The void of knowledge about Eastern European countries is not just an American thing. It is to be found in most western European countries as well. The iron curtain seperated us far too long and is still found in the mindset of far too many people on my side of the pond.

Im Dutch and have visited most European countries. I always say I love all countries in Europe. Every country has something unique and beautiful. Never felt unsafe in any countries in Europe, but I did feel unsafe in African countries.

Why every foreigner visiting Poland wants to go to Warsaw? This is one of the most boring cities here. The only upsides would be the number of shops and food options. So, if you want to shop at Louis Vuitton you would go to Warsaw, but if you want nice architecture, history etc. you would go to places like Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk or maybe some smaller cities.

The thing is that Spain is in the same time zone as the eastern parts of Europe, which is very weird when it comes to daylight, because sun rises so late there, like 7-8 am, while it's like 5-6 in central or eastern Europe. That also means it sets later in the evening.
sickdays and holidays are not the same in Europe. We do not have limit on how many paid sickdays we get, and most employees do get 30days+ holiday per year on top.

Of those 45, 2 is fixed weekend hollydays, and 3 more is fixed non weekend holidays only 6 is moving Holloway. And those have a 2/7 chans to get on a weekend. And of the other base vacation days, 10 of those are also on hollydays. For parental leave there is a simular situation. With 400 days parental leave. Of what 114 is weekend days and 90 is "minimum" days where you get something like 5%of your normal pay. To me it seams like the system is only made so complicated to make it hard to compare to other nations.
That's an interesting bit of information! I remember when I went there I was shocked to see such a tropical tree as a Poinciana (Delonix regia) growing right at the port. I have never seen so many cathedrals in one place, though. A bit much, but there are definitely worse things!
As German, I think all our direct neighbours are wonderful countries whwre you can easily live. Germanies highest attraction is the central position in Europe and the consequently easy accesibility to the most beautiful places around. You can spend a life to discolver the beauties of Germany alone, but you can upgrade that by taking advantage of this unique situation. From Munich, where I live, you take a train to Kopenhagen in 11h, to Amsterdamin 8h, to Straßburg in 4h, to Venice in 7h, to Vienna or Prague less than 4 h and you can go to the alps in less than 1 1/2h. So, within less a day, some time half a day, you cab reach out to your favourite destinatios for sailing, skiing, hiking or justv enjoying thec lifestyle of our neighboring coutnries. With a lot of free time, without a car or airplane, just taking the Bus in front of your home, the world is yours. This attitude of life is not to be outweighted by any means. Just a remark to the GDP figures. Those provide only very limited information without the corresponding Gini-coefficient (distribution of income), something what is not very popular in the USA, for some reason. For Ireland the GDP is very misleading, because the majority of the population does not benefit from the high average income, that remains in the hands of the international corporations, but have finally to pay the prices in their daily life for that. Saying that, being a tax haven (Luxemburg Liechtenstein, Channel Islands, Ireland... Delaware for the USA) is not a desirable form of government.
Good comment. I'm German, originally from Nürnberg, and I live in Switzerland. It's number 1 emigration country (Auswanderungsland) of Germans. I prefer Switzerland over Germany for a number of reasons (including the fact that I have more left over at the end of the month) and better infrastructure, there are lots of lakes for sailing and swimming and cities, and in 45 mins I can go skiing (by car, but that's ok). I also have German friends here and there are lots of German doctors here.

@@MrPickyIt isn't "a myth". I suppose that people who are born there have adapted to it but, for someone used to "normal" days and nights, that can be a little disruptive. I remember my flight from France to NY: we were "following the sun" ... it was sunny in the cabin at 1, 3, 4, 5 ... European AM. Of course, that was just during the flight but I couldn't sleep and the jetlag somewhat ruined my first 2 days on the American Continent.
Do not underestimate the Vatican City. Its museums have got one of the most important and biggest collections in the world. St. Peter is a very massive church with pillars of 70 m circumference. Normally, a visit to the Vatican is a highlight of a trip to Rome. Thanks for your reaction!

