Great work here wow! I am in the process of needing to replace my 8HP55 code QCT tranny in my 2015 A4 quattro. couple of shops i asked are grumbling about not being able to make the swap and needing Audi dealer because of serial number programming. Have you seen programming issues as well?
@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech 4 месяца назад
Thanks! So this is not easy. The shop would need a dealer tool called ODIS along with a yearly $4k+ online subscription to allow online coding of the transmission. Or they rent an ebay odis online account for 24 hours & then reprogram your vin to the transmission. either way this will cost north of $2,000 just to do this. I paid $3k for mine, so it costs $3k for my transmission replacement and then it costed me another $3k to reprogram. It will vary and be cheaper for you since I would asssume your car is not a project car like mine

Hey, i have 2014 audi a4 quattro thats wrecked on front right side but engine and transmission still good at 87k miles. I also have a 2014 a4 fwd with 189k mi engine & bad transmission. Would i be able to swap the engine and transmission from the quattro to the fwd a4? Or at least the transmission so i can have a running car?
@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech 6 дней назад
Yes that can work, it's all a simple bolt. Except for the fact you'll probally need to switch the ABS module, e parking brake module, entire interior body wiring harness and a few sensors under the carpet of the front driver seat. You'll also need to spent north of $2,000 to $4,000 to flash the the cars module to understand quattro & flash the transmission to your vehicles vin

Hey MotorHead Tech, Newer A4 B8s have the A/C-Heated Seats-Fan Speed-Air Flow Controller with a "White-Numbers" display. On the other hand, older A4 B8s have a very similar Controller but the display have "Red-Numbers" (Im not referring to the color shown on the MMI screen, but actually on the controller itself) Can you do a video tutorial of how to use OBDEleven (NOT Vagcom) to do a long coding or adaptation in order to upgrade the "Red-Numbers" Controller to the "White-Numbers" Controller? I know that the "Red-Numbers" Controller allows the heated seats to have from 0-to-6 levels of heat, while the "White-Numbers" Controller "only" have 3 levels of heat but I think that there are some people that were able to do the upgrade correctly and able to use all the functions of the controller with no problems (including levels of fan speed, A/C usage, etc). Thank you in advance and congrats on your channel, we are learning a lot about our A4s! 😎👍

Do you mean the control unit itself, part # being 8t1820043ac? I'm a bit confused, you mean you want to change the colors from Red to White via OBDeleven? I do have acces to a fully packaged out 2015 Q5 with heated seats & the LED display for the heated seats that I can test this out on... If what I read from you is correct & I responded correctly then, I had no idea to begin with that changing colors was even an option. I thought that's just how the unit was made in 1 color just like how the base B8 model instument clusters came in red only & to change the color to the black one or the multicolored one with thr main color being black, means that the whole unit has to be changed out (to the navigation instrument cluster)(for example). Maybe send me pictures & videos over towards my instagram direct message so I can better understand & quickly respond, Thanks!

@@MotorHeadTech Hey MotorHead Tech, you are correct, you cannot change the number's colors. What Im trying to say is to swap the old version module/controller (red) with a new version module/controller (white). Yes, I can send some pictures but I dont have Instagram... would you mind sharing your email here?

@@erickvallad4189 technically it should work with no issue, maybe it's just a simple plug and play assuming all the pins match up to the pins on the plugs of the car. What I mean is it will plug & fit perfectly yet I don't know if your center console plugs will have either all the pins or some of the pins inside the plug of the center console to allow it to fully function. I'm pretty sure anyways that it should be a plug & pay but maybe OBD eleven or VAGCOM will probably be needed just to tell the car that you have more functions (thus having them enabled). I could be wrong, but I can test this out by placing the Q5 one in my A4 since my A4 never came with the LCD one. Anyways as you probally saw in my video I did connect the B9 2018 A4 one to my 2013 A4 but it didn't work since the B9 is a completely different platform meaning that I would have to do custom pinning for it. But in your case it should be easy & you shoudn't have any issue, as I've placed many 2009 to 2018 A4 parts, modules, etc with no issue with little to no programing

