X17 first came out I looked into purchasing one. Had an order in place, cancelled it, and decided to wait till something else came around. I went with the Lenovo Legion 7i instead. The main reason why I decided to go for the Lenovo Legion 7i was it is equipped 16 inch 1440P monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio. After seeing how it looked on an Asus Zephyrus M16 that had the similar monitor on display at my local BestBuy I felt for me that was the sweet spot. I didn't have to choose between two resolution extremes of 4K or 1080P that the Alienware X17 has. If Alienware had provided an option with a 1440P panel on their X17 I feel it would have provided a good mix of power and design.
My guess is for the one color is because the Lunar White model color kept decoloring, I had very lightly used my area 51m in white and the keyboard was turning brown where palm rest is. This was with washing my hands before every use and never eating or having grease on my hands. When I called they replaced the part for free and told me they were re-creating a new plastic that had a protection layer to stop this from happening. My warranty was ending so I took the replacement part which was the same original plastic in white. I beleive they did the black inside just trying to avoid the decoloring all together. Mabey they never finished the RND on the new product material.
I've been waiting for this review for a long time. I actually ordered a 3070 because of the compact frienly size power brick, since my main priority is Gaming, 3080 is a wasted money and i don't like the gigantic heavy combat power brick. This is a straight forward review that DAVE2D all precise 👌. Im very excited to get mine before end of this month hope it is worth it. Nonetheless, Alienware never dissapoint me the fact that it will be my 3rd Alienware Laptop.
Ur da man Dave, i love it when Dell gets roasted publicly.. Dell went all out to improve thermals and rainbow trackpad this time, but the progress to see them come up with a solid end product could take a while. Next major upragde is audio and software department.
@@PCBuggs Doesn't work. It didn't work in X15 and neither does it work in X17. For some reason, there is no "lid close" setting for either of them. Also, this battery/powerplan settings do not have a lid close setting in them.
@@sien9492 Hahaha sorry, let me clarify. I needed a powerful laptop and this review took so long to come out that I am happy I took the gamble and got it a while ago. Because the laptop did not disappoint.
The lack of a 1440p option is a bummer. That would have made it perfect!!! Imagine a 1440p screen, 240hz with Advanced Optimus and g-sync!!!!? That’s why I cancelled my order, I just couldn’t go through with it in the end.
@@Poeticbladezero closest to your requirement would be Lenovo Legion 7(AMD) / 7i (Intel) 16'. They have 16:10 1440p 165Hz G-Sync screens with Advanced Optimus boosted by 165W RTX 3080.
@@Poeticbladezero Eluktronics MAX 17, a Tong Fang chassis with Ryzen, 1440p 165Hz, 92Wh battery, and Advanced Optimus for 2.2 kg. Better than Lenovo IMO, and you get over 7 hours of battery life on a 17" gaming laptop. Also uses Maximum Wattage GPUs, and is pretty much easy to find in any country.
@@paulsciacca6126 you are right, I considered it, the amount of ports available in the x15 is unacceptable to me though…..and the power wattage is just not enough either….such a pity
“Companies do this thing where they don’t send me devices when they know I’m gonna take a steaming dump on it” Hmm… like a shark smelling blood in the water
Bought an X17 due to cooling solution and impressive engineering. Wish it had 1440p screen with mux or Optimus instead of dumb 4k screen that I bought. Amazing speakers would be nice too. Overall very happy with my purchase it's important for a powerful Gpu laptop that is thin to have amazing cooling. Otherwise you have a burnt out dead laptop within 2 years. Which happened to both my msi and asus gaming laptops
Wow, 9:20 and u were wondering why they didn't send you review unit lol. Speaking of the X17, no Advanced Optimus is an absolute deal breaker, I mean come on.
This is exactly why I bought a Clevo based unit... I think the big MSI and Clevo units are the only ones left with the level of customization that I really think anyone buying a machine of this class is going to want
@@Hoa.... a few months out of warranty it started BSODing a few times a week for a month or two, until one day it never turned back on. When it was "working," the thermals were atrocious and sometimes it wouldn't even throttle and let the laptop go in to thermal protection and shut it self off.
Dave: “Companies don’t send me devices when they know I’m gonna take a steaming dump on it” Also Dave: “You don’t even need to hear them. They’re trash. They give you the expected terrible laptop speakers.”
"I feel like Alienware has -the- worst software in the gaming market right now" I bought an Aero 15 a couple of months ago... it's not necessarily a gaming laptop, but I'm pretty sure its control software would give Alienware a close race to the bottom.
Me watching this on an Alienware x17 be like oh I've seen this one before, what do you mean you've seen this before, its brand new. Good video and review keep up the good work.
Got my x15 a couple weeks ago, had issue with going into sleep mode. After 4 hours with tech support, windows crashed completely... returning the unit 😆
I can't wait until Mr. Dave2D reviews the new X16 that's coming out for Alienware. I can care less about the RGB and mechanical keyboard. What appeals to me about the latest x series is its slim design and its ports on the back. Also, I'm unsure how I'm going to feel about the new Lunar Silver color. Hopefully, we see a review!
MacBook speakers are freakin amazing, I was watching a movie through my tv off my girlfriends MacBook Pro, I went to turn the tv up and it was on 0. I was like where is the sound coming from then? She was like.... the lap top. Very impressive speakers for such a thin laptop.
Just returned my asus M16 w/3060 for this machine with a 3070. Cooling is infinitely better on this and I was able to get it open box excellent condition from best buy for $1574!!!!! Crazy good deal
New Jersey Dell replaced my burned motherboard next day- took 4 years warranty on my XPS 15. They are amazing fixing mine 3 times 2 years all in a day or 2. May be some bad rep on Dell side causing grief for some.
