Actually, from what I heard, cops eat donuts because back then Donut Shops were the only shops open at night, so cops just started eating them. At least that is what I heard.
I teach the 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Course in New York City. One of the things I talk about is what to do when pulled over by a cop. I like that phrase, "It's funny that the colors red, white and blue symbolize freedom (hesitates), until they're flashing behind you." One of my favorite RU-vidr's. Thanks for having this channel!
Strangely though where I live it's common to see ambulances flash white and red, with occasional blue also being added, still not freedom, means someone's about to go bankrupt and become a debt slave lol
Your explanation why officers where uniforms is incorrect. The correct answer is, to attract badge bunnies. I remembered this from one of your previous videos.
Maybe back in like early 2000s. But I think the tables have turned and it seems like it's more for the holster hares now. I don't know if it's just me, but I noticed that the majority of the audience here are actually underage MALE fans... 😅
Why do Québec police wear camo pants? It's their version of prostesting a bill that reduces public service worker pay in the province. EMS, Fire, Police, Bus Drivers for the city, Works and Transportation, etc.
Hey officer 401. I love your content and your mostly sarcastic answers. Keep up the great work and thank you for being a first responder and protecting us
Officer 401 I absolutely love your videos, it has helped me tremendously on my journey to becoming a police officer, hope you keep up the good work and keep the videos coming!! Stay safe brother
401 I hope that you at least get to spend some time relaxing on Monday. I love some of these questions. Why do cops breathe? Duh because they will die if they don't? Some of these are hilarious. Stay safe this weekend, Much hope that you have a quiet weekend with the holiday.
I just wanted to add that not only do you put out good content, I love the fact that you actually interact with your subscribers and I think that says a lot... We really appreciate it!!
I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and diagnosed with mild autism when I was 15 years old it's great to see others who have somewhat of an understanding of what others with ADD or ADHD are going through I don't know if you will ever reply to this because obviously you're very busy but seriously man you proved that others like me can do whatever we want to do!
I am currently working on applying for the Police Academy and upon approval I will be sent to train in March of this coming year. Your videos and wisdom are truly something to aspire to 401. I hope I can be half the cop you are someday.
Awesome video officer401. Can’t wait for the next one. It’s awesome having you on RU-vid. Almost half a million subs, you should have more than that with how awesome you are and the great quality content. I’ll share more of your vids. Have a safe weekend bro
Hey 401. Thank you for the content! I'm trying to become a police officer and watching your videos gives me a good idea as to what I'm gonna expect. Keep up the awesome work!
The question regarding the color of police lights is a really good question. As 401 said, it varies from state to state. Some states have Red/White for LE and save blue for fire, some states are blue/white for police with red for fire, and so forth. Not only is a mixture of blue and red pretty a.f., but blue is more visible at night and red is more visible during the day. It’s good to have the combo for safety
I love this so much, some of your answers 😂😂 i am a full support of the boys in blue and say yall have reasons for what yall do. But i apreciate you doing these videos, i didnt know some of this.
Hey Officer401, I am an American citizen currently going to school in Canada for a Law Enforcement Studies diploma. After I graduate next Summer I was planning on moving back to the US to pursue a career in policing closer to my family. How well do you think a Canadian diploma would transfer over to US departments when a recruiter sees it on my application? Obviously the Canadian law courses won't be as useful, but I am also learning many different communication skills, note taking/report writing skills, as well as some hands on training (advanced defensive driving, take downs, hand cuffing, etc). Thanks so much for making such informative videos, hope you have a safe weekend!
Like most things there is no one answer. I'm sure some agencies will look at it as a great thing and others a negative thing. Sometimes it's better to teach someone who is a "blank slate" than someone who has had completely different training. I'm sure the experience will be good for you as long as you can adapt to the changes once you move back.
Great audio! Why do police seem to pull people over for simple violations and block the lane of traffic instead of asking the person to pull into a close parking lot or side street to finish the ticket? Of course, after confirming it is safe to do so. Thanks for your videos!!
