No worries. I just transferred all my goof ups to here so no one else had to make them. LOL

👏 I just received a Pi Big Muff kit. This is awesome in terms of tweaking the tone stack! I used the Tone Stack Calculator extensively when I built a few amps. It’s a great tool, but remember what looks great on paper may not sound the way you expect it to.

@@erikvincent5846 general mod options like they were presented in this series for example. This format of showing the mods and how they sound is very handy.

The online version of the tone stack calculator also asks for an R in (probably what is 1k here). How would I determine this resistance from the schematic in order to be able to find values for mods eventually? Thank you for this very interesting content!

This might sound dumb but I'm new to modding pedals, would it be possible to do a Marshall style TMB tone stack or a Baxandall tone stack in place of the stock tone control? I know this would require drilling holes etc but I'd be curious if this is even worth doing. I just think it'd be cool to make a fuzz a bit more preamp like haha

What kit would allow me to have switchable diodes, transistors etc? Im envisioning a drive pedal where I have a ton of options from fuzz to light distortion. I would probably always place my eq pedal after to really sculpt the post drive tone. But maybe some kind of variable pre eq inside the pedal.

If you want a BMP circuit, have a look at Aion's Halo variant, it provides a circuit to toggle between two different sets of diodes. Otherwise, it's actually a really simple mod to DIY. Anywhere you have a pair of clipping diodes in a circuit, you can just remove those diodes and solder the start and end pads out to a switch, and wire up as many diode variants as the switch is capable of (even use a rotary switch if you're feeling adventurous). That way you can take a pedal kit you like, and add the diode switching options to it, rather than settling for whatever's on the market. Edit: GuitarPCB's BMP has an optional mod for adding a 3-band EQ to the circuit also

For distortion, the Tasmanian Devil has switchable clipping methods. As of our PCB kits, we typically set them up with the idea in mind of socketing things and switching out components. The Siberian in this video (and in the past two) is a socketed Big Muff Pi, which we also offer in our store. The build doc goes over the swappable options.

what if i were to use a 100nf capacitor or even 1uf for C1 - im curious as to how much i could make the high end of the tone knob more focused on mids and not treble - i must also add that i am on a mac so i cannot download the tool that you used for changing these values

Another option would be to use an online version, which you can find here: www.diyguitarpedals.com.au/tonestack/bigmuff.htm As of just changing C1 to 100nF, that does create a hump in frequency (as opposed to scoop), with the hump at around 200 Hz. One way I'd get a mud-scooping tone stack is to keep 39K for R1 and 22K for R2, but change C1 to 4.7nF and increase C2 to 47nF. This puts the scoop at about 450 Hz. With C2 at 33nF, that puts the scoop at 500 Hz, but its a less pronounced scoop. With C2 at 22nF, that puts the scoop at about 650 Hz, but even less pronounced of a scoop.

@@erikvincent5846 thanks! - just to update i decided to just swap around the capcitors so C1 is at 10nf and C2 is at 4nf which seems to be pretty good at boosting the 1k response :3

Does this mod apply to the big muff pi green russian with moskow mod also
@erikvincent5846
@erikvincent5846 3 года назад
Should be applicable as the moscow mod still utilizes the same tone-stack for the most part.
