I think you're misinformed with many things, but as an Alienware X17 owner myself I absolutely agree with you on the subject that I don't get why on earth they're pushing thinness while almost no gamer out there cares about that. I wouldn't mind if my X17 would be as thick as the Area 51 if that means better cooling and replaceable parts like gpu and cpu. That's a huge plus even if they won't let me upgrade them, because at least if those chips fail, I can replace them individually instead of having to replace the whole mainboard. The Area 51 is hands down the most gorgeous looking laptop Alienware has ever made and literally no one cared how thick it was, and if they ever release an R3 version someday, I would definitely sell my X17 to get that instead

hes not misinformed at all how can you even say that. Alienware laptops have been getting lower and lower quality and less ports its annoying as hell and there is no reason to put a 300hz screen on a laptop that can only get 150 frames at most.

cooling is king. Area 51 is a great HTPC. Big fans, big cooling, nominal noise, excellent performance. The only problem is that Dell is involved.

Your title is Alienware getting worse but then you provide no proof of this. The x17 is the best laptop they have made for years It runs the cpu and gpu at max wattage recommended by intel and nvidia. There is maybe 2 other big brand laptops that do this, and from the testing I have seen the x17 is more powerful, quieter and cooler then its competitors. Happy for you to provide evidence that proves otherwise. What do you want them to do? Pump 300w into the gpu, have it blow up and then provide new ones to customers out of their own pockets? Just for it to blow up again. People keep comparing the x17 to the area 51m The area 51m was a desktop replacement The x17 is a laptop? It's pointless if it's so big and heavy that it's not practical to carry around, just get a desktop in that case.

Yeah you bring up some good points, When I had the area 51m I treated it like a laptop and yes it was big and bulky but that was straight up the best machine I have ever had and the best machine they have ever made. They market it as "World's most powerful and overclockable gaming laptop." and even though its also called a desktop replacement its still a laptop. There trying way to hard to please the masses they should stick to what is best. If you had to choose a machine most likely you would pick the area 51m. The thing is if they where still offering the area 51m then it would be a different story but from the looks of it they killed it off to focus on making thin gaming laptops how lame...

I’m deciding between the x17. Legion 7i and Clevo desktop replacement. I really want to talk myself into the clevo but 8.5lbs just isn’t practical. The legion 7i ships in 2+ months but I can get an x17 now. Choices suck

Totally agree, man. I am researching to buy a new laptop with a Numpad, excellent cooling and thermals, a nice camera, and I don't care if it's thick. But I found like 2 or 3 of them, and I have to renounce some of those desired features anyway. It's frustrating. Also because we are talking about 3.000$ machines or higher. I own an Alienware 17R4 (end of 2017) which is fantastic. But now it is getting old, and I'll pass it to my wife to do photoshop work, which will be absolutely fantastic. But I can't find my new one... XD maybe MSI stealth 77? Zephyrus s17? I don't know. I would have gone with the Alienware 17R5 tbh if they kept selling it. :/

Sorry for any typos or incorrect info, I ain't an expert plus I was drunk at the time of writing this. @SERGE About the performance of x17 and comparison of older iterations of Alienware. According to your video, there is no significant improvement with new Alienware models which is essentially not true, It's not like Alienware is degrading their laptops over the year by not releasing a laptop that could compete with the same spec Desktop rather it's more like Desktop versions of CPU and GPU(mostly GPU) are now more power-hungry and needs better thermal solutions which are easy to Implement in a Desktop but hard in a laptop and hence these chips(laptop) have lowered power draw (and thus lower performance). So easy answer to your question in your video is: Manufactures doesn't have the magic thermal solution that would allow the chips in the laptop to run at their max potential. But hey they are getting better. However, I do agree that they can make it thicker for better cooling but unfortunately, it still would not be enough for the new iteration of CPU's and GPU's to compete with their Desktop counterparts(also I believe the ratio of thickness versus Performance is not worth the extra fatness i.e. few extra frames for a bulky laptop even if it is being used as Desktop replacement) and I believe the X17 is to please the wider audience instead of just Performance junkies( just my opinion). About the Panels. Even an i9-3090 would struggle to achieve the 140hz on new AAA games. So, these laptops are being shipped with them 'coz they are meant to use for the eSport titles (eg. CS:GO, LOL etc.- Can run at 220+ frames with the laptop being tested in this video) plus it's near impossible to have wasted frames with such high FPS panel so I see it as an absolute win ;-) Are Alienware getting worse over time: Maybe Look at M15 r5/r6 it's an absolute mess. X17... Not so.

