I’m doing my scholarship now there are so many applicants but I do my interview soon. Loved your video on this process it’s helped me not worry as much and just wait instead of badgering my background investigator. I’m prior military and really want this to be my next journey.
Beyond Artists I agree! We have anywhere from 34-36 weeks of training. There are some departments in the US that have way less than that and it boggles my mind!!
Hey so I’m planning to go to the academy I do know Exercising is a must I been training my body to pass the 1.5 mile run. Will the treadmill help me or you recommend regular running 4 days a week
Hey lina i like your videos" they're very helpful! I recently passed my written and fitness test" and today i took my background interview i was completely honest" but about the phycological exam what exactly is that thanks!
Mark Ramirez hey mark! how’s the process coming along for you? I’m assuming you’ve already done the psych portion where you pretty much sit with a psychologist and they ask you a bunch of questions to gauge where you are mentally in regards to the potential stressors of this job.
BusinessForGod how is setup where I’m located is once you complete your interview testing etc. you have to wait for your investigation close out (90 days)once that’s finished you’ll be notified about your academy date. During this period you are not working for the police department however you just have to keep your nose clean. So in the meantime you have to find a job or stay at home and wait for your email or phone call from your investigator
Tyrone Drain oh, ok. I think it’s a little different where I’m at. Here, once you’ve passed the physical and written exam you go into your background interview, then you do your suitability test (process I’m at now). I believe once my results come back from my suitability test the agency will send me a conditional offer letter of employment contingent on me passing the polygraph, medical, and drug test. From there I can be employed with the agency as long as it take for the academy to have a start date.
You have to be atleast 21 to become a police officer, so you have some time. Don't get in trouble, do a ride along with the department you think you want to work for in the future, get/stay in shape. Reach out to a recruiter to see what advice they can give you.
I don't know of any study guides to prepare but some of the police departments where I'm from have practice exams/questions on their websites. I suggest looking at where you plan on applying and checking out their websites--they usually have a lot of information. Good luck!
Do you think its best to get apply and get certified first or should I try to apply for entry jobs first and get lucky to be selected and then they will send me after
I'm not sure how the process is like where you live so I can't say which way is the best. Where I'm from, you apply, go through the academy and get certified while getting paid a salary. try to find a department that will pay you to go through the academy!
Preston Nguyen congrats on making it so far! Unfortunately, there’s not much to do in preparation for the psych interview/exam. Just be truthful! Good luck!!
That's awesome! Yeah most departments have a shorter academy but where I'm from they like to make sure we have a little bit more training but I would've been just fine with a shorter academy haha good luck!
@@josiahwhite5577 11 weeks? Wow! I've heard of regional basic academies doing that. Our department does 34 weeks of basic academy then we have 4 stages with an FTO. The length of a stage depends on how well you're able to handle the job.
@@WhatLCSays Yeah, and I gotta say I probably agree with yall's mentality more. But eh, oh well, at least the county I'm applying with has roughly 20 weeks of material for their academy. No clue how long our FTO will be. Good luck to ya with your FTO portions! And policing in general.
Yes. A lot of police acadamies are hosted in Community colleges nationwide, in what's called BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) courses and anyone can sign up. The difference is you would have to pay for it because it's a college course. You will be in there with police recruits and in the same classes but you just wont be a part of a Sponsored Department.
Did my polygraph 2 days ago and received a conditional letter prior to that. However, I felt like my polygraph wasn’t good at all. I was soooooooo nervous and shaking. I don’t know why because I did not lie at all. I am waiting on the results not. I am hoping for the best.
What LC Says I passed the polygraph but that department is unfortunately not moving forward. I heard that they did not get an academy seat. I am in background with 3 others. One already contacted my references and did my home and neighborhood visit last Saturday
I think getting paid to go to the academy is more beneficial for you since you've already been hired by the department you'll be working for so you're getting paid to go through training AND you're guaranteed a job when you graduate. Paying for the academy doesn't always guarantee that you'll be hired from what i understand, but I'm not 100% positive. For what it's worth, I would never pay to put myself through an academy.
It was't too bad! The test itself was ~2 hrs long--there were questions that dealt with memory recall, reading comprehension, math, language and bio data/personality.
Who’s the fool that thumbs down this video. They should go get a life. Keep your head up. Then again during the posting of this comment you past already.
