So glad you liked and appreciated this song. I can't wait to play your reaction for my husband, Peter Beckett. He sang it and wrote it (with JC Crowley) and when the band went to play it live to the record executives, they played a couple of other songs first, then he walked up to the mic and said "Now I'm going to play you our first #1 hit." And he was right.

The 70’s was the best of everything to consume. Music, clothes, furniture, hair and pure class. I’m a 80’s baby btw, now 42yrs old. There’s a refinement that happened in the 70’s, hasn’t happened since.

I'm the same way, but from a different decade. I'm a 90's baby that was raised on the 80's. Both my parents were teenagers in the 70's, so they exposed me to music from the 50's to the 80's.

The lyrics you didn't understand is "all day long, wearing a mask of false bravado" is a way of saying pretending not to miss you even though I do. Not too many groups use such great and educated lyrics like they did back in the 60's-70's-80's
@pedenbeckett1214

Peter wrote that line because he remembered his Shakespeare from his school days at St. Francis of Xavier in Liverpool. In one of The Bard's plays, he uses false bravado to describes the scared soldiers about to face death in battle.

False bravado can also imply the macho type---you cannot hurt me! I am afraid of nothing, nothing! The bull in the arena. Bravura. Brave. Also, must say I greatly enjoyed the reaction video! Britt, you added another piece to the song--- run away emotion. I felt it! Love your voice, btw.

THIS was the type of music that we, as teenagers, listened to every day of the week. it was so wonderful that i stopped listening to much radio in the '80's, and in the '90's i totally stopped listening to the radio and started listening to only pre-'80's stuff because that was the only really good music i knew.

I was born in 76, loved growing up with 80s music ( *real* music, LOL) and listening to my parents' oldies because I had to (I know a *lot* of 50s/60s pop) but I was driven away from popular music early in the 90s too. I loved Nirvana, but hated Pearl Jam, and hated more the 5000 Pearl Jam sound-alike bands that followed them. After Top 40 bands started sucking, I moved between classic rock, punk bands, nerd rock like TMBG, and 90s rockabilly/ psychobilly bands. All of these are fun, but outside classic rock, no-one notices their existence anymore.

I'm almost 70 now and grew up in the seventies. They say most people think the music of their era is the best but the more reactors I watch it seems they like the seventies music as much as I did. The groups and artists of that era sang without auto tune. They could play instruments and put the effort into do great arrangements and songs with meaningful lyrics. Another group that is very similar to Player is the group Ambrosia. Their songs like 'Biggest Part of Me, 'How much I Feel', and 'You're the Only Women' are songs to add to your play list.

It's called talent and hard work. Vocals, harmonies, lyrics, musicianship, song writing, ... A very dated song, but a supreme example of the era. So well put together and performed. I like the way the lead singer continues a note after the harmonies fade. A classic.

Yes a very popular song in its time. And yes the bass player went on to play Ridge on the Bold and the Beautiful. I think I might have even heard it on a commercial or two in recent times. This is the good stuff we listened to growing up in the 70s and 80s and it’s so good that people of today are getting into it ! Music was great back then and people of today are understanding that now and I think it’s great!!

Yep ! Born in 1960 and believe I lived in what has to have been the very peak of American culture. The music, the movies, the TV shows, the cars, very, very few laws to observe, the cops were chill and nobody ever got arrested or went to jail for the petty stuff they harass people about today. All you had to do is just live ever exciting, adventurous minute of your life pretty much carefree. AND !!! It didn't matter if you were in the woods with twenty friends, on the beach or in the city on the strip.... everybody got along and had a great time.

The memory that always comes to mind for me with this song is on the school bus in 6th grade in 77-78 timeframe. It was Belleville, Illinois, and the bus driver was named Dave. He had a one speaker radio he hung from a hook on the dash. Seems I would hear this several times a week that school year while riding home.

An radio staple. I was 16 yrs old, working my 1st job in a grocery store... back then there wasn't "canned" music in some grocery chains... we simply had a stereo receiver that we set to a local station, and the station we had played this incessantly. Years later, my then music obsession found me in audio engineering school, where I learned how these records were made. No Autotune, no computer based recording. Everything went to 2" 24 track tape, edits were destructive, literally cutting recording tape. Effects like echo, delay, reverb were many times committed to tape as the recording was done. Musicians all played at the same time, very little layering, or overdubbing. The musicians and songs were so well rehearsed that the focus was the feel, the vibe, capturing that musical moment. Being in the moment collectively was a palpable sensation... everyone literally KNEW when it happened. The constant forward march of technology stripped away that finely honed craft of finding magical moments. Today, we're still trying to recover from the generic sterility seems to be the new normal.

Same for me and I don't know bout you but I was lucky to have two older siblings by more than a few years and that definitely caused my exposure to 70s music to start at a very early age, thankfully! At ten I was rockn out to Meatloaf, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, Player, Orleans, Styx, Bread, KISS, Little River Band, The Eagles and the list goes on and on! Of course I liked "my own" music to which included Disco because I loved to dance and clearly that's what it was for. I'm so glad I grew up listening to 70s and 80s music and thx even to my parents for putting me on to some great Doo Wop as well!!

The week this debuted on the Canadian charts, the top 5 were You Light Up My Life - Debby Boone, How Deep Is Your Love - The Bee Gees, You Make Lovin' Fun - Fleetwood Mac, Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue - Crystal Gayle, and Baby, What A Big Surprise - Chicago. Top Canadian song at #7 was Dan Hill's Sometimes When We Touch which I think you'd love. There was a lot of good stuff going down in the 70s - I spun all of these tune when I volunteered at my college radio station.