Just sent mine back after waiting forever. I purchased the black friday x17 deal. It arrived with dead pixels. After less than a week of use the command center stopped functioning and the start menu would no longer work. It was extremely buggy. I had the area 51 m on order but cancelled it. Guess I’ll regret that forever

Yeah I have the x17 right now and it’s screen starts flickering and going crazy with artifacts I think it’s related to gpu. Yeah the area 51m is truly the beast the Alienware needs to continue making. Actually there are insanely good deals on ebay for these machines get one for 2k USD with a 2080 r1 and you can get a 2080 super r2 for about 2.5k. Ebay is also offering warranty. Something to consider. Did you enjoy the video? It seems like I have offended some people…

You are definitely misinformed...first of nVidia designed the Laptop 3070 GPU to max at 140 watts and the 3080 to 165 watts due to power limitations of the laptop...the desktop GPU versions suck up 300 watts to 400 watts alone...sure you can get a laptop that uses 2 x 330 watt power supplies, but then limiting portability you might as well get a desktop. You are barking on the wrong tree...if anything Alienware is running both CPU and GPU at the max limit...blame nVidia and Intel for designing their chips that way for laptops. Your complaining about games not running at 360 fps? Not even a $10,000 Desktop with all the top end specs can run games at 360 fps. Before posting a video, verify your information is accurate first.

It seems like the video is annoying people... that was not my intention... do you think I should remove it? another youtuber who hated dared me to start my own channel after he blocked me so here I am... struggling away lol... idk I don't think the portability is that limited but I guess there's still a compromise and I'm willing to make it. So why put a panel that has 360 hertz if you can only game at like 100 hertz what's the point? isnt it a waste? doesn't that mean they are wasting there resources? Very good point maybe they should make there chips more efficient and run cooler. 10k machine can actually run at 360 fps just need a machine like the mac pro and it can probably pull it off. m1 mac pro could probably do it if its ever released -_-" Sorry for having inaccurate information ill make sure to do a better job... You can play some games at 360 fps but most of them are e-sport titles meaning its not a graphically intensive game. Ok show me a system that can rum Tomb Raider, Gears of Wars, Microsoft Flight Sim, Cyber Punk and other graphically intense game at max setting that runs at 360 fps. Alienware did make a close to Desktop Laptop the Area 51m...but it didn't sell well...not a lot of people want to carry 2 power supplies so they killed it. Mac Pro, M1? Ok show me a review that actually says they can run these games at 360 fps.... Ill wait... People are getting mad cause your video does not have merit...you somehow wanted a same desktop gaming performance on a laptop, believe me we all want that but no manufacturer out there can do that yet...not even Apple M1 while impressive its not there yet either. Good for you starting your own channel...but if you dont have enough correct information to back your claims then your channel is not going anywhere. Like I said before you post something do your research first

It's not so much the laptop manufacturers gimping the components. The component manufacturers need to come out with more efficient components especially when it comes to GPUs. A desktop RTX 30 series card requires up to 600 watts to properly power. The absolute best most laptop manufacturers can do and still be mildly convenient is 180 watts but the average is about 130 watts for gaming laptops. And laptop manufacturers can't go much higher without adding more battery power which would result in their laptops not being compliant with airlines which a 100mh battery is the absolute max which is what MSI uses already and it's just not enough to power such demanding components properly.

@@SERGE_Tech well i don’t know if you have seen the x17 3090 with i9 hk processor my buddy has his tuned and that gpu can push 200w with no issue and he had all his processors running at 5.0ghz clock with no overheating. His temps where 75c on gpu and 80c on cpu which is damn good! He was gaming at 4k 100fps. X17 max config alienware nailed it! Now my x15 that i have is good as well on cooling! I gamed for 8hours and my cpu temps where 69c-72c and gpu temps where 70-76c very impressive and we both play our games maxed out and dlss on quality! X15 can definitely handle more power and they for sure gimped the heck out of it as on halo infinite im running 67fps max and lowest 48fps all on campaign which is pathetic! My wife m15 r4 3070 out performs the x15 gpu wise but gets about 5c hotter.

If you are having performance issues while gaming, there are videos that talk more about improving performance on the x17. For example - It looks like you purchased one with the 16 gb ram, they say to replace the ram because it comes with a high density ram stick to a low density ram, which bogs down performance. For the 360 hertz panel, try disabling optimus in your bios will boost and possibly stabilize fps in your games. In your video is see significant amount of fluctuations between 100 to 70 fps in the gta demo.

I think you there is no need in disabling optimus via BIOS because you can do it via manager display mode if you want to run everything in GPU only mode