Have a 2017 A4 with a bad FWD transmission, and have a complete donor with a AWD, easy swap? Plug and play?
@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech 13 дней назад
Based on my project, with modern cars this is an easy bolt on upgrades, except for the fact that: 1. You will need to replace your entire body wiring harness with the donor & pray that it has the same package trim level. Otherwise, you'll need to splice custom wiring to your entire body harness. That means, you will need to remove 95% of your interior. And 2. Pay hefty 5 figures amounts of money to reflash and recode the cars modules. As well as switiching many front wheel drive modules for the correct quattro modules, as well as spending north of $2k flashing the transmission to the correct chassis vin. In my opinion, this is a rabbit hole of a project, it will work, but at what cost (time & money?)

hey i have a 06 audi a4 2.0t with the cvt transmission and i need to replace the motor on it, when does my research on the motors i saw they have two different transmissions the 5 speed auto and the cvt. when replacing the motor does the newer motor have to be from a cvt as well or can it be from rhe 5 speed auto? thank you and love the videos👍

Hey so the engine or motor doesn't matter where it came from, all you have to do is make sure the flywheel it comes with can be paired to your transmission with no problem (if the engine does come with the flywheel) if not you can use your original flywheel found in your old engine
@ohsofilthy6877

@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech Год назад
Yes you'll need to recode the ecu to understand the transmission replacement, the current ECU should be researched to see if the transmission is compatiable (software wise 1st, 2nd would be manually programming/coding the ECU). 3rd is you'll need to flash the TCU transmission control unit (for automatic vehicles to your vehicles body VIN) as the transmission will not function if it's not flashed/recoded. So to summarize your question yes the ECU and the TCM need to be flashed accordingly. The TCM will not work if it has another VIN registered on it (ECU VIN has to match up with the TCU), At least that's what I know for most modern transmissions (excluding manual transmissions).

What about the diffs, does anyone know? Would b8 diff fit in b9? Also, can regular Torsen be swapped for a crown gear? Thanks
@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech 10 месяцев назад
B8 and b9 diffs cannot be interchanged, different ratio outputs and different sizes and different bolt up points and brackets to the car. As for your second question I am not sure. I already did a quattro conversion in my B8 A4 using RS5 sport quattro suspension

With a bolt on yes, with software recoding I would believe it is possible,but it requires lots of money, skills, time and patience

Hey good day...i have a 2014 audi a4 b8 2.0tfsi right hand drive...transmission ID pwz i need a new transmission what can i use?
@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech Год назад
I suppose you have a automatic ZF 6 speed multitronic transmission, I would recommend going with the same transmission type and gear type as before. It's a lot easier that way than for example 6 speed manual swapping it.

@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech Год назад
Your TCU or mechatronics unit is bad, I presume you do not have a Dual clutch (dsg transmission), but under the transmission module it should provide you with text details about the transmission type. What scanning diagnostic tool name are you using?

Can a v6tfsi capable to bolt on a b8.9 2.0 6speed transmission?
@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech Год назад
Yes, almost anything can bolt up to an Audi 6 speed manual transmission. You'll just need to use your existing transmission mount if the transmission is already in your car, setted up. As for the engine, make sure you research the correct engine rubber mounts & brackets you'll need/use.

@@MotorHeadTech sorry last thing axels and such are the same ? It's a quattro and I hear that matters. Then ecu and harness? Or all can be used just need engine harness and ecu
@MotorHeadTech
@MotorHeadTech Год назад
Axles shouldn't be an issue, but you should research them. In my case my front wheel drive a4 front axles are the same as a quattro a4 front axles. As for the ecu & harness it depends on where the donor engine is coming from. For example if you want to rs5 swap your a4, simply use the wiring harness and ecu from the rs5 since the rs5 shares pretty much the same or nearly all the modules as in the a4. Just a reminder none of this will be easy because you'll have to not only do a custom wiring harness and made it to the body wiring harness but you also have to work with fuses and relays and coolant lines, coolant Reservoir, radiator hoses, ac refrigerant lines, starter & starter cables etc. Forgot to mention coding and reprogramming and flashing the car is a big factor

@@MotorHeadTech it's an a5 2.0t I guess doesn't make a difference. This would definitely be an over time thing and it's a 2004 s4 V8 swapping into a 2015 Audi a5 2.0. I found the clutch.. fly wheel. Transmission mounts and motor mounts. Just wanted a complete list before I start ..I can deal/buy wiring over time. And last.
