Wow, what a dream. When I was her age I contacted quite a few airports about ultralights hoping to get into the fun. I actually drew up plans to build one too after studying books about design. Never got there. It is quite the honor to see her do this at such an age. Thank you very much for sharing!
You are so lucky to have a strip right in your yard. Its superb to watch Alinas development. Continue to be so impressed with her fast response on the controls 5:39 during what appeared to be stong wind or turbulence? I wish I had been able to fly at 14! I can see her in fast jets even carrier duty with her reactions like this. She has definitely 'got the ball'. Great work Alina. You have an incredible daughter Sir.
Kudos to the young lady. And Kudos to the courageous dad who had the care and confidence, the patience and the time to teach the necessary and sufficient knowledges to develop his daughter's skills. She will go far and he may gratiously accept his due praise.
I cannot say how impressed I am with this young lady. Kudos to you, dad, for the training you gave her. I know some have browbeat you to death, but this video shows the methodical steps you took with her. As for the eye protection, Yui may want to consider a pair of vintage aviator motorcycle goggles. They are really well padded and comfortable. I was amazed at how well they fit and vision was great.
Thanks for sharing this compressed timeline of what was clearly a well planned and executed training program, Bill. What struck me, compared to my experiences working toward my own Private ticket back in '91 were two things: 1) that she was soloing from the moment she started moving, so there would have been much less anxiety over the firs full pattern, unlike with those of us who learned in two/four seaters with an instructor next to us until that first solo pattern, with the empty seat behind us and 180 or so less pounds to haul around the pattern; and 2) she enjoyed a faster than normal repetition of short flights from taxi to wheelie, to approach practice, and on. With that faster turnaround she must have internalized the skills faster: from your video she clearly showed signs of rapidly building that fast, measured control response to the point that it was intuitive, requiring almost no conscious thought. Keeping in constant radio contact gave her immediate constructive input for fast learning. I also noticed in looking at some of your other videos last night that this is actually "second verse" for you, as you went through the same program with your son a coupe of years back. You're an amazing, dedicated and caring guy, Bill; there should be more dads like you in the world.
Thank you for your kind words. Your second point of rapid repetition is a good one. I'm also a cfi and each trip in the pattern takes 6 or more minutes or about 10 per hour. In her case we could easily double that or even better. As she got more comfortable she would take off and land in both directions thus doubling the reps again. She liked to pontificate on the radio after each run. Summarizing her thoughts of what she learned. I also think it was a stress reliever to be able to pause a second and reflect and not have to get right on to go-around, positive rate, flaps up, and so on in the dual training scenario.
@@williamh.scottv438 Pontification: I like to do that too; it's part of what I call "thinking with my mouth open". Narrating the experience helps to internalize and integrate it, pulling out the relevant parts for maximum reuse. Stress reliever? Yes, I'm sure it was that too, especially at the beginning. Reliving and reviewing the experience allows one to (re)gain control of the process, and reset the mind into a state of readiness for the next run. Again, all that is clear in her seemingly effortless control during approaches and flares. So... now this chapter is almost over, you just need more children ;-)
@@julianopificius6910 My oldest is 26. I'm hoping he starts sending some grandbabies this way. My middle is 18 so it'll be a while before he starts. And of course Alina at 14. I don't even want to think about that. But my wife tapped out after Alina. I didn't think I wanted more but now I do. Children are one of the most clear guideposts in life. Once you have them your job is obvious. This episode in Alina's life has brought a lot of attention on me, and a lot of it is very positive and that's nice to hear however, I would be just as happy had my name never been mentioned. When Alina was flying, I think we were turning the corner from Georgia through Tennessee, I called her to ask about engine temperatures and fuel and so forth and she said "thank you. Papa for giving me this opportunity. I don't think many other girls get to do what I'm doing." And then there was silence because I couldn't speak.
@@williamh.scottv438 What are her long term goals for aviation? I didn’t progress beyond VFR in a single engine, and wish I had gone forward. Crop dusting just didn’t seem like a career choice in the 80s.
@@dalesmth1 her focus right now is on going to the Air Force academy. After that she's not so clear what is going to happen. I've also discussed the possibility of the naval academy. She wants to fly something. So she's focusing on good grades so that she'll be accepted to the Air Force academy.
I am watching your videos from France. I think, William, you're a wonderful Daddy. My parents were good, too, but, unfortunately, they didn't make what your are doing to fulfil such interests of mine in the airflying. Go on, your videos are extremely interesting. Oh that being a great pilot was all stick and rudder familiarity! Many a great pilot has been busted by the FAA for lack of knowledge of their regulations and taking liberty to ignore them. 😉
Wow really great to watch Alina looks like a skilled pilot!! As an RC pilot I wish I could really fly looks like a blast, maybe someday...in the meantime I"ll continue fly my plane on the beach ;)
Alina must be a rockstar at her school. The comment Alina Made mid air. Thanking you... means you and her mum have done your jobs right and then some ! Dad of the year award coming up.
I discourage her from talking to her friends about it unless they ask her first. In my sons case, his peers reacted to his accomplishment in a negative way. It was something I didn't see coming.
Entirely the opposite with my sons his Mates were intrigued, though they did rib him for the newspaper article. but only in fun. Anyway keep they videos coming we are all fascinated.
Good Job Alina, i remember when i flow with Cobra Ultralight 15 years ago mostly like this...it is better using helmet to protect your head from wind and safety reason.....have a nice landing