Where I live in Spain, it snows in winter and spring and we never reach 40 degrees, maybe the hottest day of the year is 35 degrees. That's not the reason for the break, that's the reason for the long vacation time in summer, however in my autonomous community we don't have that problem. The true reason is that we value the time to prepare a good meal with your family members if it's the case or have a break eating and chatting with your coworkers. It's basically to have a break in which you can actually disconect from work and do something that we value a lot, eating without stress. In Spain, the lunch is the most important meal in the day, so a lot of works have a break from 14:00 to 16:00 for eating. Not everyone does but at least there's practically always one hour from 14:00 to 15:00 or in some places even three from 13:30 to 16:30 but that's too much. Anyways, normal jobs have one hour and a half for eating.

The nap is a rural "tradition" if you worked outdoors it made sense to stop for the hottest hours. The school summer holidays exists because summer is time to harvest and all hands were needed to help so kids were released to work in their parents farms.
In the majority of Europe including Spain people work 40 hours and 5 days per week 45 days in total would make it 9 workweeks free time, i life in the netherlands and including national holidays i got 6 weeks off.
I'm from the Czech Republic. We have 4 weeks of paid holidays by the law. You also have some sick days, but if you are sick, you go to the doctor and he'll give you a certificate of incapacity for work. The first 15 days it's like temporary sickness and it's paid by your employer, if it's longer than 15 days, the goverment pays you and it's about 60-70% of your average salary. Hope it makes sence.

Having lived through the poverty of the 1970s and the not much better in the 1980s I think Irish people don't see where the money enters, and without it we would notice a big difference. Our country can just hand out 800 euro last year for electric and 600 this year. thats pretty handy. We have a very high life expentancy, so despite its problems the health system isn't so bad. The main problem is homelessness, and they really do need to put more money into that, which can be done i'm sure.
23:00 I find it strange how all Americans react to the paid holidays that exist in Europe. We don't even count them as days off. We simply don't work on those days, necessarily, and at the end of the month we receive the same, whether there are holidays or not, whether the month has 28, 30 or 31 days, or the working days are 20, or even 23. Holidays are a something different, we can choose when to take them off (in agreement with the employer, of course)
In Finland on top of the normal salary during the holidays we get the bonus holiday pay which is half of the normal salary. It's a nice bonus to start your vacation or in some cases you get it when you return to work after spending all your money. We also have around 10 paid bank holidays during the year on top of the annual 5 weeks paid holiday. When you turn 50 or 60 that's also paid day off work if it happens during the weekdays.

Hello from Switzerland, well I'm not even close to being a trained expert on Germany, but when it comes to the productivity of Germany (especially in comparison to the USA), do you really think that people who have studied work at the workbenches and production facilities? This is exactly where a big difference to the US comes into play: vocational training, by which I mean several years of training, both practical and theoretical. Such professionals, especially from Germany, Austria and Switzerland (I simply don't know about other nations, so I'll limit myself to these 3), are excellent professionals who know their field of work and everything that has to do with it very well. The result is not only productivity but also quality.
Putting Vatican city last is wild. It's just basically a giant museum with some of the most important artworks in history. It is also the size of a large university campus and the reason why people don't live there is that you don't live on campus if you're not a student or faculty member either. And if you want to visit, there's plenty of hotels, hostels and air bnb's in Rome and you can just take a metro and walk to the Vatican. The cue to get in will take more time then going there.
Vatican is a country and it's not because it's small that it can't be a country. It's a country so the Pope could be the Chief of the State. It's an excuse but at least the Pope has something to boss around; better than to have the Catholic Church wanting to boss Europe: in real democratic countries the State and the Church are separate.

