I wish the lead wasn't so unattractive...in every way

I started to, but thought it was so boring and pretentious, though it is beautiful and Andrew Scott is awesome. They should've adapted one of the books that haven't been adapted.

You guys need to review the BBC radio adaptation with Ian Hart playing Tom Ripley (Hart also played a character in Ripley Underground). BBC adapted all five Ripley novels. There is also Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley on Netflix.

I did read all 5 novels since making this video. I didn't realise there was a bbc audio series. I'm not generally inclined to do audio stuff as there's nothing to show onscreen while we discuss it. I might give them a listen though (currently listening to strangers on a train audiobook as it happens). I'll get round to watching the Netflix series some day.

Plein Soleil (Purple Noon) is by far the best movie in my opinion. That movie is just so beautiful. Alain Delon was perfect as Ripley and I also liked Marie Laforêt as Marge.

You should see Purple Noon for breathtaking visual experience. Much superior eye candy with Alain Delon and the other actors.

The Talented Mr Ripley was the most frightening and disturbing film that I have ever seen. Ripley, what a nice guy, who can find the best excuse for getting rid of anyone who stands in his way. Makes you want to watch your back when you meet anyone. How do we ever know who we can really trust?

Talented Mr Ripley is the best, nothing else comes close

I love Andrew Scott's Ripley. More than the Matt DAmon version. And I also think the American Friend is really good -- at the time I saw it, did not know it was a Ripley adaptation!

Yeah same here. I was looking up Ripley movies and realised that a film I'd watched 6 months earlier (American friend) was one of them and I hadn't even realised it. Weirdly, my memory of the film had become so fuzzy that I had a hard time confirming to myself that I'd really watched it.

You thought "Purple Noon" was slow? Better not check out Andrew Scott's Ripley, then.

I sometimes like slow stuff. I just thought purple noon wasn't very interesting. I suspect I'll like the series as I tend to like Steve zaillian.

Yeah I can tell you guys don't have much sensitivity for art in terms of film lol, especially the one who doesn't like "poetic things" and call European films "boring". Purple Noon is far superior to Talented Mr Ripley IMO, the cinematography and subtlety of it, the fish market scene is my favorite! The close-up of the sting rays felt like foreshadowing, amazing music as well, haven't seen it in almost 20 years but that scene stuck with me, as well as the beautiful colors like deep turquoise and linen whites and Alain Delon and the actress who plays Marge's beautiful eyes and tans. The actor who plays Dickie is great too. Beautiful work of art, not boring at all if you are a visual person and don't need to be taken by the hand to appreciate a film. Alain Delon plays him well as a complete sociopath. Breathtaking experience while the American version is just a typical Hollywood overtelling of a story for a dumb audience. I probably saw the Malkovich one but don't remember it, will watch it again and check out the Wim Wenders one. The one from 2005 looks like it's sh1t but I do love a fun bad movie too, lol.