Lol 401 I love you so much man your such a funny and interesting character what would our world do without you not to mention your vids are extremely educational
Great video, as usual... AND nice upgrade on the Audio! Okay, just a word about audio... And yes, it is better with the new mic'... Just a note to watch your volume and "sensitivity"... The audio's clean and all, so good job so far. BUT there are a lot of people who make the early assumption that "louder is better" and it's worth pointing out that your new mic' actually brought CLEANER sound, not necessarily louder. There's a touch of "echo" at this level, too... It's only a touch, so I wouldn't worry. That's just the acoustic quality in that room... (lolz) In any case, just keep an eye on that, and know that with "software updates" it may need tuning from time to time. One point on the colors of cars... AND I know, you don't "consciously" pay any attention to car colors... A few years back, there was a study on the judges of boxing matches, and with consistency, the fighter in RED got higher performance marks than the Fighter in BLUE... Other colors tended to create statistical trends, as well, brighter colors and sometimes psychologically symbolic colors, (like black for example) on trunks, gloves, and gear (pads) often led to the fighter outperforming his or her opponent in the "points system"... The "experts" reasoned that psychological biases toward colors for hazardous origins probably played a decided "UNconscious" advantage toward the wearer(s) of those colors... I wonder if Police ever get any kind of training (or discussion) on matters around that... It's dubious, so I'm just guessing not. BUT a car's paint-job is often considerably more sophisticated and symbolic than just a color or two, so it's worth pointing out that if something attracts attention (like a bright red, or a flames design) it tends to bear more scrutiny by nature... AND along with more scrutiny, there's just a tendency for more "ticket-worthy" notes on the mind of the officer... Nobody "drives perfectly" even in front of the police... SO more attention drawn might well simply equate to more ticket-worthy offenses NOTICED... as opposed to the vehicles that "blend in better". Thoughts? ;o)
Honestly out of the 100+ times I've been pulled over ice never noticed a officer frisking my car but.... The way you explained it does make sense w the print/DNA! I'll have to pay better attention next time stopped guess!? Lol. Good stuff 401!
Old bumper sticker: "DARE to keep cops off donuts". My stepdaughter, married to a State Trooper who was also a DARE officer for a while, loved that sticker. I think she still has one.
Im not gonna lie I used to have really bad opinions about cops. But cop youtubers like officer 401 and mike the cop have really helped me see police in a different light
The answer for the pushing their head down thing actually makes a lot of sense. I rarely bonk my head, but I guess your hand-eye coordination is reduced a bit when your hands are cuffed behind you.
Hey Officer401! Police officers around the province of Québec used to wear camo pants as part of pressure tactics for the negociation of their new working contract and union agreement and all that stuff... it lasted for quite a while, and was highly controversial for most people who didn't really know what was happening... and the media of course.
I love all of your videos. I try to watch at 5 least every day (actually I start with one and then an hour goes by...) But I can't find the rest of these videos. Where's P through Z? Keep up the good work and stay safe.
The red lights thing... In our patrol cars there's a red overhead light, that's there to preserve your night vision but more importantly your able to see inside your car while oncoming traffic is not in anyway confused by your interior lighting.
Quebec police officers are wearing non uniform pants, usually bright ones, as a form of protest over municipal pension plans. Please come visit Canada! We have great sites, things to do and a variety of different cultural places to explore. You really need to go to Nova Scotia and try a donair, one bite and you will be hooked.
My favorite would be a black patrol car with all blue lights... and as far as the "lights on the ground" im thinkin that they mean the "runners" that are on the sides of patrol cars.
Do you pull people over solely for window tint? Do you know officers who do? I want to get my tint darker than legal limit but I don’t want to rack up a bunch of tickets for it. (Not limo tint, about 10%)
Reno. I feel you. I live in Florida and absolutely could not live without a decent amount of tint on my cars windows. I can also appreciate how it it may seem like such a trivial thing to get pulled over for however you have to see it from an officer safety perspective. LEOs need to be able to see inside a vehicle during a traffic stop. Not just to check for contraband open containers of alcohol etc that may be left out in plain view but most importantly to ensure they are not caught off guard by a hidden suspect who may be armed and waiting to ambush the officer/s once they are within range. Traffic stop deaths are a reoccurring problem. Dark tint would give certain criminal elements in society even more of an advantage on a traffic stop. You may be a law abiding citizen. Problem is officers don;t know you from Jack. They are also not provided with mind reading powers. At least not yet. ;) lol. Take care Reno!
EDDIE LEAL I do know that side of the defense, though it is 100% legal to have your back windows tinted as dark as you want. You can even legally cover them if you want to. (only for large SUVs and trucks, I drive a truck). And in which case, cops pull you over from behind. I can legally have my windows at 0% and there's no way anyone can see through, especially if they are walking up from the rear. Besides, anytime I get pulled over, I roll all the windows down, turn the vehicle off and keep my hands on the steering wheel to make the officer as comfortable as possible. I understand where you're coming from, it just doesn't make sense to me why 90% of the sheriff and city patrol cars around my area have limo tint and Im not allowed to go below 32%. I just want it to block the sun and have some privacy. I hate driving around in a fish bowl.