This list is ranked by most livable or whatever, but i would said it's the best for tourist. I live in Denmark, but a lot of counties at the bottom of the list has absolutely beautiful nature and building. I was in Bulgaria and i really loved it.
many people don't understand that before 1989 eastern europe was not willingly communist, this was occupation. Many older people told me that even worse than german. That causes people to think that people there are bad and they are like 3rd world countries because of western propaganda. There is no one to blame, you obviously will say to your people that your enemy is bad but after soviets lost no one changed this, still in western schools almost nothing is told about countries east from germany and this story of 3rd world communists continues. I can say that this story is not true today, some of eastern european countries already catched up with the west and the rest is working on it, firms such as for example google are opening research and development sites, their own businesses are growing (for example some of the biggest players in game industry are from there) and their specialists are working almost everywhere in the world. Eastern europe is great place to visit, for the first time Poland is probably the best choice, they are the biggest eastern country in european union and they are they are most similar to the west. Eastern europe, especially balkans have a lot of different cultures which are worth seeing
Romania is considered one of the richest countries in Europe for a reason or otherwise it wouldn't been invaded so many times throughout history and why it lost a lot of land throughout the centuries. A lot of gold and salt which are the highest in Europe among with agriculture and best biodiversity in Europe at the Danube delta. A lot of geniuses were born in Romania who invented and contributed a lot into society from science to aviation, auto industries and even health sector. Don't forget the real founder of cybernetic was from Romania. We also had the longest history with the first civilization being the Cucuteni-Trypillia in modern day Romania, Moldova and Ukraine which is highly debated among with the founders of sedentary life thanks to advance farming of their time especially practiced by the Dacians. The Dacians were among the most courageous and even feared by the Romans not just because of their falx but because they were highly disciplined. The only disease as one friend of mine put it is betrayal and lack of unity that holds Romania and especially Moldova back since we are one people. I am not sure if some Moldovans would agree but truly sharing a lot in common and Moldova is Romania. And corruption continues because of betrayal of the government which needs to be stopped ASAP.
As a Norwegian, I will to my dying day preach about how wildly underrated the Danish cuisine is. It may not look fancy, but my goodness... They really know their comfort foods there!!! 😋
England has 8 public holidays and always on Mondays (except Xmas, boxing day and new year) spain has 14 and often the public holiday falls on Tuesday and Thursday, so they have something they call meaning the day in the middle between the public holiday and the weekend is off work too. Spanish we are kings of holidays😅, if we don't have them we invent them.
Hi there! As a Spaniard, I can confirm one month of paid summer vacation, and we also have 14 holidays (also paid) throughout the year. Normally stores and shpoping mall close from 14h to 16h but not for "siesta", or maybe yes,😉 but it is because some stores close around 19h-20h. In Spain we have dinner around 21:30 - 10h. We also have public health care and when you get sick, you still get paid, this is long and complicated to explain, but even if you have cancer, the treatment is given by the public health care. I don't know much about the others, but our health care system is one of the best. As for the salary issue, it depends on your job and category. But yes, maybe are lower than in other countries, but maybe our cost of living is also cheaper than in other countries. It would have to be studied. As for the language, I think that in the Nordic countries you will have no problems, in the Netherlands they speak English as a second language. In France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, it depends on each person. In the Vatican City there is a lot of art and history.
I love to see your love for Europe. The diversity is indeed enormous. I am from the Netherlands, but living in Spain, feels like the best of both worlds sometimes. Happy travels!

Corruption is probably one of the most important reasons why countries stay poor or even get poor. So it makes sense to fight corruption especially in one's own country. Go to elections doesn't change much if new nice laws are not enforced.
I'd say every government is corrupt. As if any ruling body would put the needs of the people in front of their own power fantasies. They just act like it while f*cking us all from behind in secret. The only difference is how much they hide it - the countries with "no corruption" literally don't exist in my book they're just countries with well hidden corruption in actuality. If you keep people happy they won't notice everything but power corrupts so imho there isn't a government in any shape or form (democracy, monarchy, dictatorship you name it) without corruption.

