I intentionally went long on this ranking because I had a lot I wanted to talk about with the series. So if you want to skip ahead, here are the timecode. WHY I’M IN A WEIRD LOCATION: 00:25 BRIEF SERIES REVIEW: 1:03 #5 - 2:32 #4 - 5:36 #3 - 9:20 #2 - 13:47 #1 - 21:52
As much love as you have for this series, I was wondering, what order should I watch the 5 seasons of Breaking Bad and the 4 seasons of Better Call Saul? Also, should I watch the 2 shows before the upcoming movie? Lastly, will you be doing a ranking of the 4 seasons of Better Call Saul?
The scene where walt realizes skyler gave her boss all the money and the music is going on while hes laughing like a madman is my favorite scene of TV of all time. It was so intense.
That has to be the best 5 minutes of television ever made. At least of what I’ve seen. The sheer range of emotion by each character/actor, the severity of the situation reaching a head, the symbolism and cinematography. Just amazing.
Or the scene in Ozymandias where Walts family reject him and the knife fight etc where we learn how far Walt has fallen and how terrified his family are of him
It's crazy how everything fell apart in the s2 finale just because Skyler asked Walter if he brought his phone to the hospital and then he says, "Which one."
I highly disagree. I think it was the moment Walter killed the two drug dealers in Season 3. If Walter didn't do it, he would have kept a stable relationship with Gus and things probably would have been smooth until the end. Yes, Skyler finding out lead to a bump in his plan but it probably would have ended up the same way it did later: Her money laundering and getting the car wash
@@RM-56 yeah people always say that’s when Walt went full Heisenberg but he was saving his partner out of loyalty. Walt was still a decent guy at that point 🤷♂️
DScubes to be fair, it’s much easier for a show to maintain that getting better every season thing when there’s less seasons. Each of those shows have had 8+ seasons
@@durban55 walking dead is like up and down, season 7-8 were kinda garbo but season 9 was pretty good imo it competes with season 5 for my favorite season
XpertFusion yes, that’s very true, and that’s why breaking bad had only 5 seasons. They stopped it at the exact right point. Game of thrones was incredible up until the 6th season, but after that it dipped in quality a bit
Breaking bad: best show of all time BrBa season 5: best season of all time BrBa episode 514: best episode of all time Breaking bad will never be beaten, hands down.
@@randomrocketsfan3298 I've never seen it, but I am probably going to soon because of how much I've heard about it. I guess I was more talking about the best show I've ever seen, BrBa, but I wrote it objectively. My bad
What's crazy is I JUST started watching the breaking bad and I'm loving season one even though it seems to be everyone's least favorite season. This must mean this show will be absolutely incredible.
Season 2 is underrated, all events are directly and indirectly caused by walter white all leading up to the plane crash which killed many people, janes death, her father's actions, jesse's depression from her death. It was all showcasing how walter was slowly becoming his alter ego and the episode 4 days out was just great bonding with walt and jesse and overall i enjoed season 2 a lot, my ranking is 1. Season 5 Best season, Ozymandias, Felina, Hank and family finding out about Walter, Amazing conclusion 2. Season 4 Gus Fring is by far the best villain of show and great episodes with him and Walt and Jesse 3. Season 2 Great Walt and Jesse episodes, Tuco Salamanca, and showcasing how Walt is becoming Heisenberg 4. Season 1 Great Intro to the world of breaking bad and Walt getting into the meth business 5. Season 3 I didn't like Gale and some episodes were filler like Fly
JmanAA99 I wouldn’t put Season 3 last but otherwise that’s a solid list. Season 3 had phenomenal episodes such as One Minute, Half Measures, Sunset and Full Measure. I also really enjoyed Fly and the overall storyline.
Hate to be this guy but it’s Gale. I think you said Glenn. Regardless, I’ve been looking forward to this video for awhile and it did not disappoint! Thank you Sean!
