The Chinese flag should have reflected more on Traditional Chinese Culture instead it’s the Koreans who have helped to keep the Traditional Chinese Culture. However, it’s the Koreans who had dropped the Han Chinese Written System. Otherwise the Koreans could have been more Chinese than the Han Chinese themselves as Koreans also shares many Chinese festivals.

Thanks, that was a terrific explanation of many of the flag's symbolic layers. This vid also serves as a summary of the concepts underlying Mamamoo's 4 Season 4 Color series of four albums and the project's theme song Paint Me. I know there's a lot to talk about but I think you should have mentioned that the lines are from the I Ching. Many people would recognize them but those who don't might think they were random patterns and even those who know they're from the I Ching might not remember what they stand for (like me). Great job overall - this is essential info about Korean culture. 😊

@almostpasth72
@almostpasth72 3 года назад
Thanks for this very informative video. One of the reasons for me to learn Korean besides not needing to use subtitles... is the fact that the idea of yin/yang is also prevalent in the very core of the Korean language. The existence of 있어요 and 없어요 means a total different concept to western languages. In German and English for example you can only “negate” existence e.g. “XY is or XY is not” which gives only “existence/is” a value. In Korean there is the duality of existence and non-existence expressed with two different words thus giving both equal value. I think that alone is reason enough to study Korean.

That was a beautiful explanation of the Korean flag! If I may add, the tail ends of the yin and yang align diagonally and not horizontally. The diagonal line that the yin & yang tail ends start from is the line connecting the top-left corner to the bottom-right corner of the flag. It is incorrect to start the tail ends from a horizontal line going through the middle of the flag.

The symbols at the four corners of the Korean flag represent the hope that the Avatar will return, master the four elements, restore balance, and establish peace between North Korea and South Korea. Joking aside, the trigram in the upper right side of the Korean flag meaning "water" is displayed in the opening credits of Avatar: The Last Airbender as a man bends water. I also think the "sky" trigram is displayed too, but it's stylized and given a tail.