Dear Joel, I would say that in Europe all people your age can speak English. So it is no problem for you to travel through Europe. In Scandinavia, Hollywood films are not dubbed into the native language, so everyone there speaks almost perfect English. I live in Munich, which is roughly the same latitude as Seattle. But our weather is much better. In summer it is until 10 p.m. bright and pleasantly warm, so you can sit nicely in the beer garden.Last year I went on vacation to Spain and before that I was in Portugal. You can also have a wonderful time there. However, it can get very hot in midsummer. France is also beautiful, both the north and the south. We owe a lot to the Romans, who left many traces in Europe. Most of them can of course be seen in Italy. So, If you come to Europe, look for hostels and in Germany for youth hostels (= Jugendherberge), they are not that expensive.
Not to mention the excellent atmospheric conditions, magnificent landscape and coastline, history and culture, excellent food and drink... I must add that in Portugal foreign films are also not dubbed. The Portuguese have always had this tendency to respect the original. The fact of appreciating and preserving culture in its own territory and in the territory of others shows exactly the type of freedom it offers, (it was the first country to abolish slavery and was also the first to end the death penalty) and in Deep down, what we all want is to be free to make choices and live with their consequences. To conclude, I will say that only experience, as something practical, conscious and familiar and therefore different for everyone, can show what is appropriate.
Regarding the fact that French people are good at english, I would say that is true among more and more young people but not for the entire population.
As they say " the grass always seems greener somewhere else ". Switzerland has beautiful scenery ,yet there is / was a big heroin problem in Zurich. The UK has an acute housing shortage. There are pros and cons to most countries.
Let's be realistic though. Nowhere in Europe is without it's problems but you're better off in 90% of them than you are anywhere in the USA. Healthcare, paid leave, gun laws, good food, good education

Hi from Ireland. Having travelled extensively I have come to the conclusion that my own country, Ireland, is The Best Place on the planet. A little biased, I know😊, but truly it is full of charm, blending the ancient with the new seamlessly. The scenery is amazing as is the food and culture. Galway, (the city of the tribes) is unique and a city for young people. You can do a whole route called the wild Atlantic way, from Donegal, in the North right down the west coast, all the way to Cork n the south, and experience some of the most magical scenery and culture that you will ever meet. Or you can do The Ancient East route taking you through ancient sites like New Grange, older than the pyramids and Stone Henge or Glendalough, an ancient monastic ruins of a city with magnificent scenery. Visit The Skelligs, where Star Wars was filmed, or do The game of Thrones studio tour. Great hostels with great adventure centres are all over the country. Sure, like every other country you will come across bad things, but overall, Ireland is a country not to be missed. Cead Mile Failte {a hundred thousand welcomes) if you decide to come.