My Top: 5. Season 3: It is pretty damn good, but there are some stuffs and episodes that I wish were more focus on the point/climax that it's building - 8.3 / 10 4. Season 1: To be only 7 episodes and the start to one of the best series in the history it's perfect, we know the characters, we see his evolution and also they left us in a loophole to know what's going to happen next - 8.7 / 10 3. Season 2: After season 1, this show start to have the pretty damn shape that I love, the adition of Jane as character so crucial in the story I think is the boom, Walter transformation to Heisenberg it's just starting and Jesse trying to correct his path, so exciting and good to see this - 9 / 10 Season 4: This was the best season for me for a while, after some rewatch's it change but this one it's a 10/10, Gustavo Fringe the best villain on the series, again the evolution of the characters is so perfect, the situations for everyone to afront that took everyone to a limit, damn I miss the show. 1. Season 5: Absolutly perfect, this is the best season ever made in history of TV, it starts a little low but in episode 4 it founds his path and it starts to throw up all the stuff that the characters will have to pass. Heisenberg's ending is the best - 11/10
The Gus/Walter dynamic is what sold this to me. Man, that "face-off" episode. That gave me goosebumps. For those who haven't seen it, watch it. It's not worth spoiling. Enjoy the full experience, please!
Season 3 was by far my favorite. Still a great mix or comedy with drama. The stakes were very high but not too high yet. Amazing Jesse and Walt moments also. I’m my opinion you got the best of eve try character in the show during the 3rd season. 👍
Thank you Sean for this video! After ranking BB at 7 in your favourite shows of all time I was a bit mad. But great job for doing a long video describing every season! Really appreciate it and keep going with amazing videos!
The writing on season 4 of this show is the pinnacle of television writing imo. The tension with Gus turning into a suspension filled battle was beautifully written. And that last minute reveal of the flowers gives me goosebumps to this day.
Breaking Bad Season Rankings: #6 - Season 2 #5 - Season 1 #4 - Season 3 #3 - Season 5a #2 - Season 4 #1 - Season 5b Better Call Saul Season Rankings (So far. I'll update it when Season 6 comes out) #5 - Season 2 #4 - Season 1 #3 - Season 4 #2 - Season 3 #1 - Season 5
Great video! Not sure whether I'd swap places for seasons 3 and 5, but otherwise I totally agree with your ranking. Part of the reason why Seasons 1 and 2 are slightly off pacing-wise is the writer's strike happening at the end of '07 (I think season 1 was originally supposed to end with the showdown between Tuco and Hank). For me the second watch-through was a totally different experience. When you're freed up from focusing on what's going to happen next (and realizing you're not supposed to sympathize with Walt ultimately), it has the grim, fatalistic feel of a Greek tragedy, with Walt's fatal flaw being a warped conception of manhood (hence all the allusions to impotence vs. domination). Also made me put Season 4 on top, since as you point out it's a chess game between Walt and Gus, with both of them realizing Jesse is the key to beating the other. Anyways, I dig your channel! I actually grew up down the block from your wife and brother-in-law and remember chatting about the finale with her as it was unfolding. Looking forward to your thoughts on El Camino!
I started watching this video yesterday and finally finished it and wow! I can’t actually believe we have the same exact ranking this is actually amazing!

6: Season 1 - Felt like part of a season instead of a whole one. 5: Season 2 - Loved the buildup. Kinda slowed down after Tuco. 4: Season 3 - The Hank attack scene was the best of the first three seasons. 3: Season 5 Pt. 1 - Didn't love the Lydia stuff. I loved everything else. 2: Season 4: The story with Gus was fantastic. 1: Season 5 Pt. 2: The way it wrapped everything up was perfect. The conflict with Walter/Hank was perfect. And Ozymandias. 1. Season 5 Breaking Bad (10/10) 2. Season 4 Breaking Bad (10/10) 3. Season 3 Better Call Saul (10/10) 4. Season 3 Breaking Bad (10/10) 5. Season 2 Better Call Saul (9.5/10) 6. Season 1 Breaking Bad (9.5/10) 7. Season 2 Breaking Bad (9.5/10) 8. Season 1 Better Call Saul (8.5/10) This show is absolutely my favorite show ever made. It had amazing writing, Brilliant acting, and the directing was phenomenal. If you havent watched this show, go watch it right now. And Better Call Saul is even more of what we love with a completely different tone. I unfortunately have not gotten a chance to see S4 of Better Call Saul, but I will very soon.
@@Zakatkpro It is still really good, but I think everything with Sandpiper Crossing and Gus and Chuck's case, etc. Was more entertaining than the things in S1
5.S1 4.S2 (These two are equal for me) 3.S3 2.S5 1.S4 (These are basically equal too) This shows first few seasons are still great and builds up the show so well. Idk if we’ll ever see a series like this again
1. Season 5 2. Season 4 3. Season 1 4. Season 3 5. Season 2 I know I am in the minority thinking that Seaaon 1 is better than 3, but in this show the set up to witness the transformation of Mr. White to Heisenberg is essentially where the heart of why it was written and why it is so powerful in the 1st place. I believe that 1st season does an excellent job of hooking us in by setting up the premise and introducing us to the main characters that, whether we like them or not, we feel an attachment to. Also, remember, if they didn't get that 1st season right, there would be no other seasons. The final season is perhaps the greatest finale in television history! And, you are right, season 4 is perhaps more suspenseful and awesome, but I feel that last season is satisfying on all levels.
