I purchased this for my 6 y.o. grandson for Christmas because he expressed interest in space, then we spent time together this Saturday putting it together and I felt I let him down when we were only able to explore tree tops. Your video helped me see everything I did wrong lol and hopefully next Saturday we can advance to moon explorers so I can redeem myself! Thanks again and please keep the videos coming for newbies, our journey is just getting started and, clearly, I'm gonna need a better telescope and usage instructions 😀.

It’s not a bad beginner, budget friendly telescope. Great for seeing the moon . Saturn and Jupiter can also be seen, but not with a lot of detail. Although you can clearly see Saturns rings , Jupiter’s 4 moons are also visible with this telescope. I would recommend buying it and if you enjoy using this telescope then you will definitely want to upgrade to something better, but if you find you have no time or don’t have patience to use it, don’t bother wasting money on a more expensive telescope.

Holy shit when I set up my telescope the instructions said to put the Barlow in no wonder I’ve haven’t been able to see anything. Thank you so much now I’m ready to see the comet

Thank you for this indepth instruction and review. I bought a couple of these cheaply on the Goodwill online auction site with no knowledge about them. I only knew that these 70mm travel scopes were "fun" to just have while camping or traveling. I figured I could line the neighborhood kids up for views of the moon. Now that I have some idea, I'll take them out of their storage bags and try setting them up at home (they appear to be complete).

Thank you for a very concise explanation of this telescope and its accessories. I recently received this telescope and now have a better understanding of it's use, like throw out the 3x lens! When using the 25mm eyepiece during the day I cannot clearly focus on objects (a tree) that is approximately a 1/4 mile away. I noticed a threaded ring above the inserted eyepiece. Do I need to adjust this? If so, how?

Thank you. I picked this up for an astronomy 101 course, and was very frustrated with it. Like others mentioned the included booklet isn't very helpful. This video gave me a better idea of what I should be looking for, maybe I'll actually get to see the stars and planets I need to visualize for lab work.

Thanks! My gsyker 80mm didn't come with manual or carrying bag. I was trying to align finder scope first . Mine unscrews from the back side. Is that what u mean by focusing it? The front barrel also turns on fs.

I applaud your constant reminder of seemingly stupid things things like make sure the caps are off. As someone that has worked in the IT field, you would be gobsmacked at the number of "fixes" that were done by plugging in a monitor or turning on the monitor.

From this video it appears the smaller end of the finder scope that twists should either have a hole in it, or come off? Mine is a solid black piece that twists and definitely we are not able to see through it. It appears from the video the twisting is what should focus it so it doesn’t seem like it should come off. Help?

I bought this telescope last year because #1, I really enjoy gazing at the stars and planets, and #2, because I am a huge impulse buyer, and it was on sale haha. In all seriousness, when I put it together the first-time last year, I got so dang frustrated because I don't know the first thing about telescopes. I packed it all back up and was going to sell it on FB. Well, with all the current rave about the green comet, I wanted to be able to get a better look at it rather than just by the naked eye because I am almost certain I will not be around in 50,000 years to see it again. I watched a few short videos others had posted on this scope before I found yours, and I have to say, I wish I would have seen this last year! Your explanations and hands-on demonstrations on what each part does/can do, was extremely helpful. Especially since you used regular, non-astronomically smart people terms that benefited people more like myself. So, I just wanted to commend you on a job well done and suggest that you go into teaching; you certainly have a knack for instructing.

Considering your review, I'm willing to return this one and get something a little bit better. What begginers telescope would you recommend? What would you suggest to get for a beginner that wants to see more than the moon and stars

I got the 70mm scope from Amazon to use for the April eclipse. I went with it because it A. was really inexpensive and it's my first scope, and B. was about the same price as a similar specced scope that had a non-removeable sun filter so I went with this for more flexibility. I have some Baader film on order that I'll 3D print a holder for both the main telescope and the finder scope. I do have a question. What would give me better images of the sun? Should I make a holder for the entire 4" opening of the scope, or should I put the solar filter over the smaller hole in the dust cover? Also, when packing this scope back into the carry bag, should I take the finder scope off the telescope? (i.e. will leaving it on potentially damage the scope body and/or finder scope with the tripod in the bag?)

I recommend everyone look up information on telescopes from channels like this for the very budget end, and fabulous channels like ed ting,. This is what makes youtube invaluable. A good tip for people having trouble focussing.... try to focus on something during the day in the distance.... also set the finderscope this way (you willneed the prism to see the image the correct way up)

Hi Wich refractor would you choose... Carson RP 200 80mm Celestron astromaster 80mm Gsyker 80mm or 90mm Is There Thay Much différence between 400 ,500 mm focal lenght. Thank you Jake, Canada

Well I was hoping for this scope to be better but my kids should enjoy it. Looking at the moon as a kid with a telescope made me more curious about OuterSpace.

Can't tell if I'm just stupid or missing something (this is my first telescope): In this video you look through your finderscope and say you can see light, but on mine the part which you look through in this video is just an opaque piece of plastic (not a cover). Is this a defect or just a different finderscope?

Just wondering what the next size up would be? I'd like to see rings on Saturn, etc. I too wouldn't have been able to get this together without a video! The others aren't really as helpful. Thank you! Clear Skies!

Allan, we have the Gskyer 70400-60350 telescope. We followed your instructions and have all the pieces. We can see clearly through each piece on its own but when we put it together we can see nothing but blurry light through any eye piece. We have been trying to look at the moon . We have the 10mm and the 25 mm. We have read some bad reviews on Amazon, after watching your video we wanted to email you to see if you knew what might help. Even though we are sure they aren’t, it looks like the lens is dirty or damaged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We have a very interested young astronomer. Thanks so much

So glad I found you! My husband got me a Gskyer telescope for Christmas and I have struggled to get it set up. Last night I tried to see Jupiter, since it is at it's closest distance to the Earth. What a comedy of errors. So I told myself to fine some clear instructions on getting this thing ready for tonight. And now I know what to do with the Barlow lens. Didn't know what that was for so now I won't bother with it. Thank you, Allan, for your clear instructions. By the way: the set up sheet enclosed with the telescope is English on one side and Chinese on the other 😄 Going to check out some more of your videos.

This one didn't do much checked out to see if I'm using it wrong, but find your review to be accurate. It's just meh. I could see the moon enough to see the details a bit but nothing amazing. Important! The 80mm version has a standard finder scope mount and I took some pretty good celestial photographs with a ZWO ASI585 planetary camera and a Sky Watcher AZ GTI go to mount, using it. Then, my friend talked me out of it and I gave it away.