More in common than with other nations on the planet earth... As it is stated in the English Wikipedia "sometime used as a synonym" but unfortunately this is actually a "false" synonym. It is written like this in the English language because some English/American writers/scholars probably put it there because Iceland at that time was under the Kingdom of Denmark (or may even go back to the Kalmar Union). STILL it doesn't make Iceland Scandinavian or part of Scandinavia. The language is North Germanic and out of that it is West-Nordic. None Scandinavian countries (DK/NK/SE) claims that Iceland or the language is Scandinavian 😉 Even the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish Wikipedia sites never talk about Scandinavian languages, it is all Nordic!
@@MrPicky There isn't one universal correct definition for Scandinavia. You can look up other sources as well, like the dictionary. It isn't a "false synonym". "Is Iceland considered part of Scandinavia? Geographically, there are 3 Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Sweden, and Norway). Culturally, there are 6 Scandinavian countries Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland and The Faroe Islands" (Source: Scandinaviastandard) So it depends what you mean / where are you coming from. No definition is more or less correct than another.
As an American i can say one thing for sure All Eastern European countries ( except the pro Russia ones ) are 30 times safer than the western ones And Hungary, Romania and Poland are the most beautiful ones in the East
The irony that Lithuania has world's best internet, but my Lithuanian friend has the worst internet of my friend group, constantly loses connection. While I blame this rather on the coverage as he's living a bit in the rural parts instead of within urban.
there are ALOT of ways to get internet. from plugin routers, proper routers, wired telephone based routers, mobile data plans, just to name a few. so depending on the combination of choices it can be bad my sister brought 5g router over to our rural area and it was slower than the dial up. meanwhile mobile data from a phone plan using different provider can easily deliver internet to whole family at the same time.
Island is definitely not the best country. The weather sucks, the winter is too dark, it has a terrible food selection in super markets and if you are not careful you will marry a cousin.
Although I was born in the UK I've spent more than half my life in Cyprus and France, a short time in Italy, visited other European countries, some in Eastern Europe. I've settled in France.
Czech here, try our beer sometimes :) Happy we made it so high in the list, I love living here, people are usually more laid back when it comes to work/life balance and they are fun to drink with.
I would say that half of the beer is drunk by tourists. Me and the people around me drink beer only twice a year, at Christmas and Easter with roast duck
While I currently live in Australia I was born in Finland, and I think the number 6 on this list is accurate or couple of spots too low. I would definitely recommend that you visit Finland. It is expensive but worth the visit. Unless you specifically want to see the northern lights I would recommend to visit in late June to early August timeframe. It is a beautiful country. A lot of forests, lakes (about 300,000), beautiful archipelago and what I miss the most, the white nights in the summer time when sun sets around 11 pm and rises at 2 am and there is a twilight in between, but it never gets dark. So Jps, if you want to know more, reply to this and we'll sort out a way of communication.
But don't stay too long in Helsinki, 'cos it's not the best city in Finland. You need to go somewhere in the middle of the country to see real Finland!
I watched this the other day. The order is all over the place, but it's subjective so whatever. As a Hungarian who hates the current government with every fiber of my being, I have to say that the 20 percent inflation he mentioned, while self-inflicted, is a one-off and not 'every year', like he said. Big difference. Anyway, if you take this video as a rando's opinion, it's fine. But I encourage you to do your own research. Because some of the other countries he had an unreasonably high opinion in my view.
My girlfriend is from Hungary (from close to Szeged), I'm German, and we live in Switzerland and she likes it much better than her home country (as far as income and life-quality goes and I like it better than Germany). She even has made some Hungarian friends here! Szép napot!
Must be so frustrating having him as the leader for any thinking person. He's just a nasty thug. I would like to visit there someday when you get a better leadership. Poland did it, and hopefully you'll be able to do it before too much longer.
Ireland is amazing!!! You DEFINITELY need to visit - Go to Kerry and Galway! Lisbon is my favourite European city, personally. I'd live there if I could.

@@liosscip True! Taxes on alcohol and work is too high on here so we dont have "Bar culture" coz too expensive to drink in bars and clubs.. And this lead to people drink 0,5l vodka before clubs and bars :D
About Bulgaria: "While its payed 59 weeks payed maternity leave is the highest in Europe..." Sweden has 68 weeks of payed parental leave, split between the parents, no matter their gender. If there's only one parent, they get all of it themselves.
Wait, he continues to say Finland has one of the best parental leave policies in the world? I'm sure that's true, Finland is an absolutely amazing country that, besides having the best school system in the world also actually eradicated homelessness, is very similar to the other Nordic countries in terms of welfare... but what happened to "Bulgaria has the best maternity leave"? Belarusian here. We definately have a billion of issues but it's actually one of the safest countries to be in. Nobody will rob you in the middle of the street like it happens in Paris, women are safe walking by themselves even at night time, we don't have any religious tention, people are extremely helpful, we have many restaurants, bars, a lot of people spreak English, nature and counryside is amazing. But ok I guess...
As mentioned, the border between Europe and Asia is indeed merely political or rather cultural, it used to be possible to go by train from Duisburg at the Rhine in Germany to Bejing in China, probably difficult nowadays, that trip of about three(?) weeks would give one a good idea of Eurasia as a whole I believe
Dutchie here. At the company I work for I get 30 days paid holiday p.a. plus 3 extra "old age" days. I'm going on 60 ;-) Last year I wasn't able to take all my allocated leave for the year, so now I have 50 plus days to try and find time for. LOL! The problem is that there's no one able to fill in for me when I'm not in the office. Whatever doesn't get done will be waiting for me. That's the pressure that stops me from taking my leave, not because I don't have the days available.
@@tonyrodd6348 Thank you, Tony. I guess it's a combination of things, one of the most important being early exposure to the language. All foreign movies and TV programmes, etc. have subtitles instead of being dubbed. English is taught at school from a young age. The Dutch are also well travelled. So, all in all, the Dutch are very familiar with how English sounds and how it is spoken with intonation and rhythm. On top of that the Dutch aren't shy to try. Generally speaking, of course.