Ok, put this together a while back and spent a little bit tweaking it today. This is an in-depth ranking of the Breaking Bad seasons (maybe I will cover BCS some other time): jokroegermovies.wordpress.com/breaking-bad-season-ranked/
In my honest opinion, season 5 needed a major rewrite. While I agree some of the final episodes were executed well, the rest of the season was....... just there. Felt a lot like Death Note in that regard (those who have seen it will understand). Gus was the ultimate final boss. He was a complex character that some may even route for over Walt. Hell, the gray area of who is "good" and "bad" in their fight was super blurred. I think a lot of the plot elements of the back half of season 5 should have been the focus of the entire season. And Gus being the ultimate antagonist. I never cared for Jack. Random neo-nazis to be super evil so you have to choose Walt as your betting horse per say. Imagine this, Salamanca goes to kill Gus, like the original, but the bomb fails. Gus stands there with his heart pounding. Salamancas face twists into terror as he continues to slam the bell. Then Gus ends him. Jesse teams up with Gus and Walt teams up with Hank and the DEA (Walts indentity still being a secret at this point). The mind games continue until they are lead into a trap where they think they caught Gus. Gus then reveals to Hank that Walt is the mastermind behind the blue meth. This plays back into Gus' ego like how he died in the OG series. Unknowing to Gus, Hank was broadcasting the convo to his team thus condemning Walt. The one the run stuff happens. I have no idea what would happen with Jesse. Maybe just let him retire or something. Mike would either retire or get killed in the fight between walt and gus. Walt comes back, and did what he does to Jacks gang but to Gus. If you really want the Jesse movie to happen. Maybe have Jesse get caught once Gus' stuff is gone through. He gets sent to jail. Tortured by inmates until he escapes. The movie events play out pretty similarly at that point except replace Todd's apartment with maybe Jesse begging Skyler and Walt Jr for help or steal their money like walt owed him. (Assuming he would break out of prison after Walt Jr gets his money). Obviously this is super bare bones, but I would love it way more. Other than some killer scenes, season 5 majorly disappointed me.
If you put all the titles with the episodes with the pink bear in the beginning together it says (seven thirty seven, down, over, ABQ ) which is call sign that the dad forgot to say in the air traffic control tower
I just finished my rewatch of this today, and your video is what made me go back and rewatch before coming to see your ranking. I watched season one and two back to back months ago and then stopped after the first episode of S3. Picked it back up after I saw your vid and watched S3e2 till the end in about 4 days. I agree with the ranking 100% but not sure if I can put either 4 or 5 ahead of the other.
In the past two weeks, I've been watching the first two seasons. I'm starting the third one now, and I'm already loving it. I'm excited to see where the show goes from here.
Actually take your time, breathe it in, think about it in every way - Writing, Scripting, Pacing, Acting, Storytelling, Atmosphere... It is the greatest show ever made. Only The Wire and maybeeee Sopranos come anywhere near it. That moment, when hank has just punched walt, has asserted his dominance in the situation, to him its him standing there, the jock who has always been physically stronger, better, more manly than walt, demands “bring the kids, we’ll talk”. Walt, no, Heisenberg answers back “that... is NOT going to happen”. Hanks face drops, he realises he has caught who has been doing all these things, a truly evil, yet very powerful man. “I dont know who stands infront of me, I dont know who you are anymore”. Walt, answering hank, his own brother in law... “if that is true, if you dont know... who I am” his face changing from sadness, his world falling apart, into realisation that HE HIMSELF IS THE FUCKING MAN “then maybe your best course would be to”, walt no longer, heisenberg now, on his 1st confrontation with the man who has been chasing him the entire time, a man he eats regularly with, a man who is family. His voice deepens, gruff, now dominant, now in control... “Tread... Lightly...”. That 20 seconds for me, so nuanced, so subtle, so absolutely PERFECT... is not only the greatest moment of TV ever, but is the greatest moment ever filmed by a camera. The PERFECT form of media, of film, of art
