Pedals can totally transform your guitar sound! In this video I will explain to you what I know about slapback delay and how I like to use it in the studio and in a live situation. I'm using a telecaster, an mxr carbon copy, a vibrolux reverb, and an m9 pedal.

Delays are one of the most complex guitar effects. I use different types, depending on what I'm recording and the sound I want to achieve. I alternate, too, analogue and digital, depending on the tracks. I don't use slapback often, but your video inspired me and I think I'll try to record something with that setting in the next few days.

I use 60ms, very tight, very close, with around 50% gain/volume of it so it mimics a room ambient (and I dont do reverb because a reverb tail can get so, if not too, long).
@travisraab
@travisraab Год назад
you should try 61ms. life changer

Been using a subtle slap back for years. Imo a subtle delay just gives you a massive tone as compared to just a typical amp spring reverb. Besides 99% of players use reverb why not stand out from the crowd with your own tone!

I love slapback it's super useful. I have an original boss DD2, it's really bright but it does a really great job of almost doubling the signal. Do you think you'll ever venture into digital amps? I'd love to hear your take on a Line 6 helix.

Whoa another dd2 owner! I gotta check out this pedal. Digital amp? Not unless I'm getting paid (maybe not even then)

Only have a digital delay, really great for big stuff, long decays, but I really want that blues slap-back from it and it simply won't give me. Going to buy a analog one

If a delay pedal is between the guitar and amp, then changing amp channels from clean to overdriven can lead to the effect suddenly appearing louder. That's why it's better to put delay (and any other modulation) pedals in the effects loop. For this reason, I would not buy an amp that had no loop.
@travisraab

Whatever works for you!
@ParaBellum2024

@@keithclark486 OK, let me put it differently. Set up the clean channel and overdrive channel to the same volume, with a delay pedal between the guitar and amp, but switched off for now. Switching between the channels, the volume stays the same. Now, on the _clean_ channel, set the delay pedal to your liking. Changing to the overdrive channel, the amp volume stays the same, but the delay effect becomes more pronounced in the mix. Placing the delay pedal in the loop overcomes this problem.

@@keithclark486 Any 2 channel amp, any guitar and any pedal. It's well known amongst guitar players. That's why we're advised to put time-based pedals in the effects loop.