Hi from The Netherlands. I've lived in other countries in Europe and outside of Europe, even in Texas/US for a while, but I'm so so happy to live in my own country now. I really had the opportunity to compare and in my humble opinion, there's just no better country to live than The Netherlands (yeah, also a little subjective maybe). I'm very proud of my country and I love it; our society, our directness, humor, the economy, our healthcare system, public transport, rights that our people have, our liberal way of thinking and acting, ... You seem like a very open minded and aware guy, unlike a lot of people from the US. I think you would be so much happier here, what keeps you from moving to Europe? Everybody speaks English here; you can live and work here without any problem!
I would personally rank Ireland very high too. Even though it had some troubles - like dreadful, to some point disfunctional police force, youngster drug gangs, or increasingly inaccessible housing, its simply great country with great people.
I'm not the biggest fan of the Garda Siochana, but their problems are rather benign compared to the police in many countries. Unlike the UK, for example, they don't go around arresting people for telling jokes.
@@jamesxenophon9505 I can't speak about British Police, my experience is limited to seeing them on the streets during my two vacation times in the UK. In Ireland, I once witnessed a drugged and drunk youngster attempting to steel neighbor's car and called Garda. "Yes, it's been already reported, sure we're sending there a patrol!" said friendly policewoman on the phone. The act of steeling, due to the state of the youngster (bottle of liquor accompanied him whole time), took more than 3 hours (!) and after one last unsuccessful attempt to smash window with his bottle, the owner woke up and finally "chased" him away, by which I mean the young criminal super slowly walked away. Garda never ever came. And it wasn't any troublesome neighborhood, but new and nice housing estate. Then you start to ask around and hear things like "They never come. I once caught a thieve in my house, got threatened by legal action and let him go, because Garda wouldn't come anyway", or "we got our house robbed, called the Garda [to do investigation], then called again, but they only promised and ha never come, so we gave up". For me, it is beyond any understanding that in any reasonably developed country would be a police force that doesn't bother to attend the scene. There are of course more funny stories, like me being stoped by a Garda woman on O'Connell St. driving after midnight - "Have you been drinking?" "No" "OK, take care, bye!". This is an Irish breath test 😀. Small steeling is in Irish cities common, I.e. I've never seen anywhere in the world so many bike remnants chained to poles like in Ireland, in fact I haven't seen any anywhere else. Also, there were so many small fights after pubs were closed (due to being closed at the same given time). Irish specific was child crime, where you had kids under 15 armed both with confidence of untouchability and often real weapons (I don't know if it's still the case after many years). So I think small and even little bigger crime in Ireland is super under-reported and the country is ranked way higher in safety index then what's the real situation. I live in a country ranked like 5-7 and it puts smile on my face, seeing Ireland ranked 4. It just feels wong. But don't get me wrong, I think overall it's still reasonably safe country, especially day-time Ireland could be surely in top 20 countries.
@@oakld You know what, you have a good point. I was once attacked by teenagers and when I went to the Garda Siochana they told me there wasn't much they could do if they're under 18! I guess my point was that having an overzealous or over-aggressive police force like in the US or the UK is a greater danger to society. But yes, the Garda Siochana are lazy as fuck and useless.
I live in Belgium at the luxemburgish and german border. I work in Luxemburg. My wife comes from Switzerland. My best friends lifes in Germany, Luxemburg, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. My wife and I have traveled to several countries in Europe. I am very interested in European cultures, economies of individual countries, social systems and quality of life...This ranking is nonsense... A small addition: 40 vacation days are 2 months vacation because weekends are not counted. And in most countries, if a public holiday falls on a weekend, you get a compensatory day as a vacation day.
Tax reasons? Lol It's clear he knows nothing about Italian history. Also, the Vatican Museums (54 galleries comprised of 1400 rooms) are the second most-visited museum complex in the world after the Louvre, so there's plenty of interesting stuff to see there if you're not a moron.
I'd suggest something if I may? I'm from Croatia and depending on what you're looking for in Europe, you might want to visit Czech, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Greece, and our country when it comes to Eastern Europe. Why? We have more historical places, we're more peaceful but still a lot of bloody history to explore. I myself have visited all these countries except Poland. Been to Italy, France, Spain, and UK. Netherlands is one of the places I'd like to visit next. I see you've been to Croatia, as a kid, but nevertheless. Visiting Warsaw is a really great idea. And Vienna. You'll learn a lot about our culture. If you're studying sociology and/or philosophy these are great places to visit, too. Cheers!
I have funny story about Iceland. I once met an Icelandic girl at a party. She had her boyfriend with her. I jokingly said "did you make sure you're not related before going on a date with him?" and she (most seriously) replied: yes, ofc. There's an app for that"
Interesting video, Europe is really something special. I do feel like Serbia deserved better than number 38, but then again we have Vatican at number 50 an Ireland at number 2 which is also a bit weird. Still it was nice to hear about some of the countries that I dont know much about.

