2017 was by far the most iconic victory here. People had written him off as too old. He wasn't showing great results at other tournaments, then suddenly... The man is back! You can just see on his face how much that win meant to him.
Definitely. It also marked a decisive turn in his rivalry with Rafa as Federer beat him in a slam final outside of Wimbledon and ended up beating him in 6 of their last 7 matches.
Against his all time greatest opponent, in 5 sets... and after such a long tough period without a grand slam win. 2017 was a great year for Federer fans.
10 time champion, goat Novak was injured at that time. Thats only time since 2010. that Federer was able to win AO. That is clear from looking at past and future years. But never mind. Win is win.
@@danisaveryniceguy6437 Nope. Novak was injured in 2017. and his comeback full form was in wimbledon 2018. Thats why Federer won AO 2017, wimb 2017. and AO 2018. Little weird no slams for 5 years and then suddenly while Djokovic was injured? Novak eventualy finished 2018. as no1, and won AO in all upcoming years. No trace of Federer anymore since Djokovic came back, as before.
@ONKL yeah and even if he goes for singles which I highly doubt he'll only be a shadow of his even 38 year old self, which I guess is better than nothing at all
The final two were epic! Both been challenged, and both in. Especially the 5th AO title, he was off the court for 6 months, then played three 5 sets matches, and then Nadal. As a fan, it was the best Roger's match!
@@stevennorris7181 federer has more wins on hard… , and if nadal got to higher rounds at grass events, their h2h would be much closer since they’ve only played 4 times on grass. Nadal is winning their h2h mainly because of clay (14-2) because of course he is the King of clay.
Sure one could say he only went up against Samprass once, but that once makes the difference in slams.they had 3 years together. Had 14 slam winner Samprass and 8 slam winner Agassi been in this generation he would be a huge problem for there slam count. While Roger was just climbing up the ranks he was up against killers like Safin Leyton rafter phillupouses Moya Rio's Gonzalez, Grojon Nalbandian Roddick and more. The combined record of the people in his early career surpasses the guys of that the people in his later career, if you take out the big 3 names. Nadal Djoker fed. We had people like Leyton who was going in 5 sets to tie breaker almost every single time with Samprass. Quite frankly the people who say that the players in this generation are better are the same people who think the songs of 2010s are better than the songs of the 90's because they currently have more views on RU-vid.
This video has made me realize just how special that 2017 + the start of 2018 run was. Seeing a matured Federer stand at the top of the world of tennis once again after so many years after many believed we'd never see that sight again, judging from his facial expressions including the man himself... what a fantastic time that was. It feels so bittersweet now that he's retired.
2008 wimbeldon final between Nadal and Federer. Was the first match I watched on the TV live. The rain delays were so interesting at the time. I was a Federer fan before this, to my knowledge, but I don't remember any of the other matches that predate this one.
When after 18 yrs you realize, that 2004 was the only leap year when FedEx won at Melbourne. Those years when Federer had the long curly hair, and you could see the Nike swoosh between the curls
Just shows success at the top level isn't always guaranteed. At conclusion of 2010 final, did anyone think it world take 7 years to win the next one? Each major should be celebrated as if it's the last. Even at 2018 Australia I wasn't confident he'd win another
Yeah, but I think he lost motivation a bit, because it was always his goal to set the Grand Slam record. That was always what he was striving towards, and then he did it. He didn't need to work as hard at the Slams anymore.
Nothing will ever beat 2017 Aus Open as a Federer fan. Federer was out for 6 months after injury sidelined him in the second half of 2016, most were once again expecting a Djokovic vs Murray final for the umpteenth time, then Federer defeats his arch rival Nadal in a major for the first time since 2007 Wimbledon, sweetest thing is that it was in a major final too and ironically it was his NEO backhand that beat Nadal 😃
Was never into tennis when he was in his prime, no disrespect intended but the era of Fed, Nadal and Novak made me realise that the most satisfied and entertained fans are tennis fans, not only do you have the era of the greatest, you have the era of the 3 greatest.
No other GS win will match his 2017 AO win. Coming back from break, defeating Nadal in 5 sets. It was unreal. As a Fed fan you almost couldnt believe it

My most memorable game of RF in AO was against Safin in SF 2005. RF was on his prime, winning 3 out of 4 slams in 2004 but Safin was unstoppable when he could calm his emotions. I thought the rivalry will be between RF Safin and Roddick in 2000s but then Nadal showed up and the only player who has cheat code to beat RF in regular basis
Algún Australian Open/US Open más hubiese ganado seguro.
Safin, baghdatis, gonzales, Murray, nadal, cilic... Five out of these six have won a combined 6 slams.. Weak era champ... Started winning oz in 2004 , ended with 6. Joker won first in 08 and now has 9 ozs. Fed won 1st wimbledon in 03 and endedwith 8 wimbledons. Jojer won 1st wimbledon in 2011 and has 7 and is still favorite there... Rg fed won in 2010 and ended with one.. Joker won rg in 2015 and has 2 and still has an outside chance.. Uso fed won in 04 and ended with five.. Jojer won uso in 2012 and has 3 and still playing.. So at rg, wim and oz Joker has a better record than fed ,won more or almost same but played less than fed.. Uso has been a better territory for fed... Betterh2h for jojer and more slams than fed and has played less tennis than fed... So who's better ??? Easy pickings
@@SHVideografie I wrote safin baghdatis Murray Nadal cilic.. And then I said 5 out of these have combined have 6 slams.. Now if you had a tennis sense, you would've known these are players who lost oz final to fed... Ok nevermind... Now don't add nadals tally and say its 27 ish... I said 5 out of these 6.. Hehe.. Read carefully and then cumment
