I have seen so many sugar plum fairies whose dance moves seem almost random and seem to have nothing to do with the nuances of the music. . This performance is an absolutely exquisite reflection of the music. Thank you for posting this wonderful video.
This is BY FAR the best choreo for the sugar plum fairy I've seen so far. Finally someone who understands music and the power of it. The dancer is giving a stunning performance!
I'm a totally amateur at ballet but even I can tell I just witnessed something special. There's just something about the way she moves that is so ethereal and magical. Perfect for this position!
Please everyone, don't write any rude comments. If you don't like Alina, just don't watch her videos, or maybe express your criticism in a polite way! ;) Any rude and/or dirty comments will be reported to RU-vid.
That's something I'm also often surprised about - why do people watch videos about things or persons they DON'T like? It's probably they vent their anger on somebody. No matter who.
I work in construction, so I never ever watched ballet in my life. Then my daughter had a Nutcracker related school project and I watched it with her. I secretly fell in love with ballet immediately. This is the third Sugar Plum Fairy I watched and I must say that this Alina lady is the best so far. How can anyone say anything negative about that performance? Maybe a professional who can spot flaws, but luckily I am not because I would want to stay ignorant, to enjoy this graceful woman floating across the stage like a real fairy. Any recommendations for other ballets are welcome. I will watch them all lol
Alina doesn't dance the Sugar Plum Fairy, she is the Sugar Plum Fairy. Tchaikovsky wrote this music especially for her,she inhaled it all of it. What an enjoyment. Thanks
Best Sugar Plum Fairy choreography. I’ve seen the other older video floating around RU-vid with this same choreo and it’s still so captivating. Every note has a corresponding move.
Everyone on ballet talk must be a snob, some people 'who like ballet' say: she must be really good, or else why would she be a principal? Somova has always been an unpopular dancer, known for her extreme lack of technique. What we see in Alina Somova is the infecting the art of ballet.
PERHAPS because they could NEVER be ALINA SOMOVA!!!🙌 HAVE SEVERAL SEATS you who are of the insolent hater ilk!!! Haters ALWAYS find ways to diminish a wonderful talent/ soul. Alina is a Queen!!! A queen in the one of the BEST BALLET CO's. in our World! Let THAT sink in HATERS!😡
I love how she is dancing like a true ballerina! However, she is a little sharp on the details in the beginning such as odette in swan lake. She has pride in her works, which is extremely "jaw-dropping" to see! :)
Her dancing is beautiful! That bit around the one minute mark where she goes backwards across the stage is simply exquisite; she looks like she's floating. If I may ask, though, why was the decision made to slow down the tempo to this extent? It's a bit of a jarring thing to do to a piece of music that everyone knows so well.
As a dancer I thoroughly believe imo that this is slowed down for Alina to embody the movement with her long & extended facility. Just This variation imo is like a petit allegro which works well on tiny dancers. She's NOT tiny. Yet she IS FIERCE!🔥
I don't think so... I just checked her repertory, she did Masha in Mariinsky in 1996 but I doubt if you can find videos that far back... and she has never done it in Bolshoi (which is for good reasons because if you look at the casts of such role in Bolshoi, Ekaterina Maximova, Nina Kaptsova, Anna Nikulina, Evgenia Obraztsova, they are not of the similar shape and height).
I wonder why they cut so much of the music. Not just the manege at the end but also the bit before the repeat of the main musical theme. It's a shame really.