Makes sense. Cops do have the tint dark. My theory is because our government wants protect their assets/privacy as much a possible.Just like you want your privacy. Also, If you cant's see them inside thier car then you can't shoot them. ;) That and maybe be tempted by whats inside and steal thier stuff. Which tends to happen from time to time. lol! At least that's their logic. Can't see who is in the back either. Paranoid? Maybe. But it doesn't mean no one is out to get them right? ;)
Hey @Officer401 - Could you by any chance make a video about window tints and talk about general laws/regulations and even Georgia-specific laws/regulations on window tints? If so, thank you!!
2:55 I think they meant red lights inside the car. I think it's so cops don't strain their eyes at night and they can easily adjust their vision when they get out. It's also harder for others to see the the police car from outside when there's a red light on rather than a bright white light
Canadian officers wore camo pants as a way to rebel against the department since there were a lot of issues with it at the time. They wore regular camo, pink camo, acu, etc since it was prohibited by the department. There is an article somewhere out there...
I've only been pulled over once for an illegal u-turn & I remember they dramatically sent about 3 cars, all officers involved were literally standing in the back of my car while they went through my info. 1 of em recognized me from high school.
Here in Quebec our cops AND ems wears camo pants because they were protesting against provincial pension reforms that affected over 65 000 fire fighters, police officers and municipal white and blue collar workers
I have a question. If you are unkowningly booked speeding by a speed camera and then pulled over by a police car a little further down the road and recive an on the spot fine for speeding. Would you have to pay a speeding fine for both the speed camera and from the police officer that pulled you over. P.S I didnt come up with this question a mate asked me.
Depends on the quality of evidence the speed camera captured. If it can prove your vehicle was speeding *and* you were the driver and there are no technical problems with the ticket itself then you have to pay it.
killer if you commit the crime twice you can. It's one charge *per violation.* The scenario presented is essentially the same as if you were stopped twice for speeding in one day, minus the deterrent effect with the first one. Some things the second cop won't ticket you again for, like a light being out if you haven't had a reasonable chance to replace it yet. However, if your first stop for the light was two weeks ago you're definitely getting a ticket. And that one won't be getting dismissed when you show that you've rectified the issue. If you could only ever be charged once for speeding in your whole life the deterrent factor of traffic enforcement would quickly disappear. If someone was pulled over by police for speeding *and* the location the officer observed the person speeding was at the speed camera, then only one ticket would need to be payed or the government would risk losing *both* fines due to double jeopardy.
Michael Carnes how come the first half of your comment sounds like you're disagreeing but the opposite in the second half? Double Jeopardy is what I was talking about. If it is the same crime at the same TIME. Why would they be asking about crimes at a different time?
I remember when I got pulled over on a very dark side road and was blinded when the light turned on. Didn't get a ticket but didn't drive until the burn image of the lights finally went away 5 minutes after the stop lol
Here (and many places in Europe) its blue for emergency vehicles. If a cop car is showing red behind you he means for you to pull over. So blue=make way blue+red=pull over.
Like this video...on the quota one...I saw joke that read something like this...When a LEO was asked if he had a quota, the LEO replied that he met his quota...so he could write as many citations he wants
I >think< the red lights on floor question is about road flares. (5 mins in google, that was only thing I could find referenced). Here in GA I don't see it, but when living in WI and IN I saw cops using red circular lights instead of cones or flares. My guess is the asker is wondering what the flares are for, which the reason should be obvious. To highlight an accident or crime scene, so passerby's don't accidentally drive over evidence, or hit someone. (Or for non road location, so no one stumbles in and contaminates the scene).
In Michigan, only Law Enforcement can have blue lights. FireTrucks and Ambulances only have Red, White & amber. Construction, department of transportation, security can only have amber.
Here is one for ya, I've noticed lately that pretty much all cops, when on a traffic stop, turn their wheels to the left (to the road). Why is that? I was always taught to turn the wheel to the curb/ side of road so that if you get hit you don't get shoved into traffic.
new mic sounds good. following recent events could you make a video describing the standard procedure after an officer has been involved in a shooting? nobody seems to understand paid leave is standard.
I'm Canadian. Sûreté du Québec officers are unionized and were complaining about the lack of progress on their collective bargaining agreement. They wore camo pants as a protest, since police are obviously not allowed to strike.
In Serbia, blue and red light are reserved for escort of the highest rank. For example if president of another country would come in visit, there will be police car with blue and red light in front of it. Regular police car only have blue lights.
