Alistair Cooke: the Cuban Missile crisis (1962) 

'Letter from America by Alistair Cooke' ran from 24 March 1946 to 20 February 2004, making it the longest-running speech radio programme hosted by one individual. This edition, from October 28 1962, covers the Cuban missile crisis which brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.The proximity of Russian nuclear weapons to the USA led to a threat by the USA to bomb them if they weren't removed: the Russian eventually agreed (and America quietly removed its missiles from Turkey). One could draw parallels with the situation in 2022 except that, though Soviet leader Kruschev was a pain in the neck, he was not actually psychotic. Duration 13 minutes 37 seconds.
