This genius. Uggh. The port de bras is so fluid and yet exact. The point work is brilliant and I love this about Ms. Somova. Her feet are quite 'short' in relation to the length of her legs so her specificity with her point work could be missed. Not so. Brilliant!
Alina’s performance is Best of the best! Most amazing Aurora and the long legs are just perfect and perfectly controlled. Absolutely perfectly trained beautiful long legs following the music with finesse and elegance.
Much better than Nunez. Sleeping beauty can be collectively summarized as a dance of rock solid balance + upper body spriteness. Each of your steps have to be completely stable whereas your upper body has to be girly and free. Not to mention the nuances of head orientation and facial expressions. Somova in this variation demonstrated how it should be done. Not perfect, but very close to the gold standard.
She did indeed improve significantly and this is no surprise. As a principal, she works for every role with a highly professional teacher and every element gets corrected , fixed, modified, polished and perfected. So, the final production is a perfect stage performance on every level, technique, artistry, upper body and lower body, every movement, musicality, vibrant strong stage presence , so well controlled beautiful long legs- ear after year
I agree with you I hate how she is so choppy, and her extreme long legs only help making it look more choppy, but I think for a variation like this I forgive her because it kinds of also shows the young and naive princess. I don't know but for me it helps with making Aurora even more aurora
Her lower body movements are *slightly* choppy, but it is a matter of her proportions and she more than makes up for it with her musicality and port de bras. There is plenty of flow here. If her shaky beginning wasn't crazily hyped and predicted to be the downfall of ballet as we know it, NO ONE would still be criticizing her dancing in such a finite and sweeping way, not after seeing her perform like this.
