Hi from Minnesota, newish knitter (less than one year). Working on 2 pairs of socks and a sweater now. I love using 9" circulars after starting with magic loop.
Hello from Swansea, Illinois. This is my first time seeing your podcast and I subscribed to it.❤❤❤ My very first pair of socks was knitted on DPN’s now I knit my socks on 9” circular needles which is easier for me. I do use DPN’s for the heel flap and the toe decreases.I have tried to use magic loop but couldn’t get the hang of it. I am knitting a pair of socks again and crocheting a baby blanket, at present then I will start knitting a pullover.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Do you cast on socks with 9” circulars or dpns? I always feel like 9” stretch my sock out a lot in the beginning so I like to cast on to dpns.
Hello Hatty. I hadn’t thought about making socks because they look so difficult. I enjoyed your explanation about how you make them and seeing the variety of patterns that you used. Someday I may give it a try. Currently I’m waiting for my needles to be delivered and I’m hoping that I can start on the Be Brave Shawl. Have a great week 😊
This was perfect timing! I’m trying to knit my own first pair of fingering weight socks following Summer Lee’s vanilla sock pattern. This is my 5th or 6th attempt 😅 I have a really hard time adjusting to the tiny needles but am determined! The yarn is from Ritual Dyes and I’m hoping to submit it to the Sacred Sheep MAL. Great video! I love how the cardigan is turning out!
What a great episode of the best knitting podcast of all time! Love the sock talk! What they say about guys with big feet? They need big skeins to knit a pair of socks for themselves! Hatty, do you ever make your own patterns? Has anyone here tried it?
Enjoyed your podcast. It was very interesting to see your thoughts on sock knitting. I am attempting my first sweater for me. I chose the Vesper by Knitty McPurly. It’s a free pattern. If it goes well I can see many more sweaters in my future.
I know toe up 2 at a time magic loop socks. I use the Kiss Lips heel most of the time with the Turkish co. I recently found Laurie's twisted bo. It doesn't flair and is stretchy.
Solid dpns user. Magic loop drives me nuts, plus I would get huge ladders when switching needles. With dpns ladders are easier to overcome. Working on a pair of knee high socks for nephew using Purl Souls Very Long Sock pattern and adapting to my gauge and his measurements.
Enjoyed you talk about your socks, I am an avid sock knitter too, I’m trying this year to branch out a bit away from just vanilla,, I really like the stripe mosaic sock pattern, is there a pattern and a name for it please, I have lots of self striping yarn and am always looking for some patterns for it, thanks. I much prefer magic loop, I’ll use the 9 inch circulars for color work, I keep trying dpn,s but I just can’t get to a place where I’m comfortable with them. I am working on summer Lee,s color work monthly cuff club, A Musselburgh hat, The coorie poncho, and several socks.
Thanks for watching! I think the socks you’re talking about were the Contrast Blast socks by Stephen West. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/contrast-blast-socks
I am determined to master socks in 2025. I tried twice and ended up frogging them. But I just purchased the Kate Atherley book so I can measure my foot better. I can see myself really getting in to socks as I master the fit.
@@hattyknitsalong I hope so too. I am self taught. No one in my family or friends knit so I am learning on my own. I love knitting so I am determined to get my skills up so I can complete challenging knits! 😊🧶
