I bought Alpha phonics last year. I don’t love it but didn’t want to stop so we are pushing through it. Thank you for sharing about all the other resources like the readers. I started my 9 year old on cursive this year. I think I’ll start my 7 year old on cursive too. Thanks again!!

I have not used Alpha phonics, but I have been making use of the free resources on your blog. The math I had for my daughter really was not working so I have tried Ray's New Primary Arithmetic. It's going so much better. Now I think I will use some of the resources for both manuscript and cursive. Thanks so much for making all of this available.

Big fan ! I’m a Canadian father and got hold of Sam Blumenfeld’s Alpha Phonics and taught all three of our sons how to read fluently before they started grade1. I also used phonogram flash cards from the Riggs Institute. I’ve since gotten each of my sons their own copies of Alpha Phonics so they can teach their kids. We had the same horrible “Whole Language” problem in our schools that the U.S. had. Apparently many U.S. and Canadian teachers get together sometimes and share bad ideas. Alpha Phonics and Phonogram flash cards….great combination. .

Do you think this bloomenfields book could help my 3rd, 5th, 7th, and high functioning 9th grader, even though the older 2 higher in age??

@@lisacacciatore3121 Yes, I do. Blumenfeld’s Alpha Phonics could help anybody, if they have a great desire to learn to become fluent readers. The Riggs Institute Phonogram flash cards would work well with the book. My children had the desire to figure out what those markings (letters) in books represented and what knowledge they could give. And I was perfectly willing to give my children the gift of the written English language and a world full of books.

@@thewaytojannah4392 I'm so glad its helping. On my site I have grammar Land and primary language lessons those are great grammar resources for younger kids, do you have older children? I'm working on something special to make available to everyone since we hit 1k subscribers, hopefully I finish it soon lol.

Starting Alpha Phonics with my 5 year old today. I think she knows the sounds, she is just being stubborn... So taking away pictures and just working with letters.

She might know them but doesn’t have that automatic alphabet fluency. Some activities to try prior to starting Alpha Phonics are: -Having them write the string of alphabet characters from memory daily to get faster. -Arranging alphabet letter tiles in abc order daily -You pointing to any letter and they say the sound -You dictate a sound and they write down the letter -You give them a letter and they tell you the sound If they can do all this with automaticity, then they are ready for phonic lessons.

What’s the difference between the Alpha Phonics Workbook and the other Alpha Phonics Book? Is the workbook a better version?

There is just one workbook/manual in different bindings. There are also small readers just for practice.

Hello just purchased and received my alphaphonics book. I need looking over the material. My question is how long should in spend on each lesson?. Example should I work on lesson 1 for a whole week then move on to lesson 2.

Sophia Garcia I highly recommend reading the instruction manual. It will give you detailed instructions. You go through the lessons once but the manual explains what to do every lesson with reading, teaching, writing etc

Sophia Garcia there are two books the manual and the workbook. The manual gives step by step directions for each lesson.

Sorry I'm late. I actually do a lesson for a week with my daughter. She was only 4 when we started and I wanted her to really get it. She has a hard time focusing so it's a way for me to know that she is getting it. We're on lesson 17 I think now. She's picking it up quicker now tho.

@@ourhouse thank you. I have them printed and sleeved in a binder. I'm waiting for the workbook to come in the mail. I only have used the book. I didn't know they had a workbook and readers. I wish I had known. I've been using the book since last summer.

What is the difference between AlphaPhonics and Word Mastery? They look very similar to me. I have printed off Word Mastery but have not used it much yet. Nerdymommyof4.com

Word Mastery starts a little bit more advanced. Alpha phonics starts with 2 letter blends and Word Mastery jumps in more with 3 letter words. Alpha phonics has more resources too like the accompanied readers and flashcards. I don't know of anything else for word mastery except the blend phonics stories.