At 32 to 1. I don't think it matters that much but I have used penzoil. I think it's in the yellow gallon jug. I've also used Lucas and Walmart's supertech. However, I think the supertech didn't look so good compared to Lucas and Pennzoil
I have one comment of concern, not about the flying but about ergonomics, Alinas knees. They might with time become damaged by her sitting with them outstretched. Move the pedals back a little or the seat forward, or maybe just use a pillow.
If I may ask, what kind of work do you do to afford this hobby? Aircraft is not cheap, headsets aren't cheap, radios aren't cheap, repairs aren't cheap, that's why I ask! That is awesome training and extremely supportive!

I've survived quite well as a retired forest ranger/firefighter and U.S. Navy veteran. I just see strange words if I read to fast or misspelled words. But I do have to read slower than most. I'm in sought flori...duh. 🙂

What is the deal with letting her fly without eye protection!? I don't mow the lawn, ride my bike or use a power tool without my eye protection. This kinda ruined this for me. Dad is not being responsible. What if a little bee or fly hit her in the eye? Dumb.
Hello Alena. I love your videos and I am so proud of you. Well done & thank you. A wonderful achievement. Ive been building and flying things for over 50 years using my brain and education and sensibility to keep me safe. I deeply despise all the moronic doogooder HSE imbossiles & wannabees that try to impose their loony, know-it-all safety upon me. So I have always minimised my imposition of safety upon others. HOWEVER, with much respect, your legs frighten me. Sorry, long story. 20 years ago, I was asked to sit in the passenger seat (side by side) - tryaxis, trike, microlite fibreglass body aircraft, Rotax 447 prop front. The moron pretending to be a pilot (had a corrupt british CAA licence) unknown back then. He took off and then tried to do an outside loop. While decending, front down, vertically, with engine past full power and RPM out past the redline, towards a 6 feet deep concrete foundation, I saw the end of my life and hoped it would be quick. Now a thought entered my head. I had a friend that did parachute jumps (about 4 to 6 a day) for 3 to 4 days a week for 30 years. I remembered him telling me long ago about a parachutist with total failures, he hit the ground without the chute open. He lived and they say the thing that saved him (and caused the issue probably) was that he was quite drunk. The significance is that being drunk, his body was totally relaxed and simply bounced and flexed a lot on impact. Yes he had lots of broken bones but he recovered. So I thought it was best to stop being frightened and worried and force myself to be relaxed. Not easy obviously. Now there is additional info. The previous owner of this aircraft was a tall military pilot and his father was a lot taller and elderly so he sat passenger P2. So the brit CAA certified for the P2 peddles to be moved a lot forward. So my feet only just touched the peddles at a stretch. So, while diving towards the ground at above VNE, I thought RELAX. I must relax. I actually saw both of my knees sink an inch towards the floor (due to the weight of my lower legs & feet). That sight gave me re-assurance that I was relaxed for impact. My right leg was only broken into 8 pieces and found behind the fuel tank, behind the seat like yours. My left leg was spiralled like a corkscrew (literally) arround the straight metal yoke tube. Exploded into about 150 pieces. The chief surgeon stopped the doctor from counting the pieces at 100 but the 3 teams of surgeons were operating on me for 24 hours and tell me the total was about 150 pieces of shatteted bones. My point is: take it or leave it, but perhaps learn & use it to think for yourself. If the british CAA had any sense they would have cettified the movement of the peddles forward with a caviet that a saussage cussion be available to go under the knees of legs that cant reach the peddles. A simple cussion or my not knowing to be relaxed, would have very much reduced my injuries and the pain & suffering of the last 20 years. I can see your legs are bent in a lot of flights, but sometimes you relax and your legs are straight. Not a problem in the intended, controlled conditions of your videos. But I wish I had this knowledge in my hindsight. "IF" there is a crash imminent, MAYBE don't straighten your limbs. I wish you well and lots of fun flying & making these videos for us
The distance to the pedals can be adjusted by moving the chair. I think some people use blocks or pedal extenders. I tried to move the seat forward but she didn't like it. It also moved the CG forward and made the elevator heavy. So If I want to get her a little closer then I'll need to bring them closer to her. I think of all the possible things that can go wrong and I conclude our first line of protection is making sure things don't go wrong.
I'm just curious, did Alina stop at the Kankakee Il airport? I'd heard mention she did. Anyway, great job Alina, you did well..!! And congrats to William for being a great dad, passing on your knowledge.