On the other hand there are candidates like China which changed their form of government several times in the course of history, but were nevertheless states throughout. Therefore, my candidate here would be China with 3000 years of continuous history - but the modern state of China was of course only founded in 1949.
Ive lived in Ireland all my life and i have travelled to numerous countries around the world. Ive never been to a country I'd prefer to live in than Ireland. However if you do visit , make sure you go outside of dublin as the countryside is amazing , even though i have lived in dublin all my life.
There are 50 states in the US. One can almost say that each state is like a different country that has areas that are safer than others. I lived in New Hamphire for 22 years and never had any safety issues, When I got my dogI never locked the doors again sot hat my neighbours could let the dog out in case I was going to be late getting home. I used to travel a lot on business. One time when my ride to the airport picked me up I just pulled the door to close it, but it didn't completely. That night the wind blew the door open. When my nexxt door neighbours saw it they waited to see if I was coming out of the house but of course never did. When they saw the door was still open in the evening they just came over and closed it. My to go place for fun was Boston and would be walking in the streets at 2:00 o'clock in the morning without encountering any problems. The same for other major cities, inluding New York where I'd be out untill 5 am or so. Sure, the US may have higher crime rates than many/most/all countries in Western Europe, but not every place is bad. Tons of places that are as safe or safer. Also, when visiting a major city in any country one needs to use common sense when going out.
You should visit Denmark. It's really safe, the people are friendly and we have great food and drink and if you have an accident our hospitals will take care of you free of charge. Do come during spring or summer though - it's a bit gloomy and cold otherwise.
I'm Lithuanian, and the placement on the list is about right, but the comment about older generation is a bit idiotic. Country has huge history, very old language and one of most beautiful ladies in the continent

I am from England but my Grandparents on my Dads side came from Estonia in the Baltics, next to Russia it is a nice country to visit small country but easy to get across in a car, plus they have a lot of forest spaces you can just escape in and the Capitol Tallinn is nice full of history
